One Of These Chests Is Lying, Figure It Out - Mimic Logic

- Mimic Logic Part 2 - it's time for an even harder game mode than last time, random mode! Instead of a determined number of mimics, the number of mimics is between 1 and 3, meaning you have to use different and more interesting logic to find the impostors. Fun!

That's the exact opposite of the liar paradox
The weapon you equipped at 13:29 wasn't actually the Kukri you bought. It was the Power Axe you got at 12:22. That's why your attack went up by as much as it did. (Equippable items are in a separate menu from consumable items; you should also generally just press the "equip best" button whenever your weapon breaks to make sure if you have something.)
I was about to comment! Then i saw your and saw it was already explained for him
There are definitely opportunities to unequip your weapon to conserve durability, either by not having a weapon at all, or by swapping to a weapon who's durability you don't care about.
@@jackkimball521 Yeah that's true. There was an opportunity for that in the video actually! At the point where he equipped the Sapphire Rod (or whatever that item was called) he could've just killed the enemy with no weapon and conserved its durability that way.
There's a red mark on my forehead now after watching this.
2000iq plays determining mimics, 5iq plays determining combat choices.
@@gaskinforeman303Tyler does not pretend to be the best at non-puzzles... It's just on brand for our boy.
I love this game, the logic behind the puzzles is done so well, especially with it being randomly generated
11:50 When a box says "a mimic" it means the same as "at least one", but if it says "1 mimic" it's exact
And he felt so good about using the blue crystal there 😂😅
14:10 was a risk. "a mimic" means any amount while "1 mimic" means exactly 1
Both red could have been lying, there was space for 3 mimics and 1!=2 so black is still lying as proven
Since when is 1 factorial 2?
@@xaviersavard6343 the symbol combination of != is used in programming to denote "not equal" as unicode symbols usually aren't included in general syntax.
@@xaviersavard6343I dunno if you are joking, but != is "not equal to" in programming languages. They essentially said 1 ≠ 2.
@@Ze_eT probably just a joke :D.
I was thinking exactly this! A risky play.
Aliensrock casually forgets that he can put his best equipment between attacks on combat floor and wastes money on a shop weapon while having plenty to equip still
That's the difference between int and wis. Being amazing with numbers and logic puzzles doesn't equate to checking all the menus efficiently and reading all the item descriptions
10:58 careful, that center box could've been a mimic, in which case there'd be 3 mimics, making its statement a lie.
I was about to say the center and right one could be mimics
After this game, Tyler could join Frieren's party and together they'd be unstoppable.
If she'd listen
true!
frieren would still risk all of the 50-50s
Remember, the mimic detection spells are only 99% accurate, and the chest could have a grimoire in it.
she'd risk 0.001% chance
18:52 Bro really cleared himself using the liar's paradox
Another thing is the girl tell you that chest that "tell" on themselves can't lie, like if a top row chest say "theres a mimic in the top row" or a black chest say "theres a mimic in one of the black chest",those have to be true, thats a nice helping hand sometime
Perdón por el español, pero quería aclarar que la razón de eso es que los mimics solo pueden mentir entonces no pueden auto acusarse dado a qué eso significaría decir la verdad cosa que no pueden hacer
Well you can also reach that conclusion with logic. If a black chest says a black chest is a mimic, then it can't be a mimic, since that would make the statement a lie.
It would be in contradiction with itself.
Aliens, to avoid a situation similar to 12:45 you should look at your gear inventory or just click equip best to see if you really have no weapon remaining. Also the kurki does only give +4 attack and you equipped a crystal axe instead, which you still had remaining before buying the kukri.
Heyyy!! I was afraid this series wouldn't continue, but i'm happy that it is getting a second part!
13:21 No, wait that's not the weapon you bought/equipped. I don't think weapons and armor show up in your consumable items.
yea it was not. Kukri was better than his currently equipped weapon that is why it said +4.. however he had an even better weapon. It is always good idea to equip the best before going shopping.
Weapons and Armor are gear and they indeed do not show up in your consumable items.
