Back with another infantry-heavy urban battle! This time set in a snowy and cold Stalingrad. The infantry combat was absolutely brutal and I'd love to do more urban close quarter battles in the future! Enjoy.
Note: All my maps and battles are modified/not part of the original game and does not represent the finished product. Everything you see is yours to experience if you so wish to create it. My version of the game contains no third-party content. Some videos/battles may contain footage of edited damage models and gun ranges. Everything is created in the GEM game engine's editor, allowing me to make fully custom battle simulations. - เกม

yeah the ragdoll physics are super real it feels like, has a realistic motion but not too limp to where they are just flopping around
@@molstad182 The animations are actually mocap, impressive still but the GEM engine doesn’t have the capacity for ragdolls, unfortunately for all of us.

I gotta say, These Gates of Hell battles are better than Men of War and Totaler Krieg ones, which are already great in themselves. The graphic details and AI thinking are so much better in this.

Hi Diplex! Nice video as usual. I was wondering if you could make a video about the battle of Bir Hakeim. It is a battle that took place in North Africa during WW2. During that battle, 3000 French foreign legionnaires held off 36000 Axis soldiers for three weeks. Despite the fire power of the Italian and German units (panzers, artillery, close air support...), the French inflicted vast casualties to the attacking Axis units. This battle allowed the British to retreat and reorganize for the battle of El Alamein.
I think it would make a good video.

Here a few things to improve your Stalingrad scenario.
1.) One Company of the 506 Flame-thrower Battalion was transported into the Stalingrad on October 27, 1942. Flamethrower tank units had standing orders to "use flamethrower tanks only for their intended purpose, in no case turning them into tanks on the frontline ." the majorly of this unit at Stalingrad was equipped with KV-8 models and did not go direct action unit mid-November.
2.) Order from Major General Krylov (chief of staff of the 62nd Army) on 10.11.42, all units operating on the Volga River's right bank must be dressed in winter uniform.
3.) The institution of military commissar introduced at the beginning of the Great Patriotic War (July 16, 1941) existed until Oct. 9, 1942. At that time, the one-man command was permanently established in the Army and Navy. The term "commissar" was abolished at the company and regiment level; the pompolit officer was replaced with the zampolit (deputy for political matters). Although no longer known by the original "commissar" title, political officers were retained by all the Soviet Armed Forces until the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991.

One suggestion (if possible), because the soviets used trains extensively to transport troops, I think it would be very cool if the soviets arrived by train instead of by truck, if you cant do that, that's fine, but great video man!

Does anyone know how to play GOH in editor mode? Can't find anything ended with _ed.exe in game file like the previous game.
In the official discord and one of the posts they made about an update a while back they said that they are only letting youtubers access the editor. I imagine once GOH is properly released the editor will be there. Im in the same boat as you man, can't wait to get a hold of it
@@chunderbandit8720 I asked the same question on the Steam Discussion board, the answer I got was the editor will only be available upon release. There seems to be a long waiting time. For me, the editor is more fun than the game itself.

I think you need to script the defender retreat with faster pace to the next position.. Its gonna make the next line more stromger with additional man.
This game is more fun to watch than play to me. I wish there was a more comprehensive guide to using the editor so I could make my own battles like this.
Interesting to note that there were very few urban environments in MOWAS 2. But seeing this video gives me hope that GOH will be different. I could imagine a Stalingrad campaign with the assets shown. A linked series of scenarios of all the major battles in the Stalingrad campaign.

Chuikov employed "sturm teams" of up to twelve machine-gunners with lots of grenades. That's how they re-captured buildings from the Germans.
They should add a Flag bearer for the soviets !

All stages of the Battle of Stalingrad were very bloody.
Losses on both sides turned out to be enormous.
The Soviet Union lost over 1.1 million people killed.
On the part of Nazi troops, the total losses are estimated at 1.5 million people, of which German make up about 900 thousand people, the rest are the loss of satellites.
Data on the number of prisoners also vary, but in the average their number approaches 100 thousand people.
Equipment losses were also significant. The Wehrmacht lost about 2,000 tanks and assault guns, 10,000 guns and mortars, 3,000 aircraft, 70,000 vehicles.

This new GEM editor looks like it's easier to use and I hope it is. I'd love to see more maps from people that have good ideas, but are too intimidated by the current GEM editor to make maps.

Hey, another Soviet victory. So that is, what, 2 out of 7? And, once again, all it took was overwhelming numbers.
I feel like the whole "human wave tactic" thing is just a buzzword with no real meaning. Any attack in human history can be described as this. Same goes for the "frontal assault" thing. You call any attack that you don't like (because you don't like those who were attacking or because it was not successful) a human wave attack or a frontal assault and that's it, you seemingly explained why the attackers were stupid and failed. Just say it since almost no one knows that all attacks need groups of people, usually consist of "waves" (reserve can be called a second wave if you want to play with words) and is kinda frontal anyway after enemy soldiers turn to your direction. Look, it even worked on Bernhard - he did not think of the real point behind these figures of speech and just assumed that soviet tactic IRL was bad.
I have finished reading soviet guide to squad leaders and soldiers of airborne forces published in 1942 and it was pretty boring because it is insanely similar to modern Russian field manuals (I've read the one published in 2005). When attacking run from no longer than 5 seconds, jump on the ground 20 meters away from cover, crawl to it, observe the battlefield shooting spotted enemies and digging in, some time later run again and repeat until you are close, then attack. The same procedure is explained in Russian "Sergeant's manual" of 2005.
I bet there were a lot of completely incompetent commanders and soldiers but attacking flanks, using cover and shooting with your rifle is so obvious that it was prioritised in the middle of 19th century. The hard thing that people fail at is everything else - planning, coordinating simultaneous frontal attack (or else the enemy won'e let you flank him) and flanking manoeuvre, controlling dispersed troops using cover (if you don't they will probably stay in cover instead of charging) and choosing the right position and battle formation to fire at the enemy effectively. The "oh they attacked the front instead of just teleporting behind their backs they are so stupid" is insanely lazy and primitive way of explaining military failures (but only in hindsight) and sometimes it's just a way to say that you don't like someone. People should either go deeper than this or stop using these terms entirely and just say that they don't like someone or that someone was defeated.
