I completely agree. It can at least be turned into a different type of series they do where Austin reads it first and hypes it up and then Richards reads it and come back. I feel the formula is great seeing the before and after.
The amount of times i burst of laughing at how hard rich is trying to understand austin's explanation but remains clueless all the same is insane. "Also she can't read." "... Okay." 😭
As a 30 year old married man whose wife made him read these books. . . I understand everything Richard does in this episode. P.S. I read this entire series lol i couldn't stop.
Book 2 is a MUST if you want to understand why this series is so beloved. ACOTAR is nothing without book 2. Plus I need to hear Austin explain another book to Rich. 😂
Yes, please do read the 2nd book! 🤓 ACOMAF is my favorite of the series. 🤩 This was a hilarious ep, I especially enjoyed Richard's facial expressions as he tried to understand Austin's explanation of the plot. 😂
I feel it is vital that I point out she did NOT eat the wolf/fae 😭😂 she SKINNED IT and left the carcass in the woods. She took the deer and she sold the wolf pelt in the market. Every time you guys said she ate a fae, I was dying lmao. I do love ACOTAR (well, I don’t love the first book though lol) but I read it after a years long reading slump and it pulled me out of it and reignited my love for reading. I definitely don’t think I would have loved it if I read it for the first time today. That all being said, please read ACOMAF 😂
Also good to mention that the wolf-fea was one of the last of Tamlins "friends" he had left to send out to the human-lands. ..Every day for 50 years he sent someone out, and replaced them with a new fae if that one got killed. All the others got killed by men and he needed a woman to do it.
I was not expecting ACOTAR to launch a nuanced discussion of female sexual desire on 2ToRamble, but I'm here for it 😂 really interesting to hear your takeaways!
Austin is at his best when he’s passionately discussing and ranting about something and making little sense in the process. This episode is basically that for the first 30 minutes and I was pissing my pants laughing.
I read through this series last year and everything you guys said was absolutely right. Here's the weird thing though. Everything you guys said for the first book is completely fair to say. What's weird is that, in some insane gymnastics, Maas takes a concept that should have fell entirely on its face in the first book and ended it there, decided "Nah, Imma keep going" and somehow sticks the landing to an extent where the quality is almost frighteningly undeniable at the end of the series. With my reading friends, the general consensus is that either book 2 or 5 are the best in the series, but after completing the series it was agreed with all of us that, at least plot wise, the first book is a real outlier in the 5 books Maas made in this world. I'd love to go more into this series as a whole, and just how strange it is as a writing concept especially in terms of its mass popularity, but I'm not sure if TH-cam comments is the best place to make an essay haha. There is a reason that this series got as widely popular as it is, BUT there is also plenty of reason why the series that the meme is what it is. The first book is the worst in terms of how bad the memes are strewn throughout (with some notable, but spoilery exceptions). What I will say here is: a lot of series starts with an unimpressive book that many people were unimpressed with and usually wouldn't continue on with (lets call it what it is, Wheel of Time is like this. First Law too), and fans of the series are adamant that you should continue with the series because "it gets better". Acotar is the series that actually proves those fans right, and considering the low that it starts with, that's the most impressive thing about it. Anywho, thanks for coming to my TedTalk. Loved your guys' Lies of Locke Lamora review (it's my fave).
A Court of Silver Flames has some of THE BEST character development I have ever read. Maas’ writing has improved tenfold since the first book. It’s truly astounding how terrible book 1 is compared to the rest. This whole video had me agreeing with every point made about the plot, but also screaming not to judge a series by its first installment.
Anne of Green Gables, Marilla asks Anne, "would you want a wicked man?" Anne thinks about it a bit, and then answers, "I think I would like it if he COULD be wicked, but WOULDN'T." And, that pretty much sums it up all the MMC in the romance novels. There's also a lot to say for a man who makes you feel safe.
I read something once that said that the best man is a man who didn't get rid of the monster inside of him but learns to tame and use it. Seems like the same idea
about the age gap, it's def not what /I/ want and i find it beyond weird that she is only 19 while the l.i is 500+ years, but we tend to forget about that lmfao
I think it is mostly about power dynamics. And the handling of responsibilty that comes along with it. I think possesing so much strength, but not using it against someone, or seeing it being controlled in the face of something fragile is making her feel special.
This is what I love this channel for!! I love seeing Rich convince Austin to read books and I love seeing Austin energetically explain books to Rich. Great content!!
I loved Austin trying to explain the plot in the first part of the video, we need more of this 😂. On a more serious note, I think that many people mistake the fact that someone likes to read about a certain thing, (for example in this case the toxic relation between all characters here 😅) and actually wanting this for themselves or seeing it as desirable. So I like reading about sword combats but in real life want nothing to do with sharp and pointy things that can cause my death... I think that this logic can also be aplied here. (For context, I'm a woman, I have read ACOTAR 1 and I think the description Austin gave at the beginning of the video represents me, I also think that in this book there is no love, there is obsession)
As a girl who primarily reads fantasy, a year ago, I figured I knew what the appeal of a 'villainous' love interest was. It wasn't about a thrill of being scared of him. Breaking it down to pure stereotypes, it was about aesthetic and entertainment. The same way anti-heroes are more popular than regular heroes. A guy in a black tunic looks cooler than one in golden armor. Sarcastic banter from one seems more fun than the gentlemanly manners from the other. Saving the day with him is more interesting when traversing the underground than it is when charging with battlements. As well as wanting a 'layered' guy even if in irony, this whole paragraph is exactly why he isn't. That's what I *thought* . The internet gave me a rude awakening ... T^T