I’m just waiting for Tyler to melt when a chest says “I am a mimic”
This sentence is a lie
Bout to open this chest wish me luck
Introduction to confused chests: "I am a mimic"
I'm so excited for the higher difficulty dungeon types, seeing tyler solve doubt or confusion will be fun
Hah yea! Took him 35 minutes for this one though but he is smart surely he can do it :D. Doubt is the one i find confusing and confusion i just find a bit harder because of an extra liar in every puzzle.
14:10 was actually a lucky 50/50, the red boxes were saying that there were 0 mimics among reds but they could've been both mimics making it a 3 mimic puzzle.
True.
Apparently from another commenter, something Tyler probably didnt know because he skipped the intro. If a box talks about itself, it must be telling the truth
@@melon_grove5694 doesn't it apply only if the box is telling on itself? If for example a red box says "there's at least 1 mimic among red boxes", then it logically be a mimic, since a mimic always tells a lie, and if it was a mimic, it would be telling truth, which mimics can't do.
Everyone balling until a mimic says “I am a mimic.”
It seems like it might happen in the "Confuse" mode, where there is gonna be one confused chest that is lying but is not a mimic
@@gnarmaw7039 the joke is that “I am a mimic” cannot be true, but it also can’t be false
Is a mimic -> is lying -> “I am a mimic” is true
Isn’t a mimic -> isn’t lying -> “I am a mimic” is false
@@wingdinggaster6737 A mimicking in doubt mode could say that since there Mimics tell the truth, and a confused box could say that as well
Just wait till a box says "i'm a mimic" and breaks the spacetime continuum
Or even better: the box on my right is a mimic, the box on my left isn't a mimic.
imagine your minding your business taking a nap when someone forcefully rips your mouth open and takes your loot
10:56 that middle chest is actually a 50/50. Because if its telling the truth, then it would correctly be saying its 2 mimics. However, if it was a mimic and it was lying, then it would be 3 mimics total. Tyler got pretty lucky that it wasnt a mimic
Actually there's pretty sound logic to this one. The top two chests are either both mimics or are both telling the truth, if we assume the top two boxes are both mimics, then bottom row black chest is lying making it also a mimic, bringing us up to three mimics making the middle chest a mimic bringing us up to four mimics, that's not possible. If we assume the top two chests are not mimics then middle row right chest is a mimic because it's lying about the top row meaning we have one mimic in the red chests making bottom row black chest a mimic as well giving us exactly to mimics making the rest of it true
@@michaelness5606 yeah but if the red chest in the middle were a mimic along with the right and bottom right, that would be three, making it a lie
It fulfills its own statement either way; if it’s telling the truth it makes sense, but if it’s lying it would also make sense.
All we know for certain is that it’s always the mimic on the right and bottom right
@@michaelness5606 okay, however, if the middle box isn't a mimic, then there would indeed be 2 mimics (i.e the middle box is not lying) and it wouldn't be contradictory
and if the middle box is a mimic, then there would not be 2 mimics (i.e the middle box is lying) and it again wouldn't be contradictory
8:28 The right four boxes are all vouching for each other in a chain. They can't all be mimics so none of them are.
10:03 "At least one box of a set that includes me contains a Mimic" is always true, unless there is only one box in the set, which would be self-contradictory. (The actual box has different wording which I find confusing so I simplified it here.) A similar thing happened at 18:53 but Tyler noticed it that time.
13:23 Possession 1, so you already had one...
10:55 I think if the center one was a mimic this would also work
@@Excludos middle one + 2 actual mimics, there is no lies from other boxes in that case, so there could be 3 mimics and it was 50/50 guess
@@Excludos It is possible.
If mimics are in the middle middle, middle right and bottom right everything checks out. The top 2 are safe and that is another solution that he missed making it 50/50 ( or something like that depending on how likely 3 mimics are compared to 2 mimics in random )
@@Excludos you're assuming that the right one is a mimic and then that it tells true. If the right one is a mimic - it lies, so you have not 5 but 3 mimics because top 2 are safe
@@michaelness5606 well @Excludos deleted his comment so I guess he agrees as well ^^. So yea definitely possible that the 2nd option where top 2 are telling the truth and the midle midle, midle right and bottom right are mimic stands. Did not see anyone disputing this yet :).
