Libation author here. Thank you so much for your kind review :D I'm incredibly flattered that you included Libation in your channel. This is really surreal to actually watch a stranger using my software. Of course I know this is what happens with every user but I don't witness it. Thank you again!
It worked very well, thanks, but one book failed to convert, repeatedly, with no explanation. Any ideas about that? Fifty some odd other audible books in my Amazon account were processed fine in Libation except for three that had disappeared ("borrowed"?). Can I get the books to play on my Kobo device? I haven't found any information about doing that.
hm, I'm not sure how to help. I've never had an issue with any titles not working. as for the Kobo question I'm not sure, I have a boox tablet in house rn for testing but I've never used one of the kobos, you'd have to look into that on the GitHub. if the kobo can install android apps or at least play the converted files, I don't see why it wouldn't work.
You can actually get abs on ios you just ha e to go through beta flight but if you want a quick and dirty method set up a new music library in Plex and under the advanced settings there's a setting you can check to remember playback progress which will keep your playback progress in the book you won't get anything like bookmarks or anything fancy like that and unless you have metadata local plexus and super good at metadata for books but it isn't working quick and dirty method it's what I used to do before I found audio bookshelf
So do I own audiobooks or does it still need to be used by another program? Like can I use the audiobook as an MP3 on my computer or does it still need to go through an app?
Libation is downloading and stripping the drm, you could open the files in VLC or plex even (plex has a remember track progress setting if you set the library up as music) or you can use audio bookshelf like in the video to host your own version of audible
Really? I wonder if the devs will find a workaround. You still have the website you can stream from but i know its not as good as the app atleast on Android. Maybe apple will approve their app store appeal?
Try using the authentication method where it uses a webpage. if that doesn't work, Id reach out to the Developer of Libation on Github. I also have issues putting my username and password in, amazon does not seem to like that.
Hmmm weird. You logged in successfully and all that? I havent had any problems so you might wanna reach out to the creator for some support if your having issues, best advice i have is double check the login, reinstall and reboot, beyond that i got nothing, sorry my friend
Good question, while i dont know the developer personally the source code is open and thousands of people have used and modified the software. Obviously anything can happen in the tech world but id say its as safe as it can be. I feel far more comfortable giving libation my audible / Amazon details then I do giving plaid my bank details lol
As far as I know there's nothing quite this easy. I'm only slightly into eBooks so I'm not sure. There is a self hosted app like audiobookshelf called Kavita for ebooks and comic books. and I know using the kindle pc app and a program called Calibre you can backup the books and strip drm. Ill add this to my notebook and make a video on the subject someday. Hope this helps :)
Nope They are backups of your books. even if you cancel your audible account you can still access the books inside of Audible. The way I currently do it is I don't even have an audible subscription, I just login to audible or amazon and buy the audiobook I want to listen to, full price and then backup to my audiobookshelf library and listen there. Audible for me is only the store to buy books
No Problem, I didn't mention it in my video but there's a public domain library for audiobooks called Librivox. It's all volunteers that narrate the books and all the books are in the public domain so it's free. Won't have newer stuff but has a ton of great older books (My copy of The Art of War is from that site). Enjoy the Journey
@@Technogizguy thank you! Unfortunately im italian, so listening an entire english book would be more a torture for my brain lol. Anyway there are some youtube channel that have videos where they read some books in italian, so we have some free audiobooks too.
@@cherubino95 ah yeah that will make it hard, librivox has multi language though food for thought. Also Ai could potentially help you translate a ton of non translated books. Thanks for watching my English content 😃
Good question. Yes and No let me explain. Libation as far as I know only works for audible but i may be wrong but audiobookshelf is just a convenient frontend for your audiobooks and comics. So if you already have audiobooks backed up from other sources then yes audiobookshelf will work but if your asking about libation i dont know
@@Technogizguy Cheers, thanks for that. I am currently in the middle of the download process thanks to you and have discovered about 8 now unavailable titles. As I had spent my money to purchase credits to get the books it is now gone so I will be writing to audible and asking 'what the actual...' It is amusing to me that they don't refund the credit because if a company loses publishing rights for a printed book they don't come to your house and steal the title off your bookshelf - and that is what it feels like with audiobooks, theft.
You wont get far sadly. The issue goes all the way up. Our laws here in the US havemt caught up to modern forms of digital media and the capitalist companies have taken full advantage of that fact. They are more than happy to take more of your money snd give you less. At a certain point we all have to agree that if if buying is not owning than piracy is not stealing (people should still support creators, artists, studios and talents just not these greedy unwieldy corporations. Glad you were able to come to the light maybe next week we can get you building a plex server 😉
@@Technogizguy I got two credits back. It appears the bulk of my missing ones had been in the Plus catalogue. So it is still a small comfort. I actually got to chat to a live human who helped me on the spot. But now my total catalogue is backed up thanks to you. Cheers.
a big part of the problem is the antiquated laws that the geriatric puppets in dc won’t change. We as people have to take it upon our self’s to at least backup our favorites. ultimately like I said in the video I only go to audible’s website to purchase audiobooks and all of my listening and bookmarks, and my personal stories and all that live within audiobookshelf and I have my system set up where I can access it remotely most of the time I don’t even bother downloading the books because I can just stream straight from my server and I never have to worry about audible taking them because they lost the rights or because the author said something that maybe isn’t in favor anymore or whatever reason. Sorry to hear that my man i hope you found the series elsewhere
I am extremely technology incompetent but really need to free my books so I can download them onto simple Mp3 players for my kids. I got to far as downloading the file but do not know how to 'unzip' it or 'run' it. I do not have the winRAR program on my computer. Can you share a link of where I can get it. I look at the app store and it did not have one with the same icon as yours. Please Help!
If your on windows youll want to google winrar but the built in file explorer should handle the zip folder same for mac and linux if your trying to do this on a phone/tablet it wont work the libation software is win/mac/linux only. Once you get it setup the software will decrypt and convert the files. If your kids are using old ipods/iphones or andorid devices an audiobook player or even vlc will work but the setup is definitely best when tied in with AudioBookShelf since it acts as the frontend
@@Technogizguy Whoohoo! I got this to install and work BUT I did not make a file on my desktop for where to store these books. They are in Libation and all have the green light next to them. Glad to hear it, data preservation is important in the dying internet
So glad your recommendation popped up. I'm "liberating" my library as I'm typing this!
Glad I could help
You have changed my life.
Glad to hear it 🙂
Thanks for this, I was looking for something to consolidate all my books in one app to listen and this looks like the one.
Glad it could be helpful. As a long time audible user abs and libation have filled the gap for books
