    props protectors are recomended to fly only for indoors and not to outdoors cause the weight change the load of power on motors ,take the off and u will fly anywhere beyond the limitation u saw,

      Yep, I know and have seen a TON of people fly them outdoors like I did though in this video though which contributes to this error unexpectedly popping up!

    Bro, the Mini is supposed to always be engaging Payload Mode, if it doesn't recognize it then there is something wrong..
    I wish that every Mavic Mini owner would just read that little book just one time... So much useful info in there that prevents stuff like this...
    Sweet

      @@filiplaskovski9993 really, wow, amazing... Well there be such a thing as Payload Mode in the menu options and it automatically or manually can be engaged..
      Basically if the Mini senses that it's difficult for it fly, well more difficult than normal, then it realizes that it's carrying something and by Automatically engaging the Payload Mode it restricts the max altitude and max distance to be safe and close to the pilot..
      Sweet
      Keep well and be safe bro.

      Michael _Gaming , in the mean time until he makes a video , try folding a piece of foil and sticking it right behind your antennas like the range extenders would be. Sometimes a hassle to keep it in position, but works about the same as range extenders, it works great for my Evo drone, never tried it with the mini yet , I’m sure it will help you keep a stronger signal, it does become more critical to keep the controller facing the drone , especially if you stretch way out , if you try you will see what I mean . Happy flying!!

    One time I was fling my Spark months after I had first gotten it, and it gave me a distance limit. I was super confused and looked into the settings and saw that the drone was in beginner mode. It wouldn't let me turn it off even after restarting it several times. I gave up for the day and when I tried again a few days later, it was back to normal. DJI drones have weird quirks sometimes. It's interesting that something similar yet not exactly the same is affecting the Mini. These problems kind of should not be affecting a drone that has been out for many months at this point haha... Anyways, great video as always man! Thanks for helping out the community and providing such quality content!

    OMG: I got my Mavic Mini about a week ago & this distance & height restriction has had me pulling my hair out. I took the rotor cage off & it finally flies the way I expected it to. I think Prop guards are ONLY meant to fly indoors. I felt the same as once I was flying from inside the home to outside and across the neighborhood with prop guards on and got the message “Max Distance Reached”. Why? Got the answer today. 😀👍

  • @thrillhillracing41
    @thrillhillracing41 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It senses the prop protectors by noticing the take off rpm and hover rpm is higher than normal. No sensors or special wizardry needed. Just observations of operational rpms for the motors. Same way it senses the prop issues. One motor just won’t reach full rpm and then it throws a code. Dji has incorporated a ton of features in this little mini. Happy flying everyone.

  • @noonespecific9463

    The motors have to work harder to produce enough lift to make the drone fly. That’s how the drone knows the prop protectors are installed. The mavic air 1 also knows when you install it’s prop guards. I’m not sure whether it limits the max distance though. That mini is cool as an indoor flier, I can fly it into every room in my house from one my bed room, at times there are at least 3 walls between controller and drone. Keeps perfect signal though always. I wouldn’t try without the prop guards on though. LOL!

    • @thethinkingbyte
      @thethinkingbyte 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same with me! Even though I’m actually pretty good at flying drones, something can happen at any time and I could break my drone... I don’t want to take a chance

    Weight sensors. I believe either over 40g or 50g mini will automatically go into the limitation setting for battery/motor efficiency

    • @carsonmtech
      @carsonmtech  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Like I said, there are NOT sensors to measure this. A couple commenters said it’s likely that DJI monitors the battery voltage draw and are able to tell they are on by that. Good theory though!

    Hey Carson... Though I don't own a Mini, your info on antenna position is good, not only for the Mini, but also for the Platinum and 2Pro as well.
    I do have a Range Booster device. Have tried it a couple of times, but not sure if it really worked or not.
    Glad you commented on the VLOS situation. I've watched way too many people at my local flying field, launch their drones, drop their eyes to their phone screens, and fly their drones out of sight (which means they are flying outside the boundary of the flying field).
    You might mention that people should really download a copy of DJI manual for their specific model drone, and get familiar with the content.
    Thus far on You Tube, I've seen two guys lose their drones (a Mini and a Phantom) on range checks. They didn't understand (as the manuals point out), that once the battery charge drops into the red zone, the drone will land where it is. The only control the operator has (hopefully) is to direct the drone away from rocks, trees, etc.; minimize damage.
    I've picked up some really good info by reading the manuals.
    FAA should make this a requirement in the future - all drone operates must have a "current" copy of the OPS/Owners manual. Such a manual is required for general aviation and commercial aviation aircraft.
    Ah.... Sorry... I've blathered on.

