Hello, I was able to create the backup successfully on the external and can open the folder on my external, but when I go to restore, there are no backups that appear when I click "Restore Backup..." or "Manage Backups.." PLEASE HELP ME!!! I waited a long time for it to load in case it wasn't loading because it was a large back up, but I just backed up a new phone and it successfully created a new backup in the external but that one also doesn't appear when I try to restore it?

Thanks for your comment and your subscription :) Yep, you need just the cable and any external hard drive with enough free space! Good Luck ;)

Now if you connect ssd with windows pc will you be able to view your photos and videos???????
Bcoz I have videos pc & it is nearly impossible to take 110 GB data backup there…
But I can arrange mac from my friend just for backup purpose…
    Please answer my main question👆👆

Thanks for part 2, needed it to make part 1 work.. But curious, can I just copy the new backup data to an external hard drive and delete the original on Mac? When and if I ever need it just copy it back. Will that work?

Cant you just right click and click on create alias for the Backup folder in your harddrive and then move it to the MobileSync folder in your MaacBook? No need to mess with the terminal then. Or would that not be the same thing?

  • @mikeellis4345
    @mikeellis4345 หลายเดือนก่อน

This stuff is really only for the more advanced techno folks. Messing with terminal code is fraught with danger as I sadly found out. Especially when instruction like this is so quickly given.

When I delete the link Backup folder (arrow one) and leave MobileSync with no folders in it, will the mac itself create a new Backup folder for next backups? thank you so much

For those that the command doesn't work, try to keep the backup folder only under 3 folders in the directory, eg. SSD Drive > iPhone Backups > Backups. I had one more folder Above iPhone Backups folder (in this example) and the command didn't work.

OK So strange thing, this worked to link the folder from my external harddrive automatically for a back up, however it made a separate folder on the harddrive for ever single photo and phone note etc. etc. Any thoughts?

Help! I am having a rare problem, and is that the HDD keeps ejecting improperly when almost finishing the backup. I thought it was the drive (My Passport For Mac 2TB) and decided to buy another one (same model) along with a straight USB Micro B to USB-C cable from AmazonBasics to not use the multiport (Anker 5-1) since I used it to charge the Macbook and iPhone for the transfer.
I have tried many settings such:
    - Disksleep set to 0 via Terminal
    - Toggle On the “Prevent automatic sleeping on power adapter when the display is off”
    - Toggle off the “Put Hard disks to sleep when possible
    - “Turn display off on battery when inactive“ set to Never as well as “Turn display off on power adapter when inactive”
    - Also checked in the WD Drive utilities and set the Sleep timer of the HDD to off
Note: Both the Macbook Air and the iPhone are both on the latest versions available in the moment: Sonoma 14.2.1 and IOS 17.2.1
I would greatly appreciate if anybody could help with this problem, thanks!

Backup your iPhone and wait for the message - backup successful. You can try to restore your iPhone and select your latest backup from the external hard drive - if it works - it means the backup is complete. Try to check if your backup file is big - if yes it means it is ok ;)

Backup installed on external drive OK. However, after doing 3 backups of 3 iPhones, the MacHD suddenly jumped from 24 GB to 40 Gb. I cleaned the MacHD with 2 different apps, but they could not reduce the Gb. McHD also says that it has 19 Gb purgeable files, but there is no way to get rid of the purgeable files. Can you help? What is going on? Is it a major defect in the Mac software (I have Sonoma OS) that keeps eating the internal drive? No such problem in Linux.

Hi Arthur! I did all the steps in your previous video and it seems to sync (took such a long time!), but strangely enough the size of the backup folder says "25 bytes (Zero bytes on disk)". Not sure if it successfully synced if the storage space taken up is so low...

If you are using old spinning hard drive using USB 2.0 it will be very slow. Use an external SSD instead :)

You instructions in part 1 do seem very simple, however I keep getting the error message No such file or directory - then it gives the information for my external HD. I’ve given terminal full access. I’m putting in the ln ~s command in correctly. But it’s still not working. Ughhh so frustrating.

Any tips on how to get my Voice Memo names to show the actual "Title" I gave it in the Voice Memo app on my iPhone?
I see all my Voice Memo .m4a files on my external disk, but they all just have default filenames based on date of creation (e.g. 20230608-23324.m4a) instead of the Title I gave it on my phone (e.g. Jazz Concert NYC.m4a).
Can't figure this out for the life of me.
