Its so funny you said both of my FAV booktubers when mentioning who you refer too when choosing a new book to read! your a man of good taste obviously haha. Mike and Matt are both fantastic genuine human beings and they deserve our views booyah
The struggle of having experienced something (whether it’s a book or tv show, etc) and having opinions about it but having no one to talk through it with is real. I’ve debated starting a channel just so people will comment on books that I’ve actually read and want dialogue with someone on. And then I remember I don’t know how to edit videos and it sounds like a lot of work and I don’t really care about learning so I don’t 😂
Mmmmm been asking for this for ages. Mike got me on to Booktube and really made the transition from YA to adult fantasy and sci-fi for me. Having him alongside my favourite book duo *chef’s kiss*
Sometimes you gotta get to book 2, and the same can be said for Three Body Problem. While the first book is still good, the second and third books are gargantuan in how much they're better, epic, mindbending, devastating and more. Mike, if you're reading, get to it!
I deliver for a courier company, so I just listen to audiobooks all day while I'm working. I've been paid to read hundreds of books at this point, it's great.
I felt similarly about Name of the Wind on my first read, but loved it on the second read. On the other hand I don’t see the big deal about Faithful and the Fallen.
While yes we were forced to read books in school. I LOVED the Outisiders, and the Iliad. So that kind of helped mold my later enjoyment of reading in general.
For a long time I always read just the last page of the book before starting. It doesn’t usually spoil the entire book, but most times will give you some things to maybe watch out for. Kind of like giving yourself your own foreshadow moments. I didn’t know this was a romance community thing though 😂. I’ve always read fantasy and sci-fi mostly
Cradle actually has amazing characters, it's not just about powering up. Also, it has one of the best and mysterious character in fantasy, Eithan Aurelius, who appears in the second book.
I want to thank you guys from Spain for becoming my confort show these past months. I can't seem to find people around me to talk about the books I like but then I found you and discovered wayyy more than I thought I would about this world, so thankss!!!❤❤❤ PS: Could Rich recommend me something similar to WoT (I already have LotR, First Law and about all of the Cosmere)
Rich here. I would recommend Licanius Trilogy for a wheel of time feel. The first book is ok, but the 3rd book is amazing. Fantastic ending and worth the read. Also give The Draconis Memoria series by Anthony Ryan a try.
Hey, awesome! My three favorite BookTubers all together to debate Red Rising, Wheel of Time, Faithful and the Fallen, and ACOTAR! Best collab ever! Also, YESSS!!!!! You guys are admitting that Mike is wiser and more seasoned than you, and he loves John Gwynne and Robin Hobb! That means I have more reason to cyberbully you into reading them! Mwuahhahahaha!!!! I mean, I won't make a website that counts down to a spoiler like that one guy, but the campaign begins! Prepare yourselves Richard, D-less of Shinovar, and Captain Austin Hairblessed!
I am loving watching this! Mike is such a great, down-to'-earth guy. Also, Mike, if you read this, I'm in my mid forties too and I relate to everything you said about being old, lol.
This is an outstanding discussion. I'm not a BookTuber, but I definitely feel you on not wanting to crush a new indie author into the ground, but also not wanting to only say positive things about what you review as it would start to feel contrived. My question is: for a new BookTuber that is just getting started, would it be possible in each review to do about half positive feedback, and then half constructive criticism on what didn't quite work as well as it could have or what could have been done differently? Or would striving to do this cause the entire channel to become - by definition - contrived? To me, the justification for doing it this way would be that there is no perfect book or series, but there's also no point in reviewing something that just doesn't do anything for you. I don't plan to start a channel or anything, but I do wonder what others think.
Great thoughts! Rich and I tried doing this for a few book reviews earlier in the channel days - Id say there’s validity to any review system, so long as the goal is to communicate your thoughts the best way possible bevause otherwise you could just think your review rather than posting your opiniok of it to start a discussion. With that in mind, that could totally work
HELP! Audiobooks, i know rich mentioned a site where you pay a fee and get unlimited books but cant remember it. Anyway i need to get some audiobooks and only trust your tow to say the site. Please let me know asap thanks
I don't know one where you get unlimited other than some sites for India but I use libro.fm. It works like audible but you actually own the book. If you want more for free and are in the USA, try libby to get library books, they also have audiobooks there too.
Great vid! And I respect Mike’s (and others) opinions, but Cradle slander will not be tolerated here! I get that it’s not a format for everyone, but there is no way you can say the characters are lacking in Cradle. Lindon, Yerin and Eithan are top tier.
What other book tube channels do y’all suggest. I only started watching these videos when I started WoT about 10 months ago. I watch this channel a lot and love Mike’s reviews then of course I found Daniel Greene but that is the only channels I watch. I read fantasy and some sci-fi stuff.
@@2ToRamble thank you! I am new to book tube sites and instead spent decades being the only one I was close with that read some books of these fantasy books and it is great to hear other people with the same enthusiasm.
The big three. This is like when Lebron went to Miami. Austin you are Chris bosh though. I know. I know. Not ideal. But it’s like just stand in the corner and jack up 18 footers my guy and look where it gets ya. Unreal pod. Cheers.
everytime Richard say that Name of the Wind is trash i scream back at screen saying that Wheel of Time is trash...Srsly Austin you need to read it so this slander can end..
Thank you guys so much for the invite! I had a HAIL of a time...it's a Red Rising joke, ya see...
One of the best Booktube collabs ever! Finally!
This is my avengers endgame!!
The King of BookTube + 2ToRamble in the same stream? Oh yes give it to me! :D
I love Mike! He's so chill. Excited for this episode :)

@@kristen7623 Lol no! That would be pretty funny though.
2x speed audiobooks at work on a 12 hour shift thats what lifes all about. Screw knowing peoples names at work.

Two of my favorite channels meeting up. Great episode.
Mike is a downright upright guy. Almost always responds to my comments among the many comments on his vids. Love his respect for fellow book nerds

Sun Eater is like the closest Dune equivalent weve gotten so far

I would pay to listen to Mike read certain sections of ACOTAR. 😂
How much?
@@mikesbookreviews depends on how enthusiastic you are!
I didn’t like Name of the Wind either. I was so confused why everyone loved it.
One day Mike… within the next couple of years… you and I shall be discussing football on TH-cam. Mark my words

a lot of people do audiobooks in 2x... which I wonder how much they can actually digest the story