    • @carsonmtech
      @carsonmtech  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Tony! I do think manuals can be helpful for a lot of things, but they also don’t cover a lot of real-world issues that can arise that they don’t talk about. In saying that, with my very first drone, the DJI Phantom 3 Standard, I read through that manual numerous times before flying for the very first time!

    A double folded piece of aluminum foil behind the antennas works as well as those clam shell range extenders, save your money, and just use foil, it makes pointing the controller toward the drone always more important, your antennas are more directional with clam shells, foil, or whatever you use as an extender. They do help maintain a stronger signal if used properly though, at least personally I’ve had decent success with them. Clam shells do stay on better and cost between 8 and 12 bucks on amazon, so not a huge expense really.

    I love Scott! So cute! Thanks for sharing this discovery. Payload should be calculated from the motor throughput by comparing with and without the load. With load at the initial setup, the drone computer calibrates through the control system and notice there is load. Prop protector is a must for indoor flying experience, but don’t use it outdoor.

    The mini "knows" its prop guards are on because the icu has to give more power to lift off, this additional power is registered and it automatically limits the distance, if you add the small prop guards the mini doesnt react to extra weight and flys normaly.

    First off, Scott is cute, but the payload solution you provided, sorry to say, is totally irrelevant. I've found out what the cause behind this is, simply the controller and your app/phone are no longer in sync or not fully connected, and it seems like it's a safety measure that the app wouldn't let you fly far so that you always see your drone. The quick solution is to disconnect the cable from the phone and reconnect it again., however, what I'd do is return the drone, then disconnect my phone, reboot my phone, reboot the controller, reboot the drone, and it works fine, but if that's too much, disconnect and reconnect the controller cable. Hope this helps.

    I've read about another cause of flight height/distance limitation. When the DJI Fly app is installed on a Smartphone, a DJI id is requested. If this is not provided, flight height/distance limitations will become effective. I don't remember from where I obtained a DJI id, it might have been from DJI Assistant 2.

    I was understanding that the DJI Mavic Mini had GPS on it, so you can fly it on the GPS and not Wifi.

    • @carsonmtech
      @carsonmtech  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No. No DJI drone is like that. The GPS is there to allow RTH (return to home) to return the drone back go home when connection is lost, it allows the drone to know the home point so it can keep track of how far the drone has gone, and a couple other things. It doesn’t allow you to fly the drone over GPS though. Some apps out there that are 3rd party and not made by DJI allow autonomous flight, even when the drone is disconnected from the flight controller which is very odd, but it’s not impossible. I wouldn’t recommend this though!

    • @carsonmtech
      @carsonmtech  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would make sure that all cables from the gimbal are attached to the drone and gimbal, recalibrate the gimbal if possible.

    My nephew got a mini the other day and his second flight he was over the water about 15’ high. The drone was 323ft away from him and it lost gps signal. Nothing between Him and the drone. The drone went into attitude mode and starting drifting I guess and went into the water. Why would it loose gps signal that close and will dji replace it with the refresh program

    Is there any way to get the active track feature on the Mavic Mini? I’m trying to film retrievers who race out and make retrieves of up to 400 yards. It’s a real challenge to manually track a fast-moving dog with a nice video composition. Any suggestions, other than buy the Mavic Air 2?

    • @carsonmtech
      @carsonmtech  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, but the Mavic Mini and Mini 2 drones both do not have any form of active track, sadly :(. Your only other way of getting it would in fact being to upgrade to the Mavic Air 2 or similar drone that does support active track.

    It probably knows the guards are on due to added weight. "payload" might have been a hint. Also the interference was because u flew directly over a set of power lines with massive electromagnetic radiation emitting from them.

    How do you add the app/phone display to your videos? Do you use a separate audio recorder? (not the mic on your camera?) Do you edit your videos using an editing program having to sync your audio files to your video clips and make sure it matches in the timeline? I'd love to see you do a tutorial about how you record and edit everything you do. Thanks!