personally, i believe the appeal of a “bad guy” who learns to be kind is so appealing because in the world we live in, it’s all too common for a man to appear all nice and gentle and turn out to be a total monster. it’s refreshing to think about a reality where you know them for all their faults, and they only get better from there
austin's intro to the video at the start just won me over, subbed! pls continue with the next books, i never laughed so much, this was so funny and interesting to hear
I love the fact that they are in uniform. I love tanktops, so this lowkey sold me! Also, that boi Austin out here with the guns! And I'll never not love his hype and energy he brings.
I have never run so fast to press play as when I got a notification for this video. Coming from an ACOTAR stan, I can't wait to hear you two ramble about it.
As a “male audience” high fantasy, lover. And also a romatasy girly. I couldn’t agree more with your it’s a 0 and it’s a 10 rating 😂 I was laughing so hard watching this. Thank you for this hour of entertainment 😂 Also please read book 2 😂
You should definitely read book two, this was hilarious. Also please stop calling real people female when woman/women works fine, it sounds bad. Keep up the good work lads! Reading Red Rising because of you.
I love the way you review this with one of you reading it first then the other it was great to get both of your first thoughts. I read the first 3 books years ago to see what the hype was about and definitely thing you have to continue as book 2 goes a completely different direction. I really want to know your thoughts on it, and it's entertaining to see yous react to it.
this episode was so disgustingly brilliant that i won't even mention that Ostin still didn't read certain awfully great book ! Which name begins with S and ends with hadow Rising
As a woman, I speak only for myself. I think the thrill is, and you'll get this in book two. This man is powerful and he's rough, but he's soft with me (emotionally,) he respects me and shows me the sweet side. The badass to the sweet sensitive side. That's where the balance needs to be. Thats the appeal for a 'book boyfriend' and its the same with Xaden in Fourth Wing. We want men that can fight our battles but knows when to let us fight our own battles.
This is the review I was waiting for, I couldn't stop laughing! I had so much guilty fun reading this book but at the same time it was ridiculously painful to go through.
I liked hearing the points you guys make and it’s fun to see reactions to this book alone as opposed to knowing what happens in the rest of the books that are out. I’m interested to see how your opinions would change if you were to continue
Rhysand will forever be the ideal type✨️ You guys gotta read book 2, it gets better. I'm also on the seesaw of being disgusted with this series but also thoroughtly enjoying it. The mystical land storybuilding gets me intrigued for the most part.
Thank you for making me laugh today.😂 the energy was spot on for these books. These are definitely my comfort food reads where I know they’re bad but I can’t stop eating. (Please read book 2 lol)
Thank you guys. I was almost about to google this book, few of the girl book tubers have this as a favourite. I really stumbled upon this review which really is a PSA.
Oh my god, this is too funny! I'm debating on reading this book. I’ve seen it everywhere and with the recent blowing up it’s been getting with popularity… it being so highly rated has me slightly intrigued. Keeping in mind it is YA so I am not expecting a lot of spicy but a little steam. Edit: Ordered it, because Austin sold it so well - will be reading it this weekend.
This was brilliant! My niece asked me to read it and I did not get to far as the dialogue reminded me of the tv show OC. It looks like I made the right choice dnf’ ing the book by chapter 7. Shauna Lawless who is writing the fantastic historical fantasy the Gael Song was tapped to write a Romantsy novel. So the literature world may get a quality book in that genre afterall, soon enough!!
This was hilarious! You have to read book 2 now, it’s the fans favourite. SJM is my guilty pleasure author, your absolutely right, it is just like bad reality show you can’t stop watching.
İts not even one of my favote series but now I have to see your reaction for book 2 😂😂 hilariously relatable reaction 😂I read the 3 books and altough it was weird sometimes I still enjoyed it 😂
My favorite part of this episode is them just discovering the female gaze and talking to each other about what they’ve discovered in the difference between female and male gaze 🥰🥰
“ACOTAR stans I’m with you, ACOTAR haters I’m with you” My feelings exactly about this series 😂
"The Best 4 out of 10 book you'll ever read" Is the best description of ACOTAR I've ever heard. Flawless analysis.
Can Austin summarize all of the books in the ACOTAR series?! That was quite possibly the best thing I’ve seen all day! 😂
😭😭
Agreed. But the tank top is mandatory.
“what if fairies clapped cheeks?”
Watching this video feels like watching AI summarize acotar, but it’s just slightly off but almost 100% right and I’m absolutely here for it
I need more Austin explaining book plots to Rich, I was dying the whole time 😂😂
I completely agree. It can at least be turned into a different type of series they do where Austin reads it first and hypes it up and then Richards reads it and come back. I feel the formula is great seeing the before and after.
Yeah this works super well 😂😂😂
100% this would be a great segment or routine episode.
Him being so out of breath at one point cracked me up, especially given the context of the book 😂
The amount of times i burst of laughing at how hard rich is trying to understand austin's explanation but remains clueless all the same is insane. "Also she can't read." "... Okay." 😭
😂😂😂😂
"Instead of killing you, I'm going to give you three tests"
Rich- "Why?" 😂 I'm cackling
She probably wants to have fun. She’s a villain who has lived a long ass life. Imagine how boring that would be.
That was one of my favorite booktube moments! “Why?” 😂😂😂
@@LilyEvans1996 I can imagine that, but just the way Rich said it slayed me
@@sunnythomas9738 Same lol