10:45 the middle box can still be a mimic
yes together with the middle right and bottom right nice catch ;)
This game's really shows the power/importance of proof by contradiction. Really cool game! Would love to see more.
This seems like a really fun series. Would love to see more. Keep up the great work Tyler!
You have been doing Level 1 of each dungeon (at 21:05, I see you did Random Level 1). If you repeat a dungeon, the game offers you higher difficulty levels. If you can, conquer some Level 4 dungeons in the videos, because those are the hardest levels of each dungeon. (Level 5 dungeons have lower difficulty but are much longer in exchange.)
Use Weird med on rooms with enemies, 11:05 Weird med if u get stas up works only for one room. Your attack goes to 32 after drinking it and goes down after u leave the room.
11:00 while you could confirm that the middle right and bottom right boxes were mimics, you couldn't be sure the middle box wasn't. If the middle box were lying, that wouldn't contradict with any of the rules of the truth tellers or the inverse rules of the liars. It was a fifty-fifty whether it was a mimic or not. You got lucky.
1:44 i did NOT expect to see dont starve in an aliensrock video
why would you not expect to see a very popular game as a reference to something he said?
people always gotta feel special lol
it's great to see Aliensrock having lot's of fun with this game you can really tell.
Please do more of this! It’s awesome!
Tyler, right after getting an new weapon
"Smh i need a weapon fr fr"
Pro tip, if youre fighting multiple enemies, and one is at extremely low health, youre better off attacking the other enemy on the off chance that Nasha decides to use magic, which hits all enemies in the room.
I immediately went to buy the game after watching your first video on it and I've been having a blast going through all types of the dungeons. I think you'll enjoy them as well.
Also, you can click and hold to make any action faster, as in chest opening, combat, and consuming candies.
I love this game! Thank you for entertaining us Tyler!
I love this game but also the editing is amazing
wouldn't the middle mimic at 10:55 be a 50/50? bec if it was a mimic then there would be 3 mimics and its statement would be false
i think you are correct. if middle middle, middle right and the bottom right are mimics all 3 are lying. Seams like a valid second solution. So 50/50 indeed he lucked out.
Got lucky at 14:12, both red boxes could have been mimics
True :). They definitely could have been. He got lucky :D. There is a very subtle and important difference between exactly 1 ( there is 1 mimic ) and 1 or more ( a mimic / 1 or more ).
I also wish he did not edit out all the struggle that is the most fun part to see how people think and stumble :D and retrace steps back and forth until everything falls into place but I am sure there are also people who appreciate that videos are not to long.
10:57 you got lucky here. The middle box could have been a mimic as well, making for a total of 3 mimics.
B16 10:02
You got real lucky there, because it was also possible for the centre box to be a mimic and have everything still make sense. I'd have used a crystal ball on it.
Your ability to logic out these puzzles amaze me. I would have been eaten several times over because I struggle to slow down and read things correctly.
Loving this video series!
11:13 medicinal effects dissipate between floors.
I feel like GUT doesn't refer to hunger, but trusting your gut, so to speak. As you spend time figuring out puzzles, you are using said gut. Need to fill it before you can't trust your gut any more and have to go fast and die. (Ironically, from trusting your real life gut as you have to go faster.)
Then why does eating increase your GUT
stress eating lol?@@gamezone2996
@@gamezone2996hmmm some food for thought right there
Yea.. interesting idea but GUT seams to just be what a translator uses as opposite word for hunger. Satiation basically. Your idea stands nicely until the point gamezone pointed out that eating increases it at which point it kind of gets weak.
Shame i like the idea otherwise :D.
I feel like i could take on a gorrilla after 3 ham sandwiches@@gamezone2996
8:50 the way you solved it is the reason you have 1 and 2 markings available, you can just mark them with 1s and 2s and then deduce which one is true and which one is lying
Tyler won a 50/50 at 10:58 , as there is no way to tell if the middle box is a mimic, since there are 1-3 mimics and 4 confirmed non-mimics and 2 confirmed mimics, the middle box could either be telling the truth and not a mimic, or lying and be a mimic with no repercussions elsewhere. (Assuming "2 of these boxes contain a mimic" means the same as "exactly 2 of these boxes contain a mimic", which it does since 12:33 happened)
Tyler also won another 50/50 at 14:11, Because both of the red boxes could have been mimics following similar logic
Your videos are always great and make my afternoons a lot better, thank you Tyler.
