  • I am brand new at Watchmaking and repair. I have been collecting tools to start my journey and have done a lot of research to help me decide which tools I need to start and which brands are the best for the job. There are many different tools and brands to choose from. Cheap ones and expensive ones. I prefer to go for the best when getting into something, so I choose most of my tools from Bergeon. Bergeon is known as the top-of-the-line when it comes to horology tools. Here are just some of the tools I choose to start with. This is NOT a paid promotion by Bergeon, just me explaining what tools I choose and why. Any images and logos used are owned by their copyright. Only used Images for description purposes.
    I would love to hear from you below about my choices.
    Here is an easy way to purchase anything you saw in my videos. It is an Amazon Affiliate link that helps support the channel. Thanks for using them.

    Hey, me too! I spent wayyyy too much and got a full watchmaking setup for myself with desk, camera mounts, tools, everything. I am loving all these new channels popping up -- it seems like this hobby is making a major comeback! Mechanical watches in general are just really fascinating, and I'm glad to see so many other people share the passion. Liked and subbed, and best of luck to you sir! 🍻

    Welcome to the hobby, tbh I’d not put “watchmaker” on the credits. That title is earned sir. You don’t call yourself a doctor on day one of med school.
    Also, just because you buy a snap on tool box and fill it with tools doesn’t mean you have any business testing into an engine.
    I say these things not to discourage, but more to illustrate that you have no idea what you don’t know. And anyone watching this thinking they need to follow your lead, are better served buying books and old movements, and learning which tools THEY need (and you need) for the jobs being done.
    Happy to subscribe and follow your journey, but want it to get off on the right foot.

      @@bencope4483 I was afraid some honesty would come off that way, and it’s not meant to be mean. I want nothing but success and awesome experiences for this person and channel.
      I promise if I introduced myself as Dr Me on day one of med school the Docs around would feel some type of way. That’s all I was truly trying to illustrate, not to take the wind out of sails, but hopefully encourage the progression. 🫡

      So dude, I have heard this feedback also, apparently watchmaking isn't as simple as it appears.
      So what would you recommend as a starter kit for tools?
      I am brand new and am close to buying my first set of tools, do you have a tool kit recommendation, that has all in one?

    • @user-tj8dk4pm9l
      @user-tj8dk4pm9l 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’m replying from my other account, but I am the one above making these comments about Dr in day 1 of med school.
      Anywho, I’d suggest anything Kwong Yuen for starters stuff. There is no “one kit fits all” in the field, because every one has their own learning process and desired goals to complete. Piece together screwdrivers from KY, and finger cots and tweezers and magnifying aids that suit your needs. A case cushion and movement holder and see where it takes you. You will find points of delay where you have to order a tool because you find you need it mid-job. That’s ok. And everyone’s needs are different. I will say spending good money on Dumont or Bergeon brass and bronze tweezers from the jump is not a bad idea; if you decide you don’t like them, people are always looking for used ones to buy.
      Old eBay movements sold in lots, not running, are good to fiddle with. Pocket watches and 6497 are huge movements making part manipulation easy for a beginner. Etc.

    Great video! I’m just starting out myself. You left out screwdrivers! Lol I went with then 30081-P05 and I’m really impressed. Also, the 7924-as tweezers work really well
    A few things I’ve found come in handy. A pin vice, presto hand pulled, hand pushers, and an air blower. I also bought the multicolor parts trays from Amazon

    I made the mistake of buying cheap tools to start the hobby. I wasted my money as the cheapos were not up to the job. As with everything in life it’s better to buy the best you can afford - and although they’re pricey you won’t go wrong with Bergeon, Horotec and Dumont tools.

    • @EricBishard
      @EricBishard 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There are some tools that you can do for the cheap version, just not that many. Good luck.

    Nice video. For Watch case opener, I went for the Bergeon 7403 instead of the 4932 as it is always handy to have a knife handy to sharp the pegwood every once in a while. Nonetheless, I'm tempted to get the 4932 too just for collecting purposes. There is an unbranded Victorinox model that looks awesome too; Victorinox Watchmaker 60 Alox in case you are interested.

    On fora I saw somebody saying that rodico is like a sponge with greases from your skin and you should not touch it without finger cods or gloves. Also taking it out of its wrapper can introduce dirt in the fresh rodico. Just something to keep in mind in the future.

    • @WatchOverhaulin
      @WatchOverhaulin  ปีที่แล้ว

      You use Rodico to clean up grease and oil from the watch. So I don’t think I tiny bit from my finger will make a big difference. But I plan on using finger cots. Was just opening and showing it for the first time.

    • @alexanderkamerbeek9693
      @alexanderkamerbeek9693 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WatchOverhaulin I know but what can happen is that the rodico will leave some residue once it's too oily, so it's better to have it as clean as possible.

  • @EricBishard
    @EricBishard 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I've been picking up new tools for a while, almost everything on this desk is best to get the Bergeon type. A few that aren't as important. The Mainspring barrel closer (7922) there are $10 versions that will be just fine although a few cheap versions that aren't that great. But, you can probably save $30 on getting a generic brand.
    The 8 ball back case opener and the knife are both ones you can get for a bit cheaper, but when it comes to the knife, make sure your getting something like a Boley, because you still want similar quality.
    The watch Dial 6398 protectors although you can get something else, like you said, it's inexpensive, so just get the Burgeon or use something hand made from plastic.
    Everything what with exception of the eye loop with i wild just say, there are better options than Berge9n for similar price, everything else really needs to be Bergeon.

    Damn dude. You really splurged on the good stuff. I bought some tools but not one of them is Bergeon. I'm sure most of their tools are of waaaaay better quality than the Chinese stuff but not enough for me to spend that kind of money, especially for something I haven't even tried yet. Tbh they have a lot of nerve asking what they ask for some of their stuff, like the 8 ball and air blower. C'mon... "Swiss made" Anyway, good luck🤞

    I'm curious how is RODICO different from tack, general purpose blue tack. I had a bunch of it from other hobbies, and i use it exactly like people use rodico, and works perfectly fine.
    And there's a huge difference in price for what you get. So if anyone worked with both, i'm curious what rodico does or how is it different than plain old tack.

    • @occamraiser

      Bluetack leaves grease behind. Just try putting a poster on a wall with it then taking it down aa few months later there is a blue grease stain on the wall forever.