"I don't wanna use the word love. If this is love i don't want it." I DIED DEAD 😂😂😂😂😂

Guys, the book was spicy enough. You tryna kill us with the muscles? RIP
😂
Was the only reason I clicked the vid 🤣
Book 2 is a MUST if you want to understand why this series is so beloved. ACOTAR is nothing without book 2. Plus I need to hear Austin explain another book to Rich. 😂
Book two is probably worse, the plot basically being repeated is terrible.
Rhysand has dark hair. That's it about book 2
Not really. All it is is character assassination.
Sarah J Maas books are like a bag of potato chips, you know its bad for you, but you sit down on the couch and binge it all 😂
That is the best description I’ve ever heard for her books!
Omg yes!!!! Such a guilty pleasure series!
Yes, please do read the 2nd book! 🤓 ACOMAF is my favorite of the series. 🤩 This was a hilarious ep, I especially enjoyed Richard's facial expressions as he tried to understand Austin's explanation of the plot. 😂
the number of Austin's "WE'RE GETTING TO THAT- HOLD ON" I can't
😂
Rich: How'd she know it was a faerie if it could shapeshift and look like a wolf?
Austin: It... It was a big wolf...
Rich: *loooong pause*... ok 🤷♂️
And she thinks, "this is probably a fae"...I'm gonna kill him anyway. 🙄 I spent so much time in these books yelling at Feyre. Read them all. 😂
I feel it is vital that I point out she did NOT eat the wolf/fae 😭😂 she SKINNED IT and left the carcass in the woods. She took the deer and she sold the wolf pelt in the market. Oh thats right 😂😂 though skinning it is also bad I guess not eating the fae is good lol - thank you for the correction
Still not good, but less cannibalistic 😂💀
Also good to mention that the wolf-fea was one of the last of Tamlins "friends" he had left to send out to the human-lands. ..Every day for 50 years he sent someone out, and replaced them with a new fae if that one got killed. All the others got killed by men and he needed a woman to do it.

But you are right, Andras was one of the few left
My wife said the books get better and she wants you to continue the series
I like the fun twist where she murders two innocent people for no reason because she decides she can do the riddle in the end.
This was hilarious. "Austin explains the plot to Richard" should be a new series on the channel, there are so many deliciousy bad books out there.
This is it, new form of content. We have transcended.

Coming from a huge epic fantasy guy who’s read everything you’ve read, PLEASE READ BOOK 2!!! I have to see your reactions and discussions!

Please read book two, this was amazing 😂😂😂
“This is where fiction ends” so much meaning in that one statement
"You women are PSYCHOPATH !" HAHAHAH yes yes we are ! We've developed the best poker face to read in public, no one can beat that !
That “oh 🫠” after hearing the characters name killed me
That's not even how her name is pronounced which makes it even better 😂
Austin -"shes a free prisoner"
Richard - "thats an oxymoron"
Austin's opening line on this episode is the most elegant thing that has been produced on this podcast lmao 😂
