That's why I have SPDs on my road bike with more track-style shoes (and more flat tread shoes with spd cleats for MTB). If I put my foot out and down, the pedal releases. That is, IF the tension is set right.
I had 3 of the slow motion falls when I first started with clipless pedals and remember the first one as if it just happened 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣, a clipless beginner on a 12% gradient then the bike stopped… I can see I am falling but there is nothing I can do🤭

Haha! It's a rite of passage when learning clipless pedals. Don't feel bad!