10:50 That was actually pure luck. The box in the middle was unsolvable since its either saying the truth and there is two mimics or its lying and it is the third mimic. It basically said "Im not a mimic"
The highlighting is so good.
I really like the editing
10:37 you got lucky there mate.
The middle box could have still been a mimic.
The status of all other boxes were correctly deduced and you had 2 known mimics.
The middle box said that there are 2 mimics in total.
They appear to be telling the truth, however you forgot that that statement would only be true if the middle box wasn't a mimic.
Basically, both the world where the middle box is a mimic, and the world where the middle box isn't the mimic, are viable worlds there.
Just want to point out the black box states only 1 mimic exists, the blue chest should have been fine.
This game is awesome! Looking forward to the other gamemodes
Your commitment to skipping lore and dialogue is rivalled only by my dad, who, when confronted with a cutscene, will simply get up and walk away 😆
Id love to see more!!
10:44 was a risk. The middle box and the box to the right could have both been mimics.
True.
love this series
It's a surprisingly fun game! I can't wait to see more curios mimic's accusations.
I absolutely love this game!
Since all of them can talk, they are all mimics, but only some are hungry.
Oh finally, part 2
These are the most entertaining boxes I've ever watched
For anyone wondering about the new modes:
Robbers: there are robbers that always tell the truth, but steal all your gold when opened.
Number: the chests tell you how many mimics are around it, the mimics have a fake number.
Doubt: mimics now tell the truth, but all normal chests that are the same color as the mimic lie (if a mimic is blue, all non-mimic blues will lie)
Confuse: there are confused chests that will always lie but are safe to open.
I’m assuming that at these dungeons the chests are gonna say things like: “the chest on the right is a robber”.
@@philipgarritsen5162 It does, some that I've found say something like "there is a/no robber among (color) boxes" in the robbers dungeon
@@philipgarritsen5162 yea the chests will claim things about both mimics and robbers giving you less hints on average for each so its kind of tricky. It might be the toughest dungeon overall since very often there is not enough information to do anything smart but there are ways to dissect it.
Robbers actually only steal 100 gold so it is totally worth to open all the safe boxes if you know where the mimics are even if you do not know the location of robbers. you still keep all the gear and get a bonus for opening boxes. my first finished robber run i left way to many boxes unopened and it was super close.
Numbers is basically like a minesweeper with 3x3 field and while most boxes say a number of mimics around them the middle one always ( and sometimes 1 more ) says a normal statement like usual.
In confuse there is always exactly 1 extra liar compared to what you would see on standard. So for puzzles with 1 mimic 1 confuse will be added which always lies but is like you say safe to open, making 2 lairs in total. For puzzles with 2 mimics there will be 3 liars total.
Cheers!
you are ungodly good at this game
Looking forward to the next episodes!
"There's a mimic among my group" is an excellent way to clear yourself
I love this concept
10:56 if I understand the wording correctly, the middle could've logically been either a mimic or not, all the external boxes are solved with two mimics, none of the boxes directly mention the center box, so you have to use whether it's lying or not, but there's no way of knowing if it was lying without using an ability or risking a guess, this is because there are 2 mimics with the box in the center unknown. If the center box is a mimic then everything is fine, there can be 3 mimics, and it would mean there aren't exactly 2 mimics since the box stating that is a mimic, which if fine because there are now 3 mimics. If the center box isn't a mimic then everything is also fine, there are 2 mimics which is allowed, and there are exactly 2 mimics left, so there's no way to deduce if the center box is a mimic or not. If "2 of these boxes contains a mimic" actually means "At least 2..." this would solve the current puzzle, but the next puzzle would've been unsolvable which proves that not all puzzles can be entirely deduced.
You've reached the end of the dungeon. In the center of the room lies a large golden treasure chest! Your reach down to pry it open, then pause when the chest suddenly speaks: "This box is a mimic."
Really love this series!
Also, you shouldn't waste the durability of a good weapon if you can already kill the enemy with a weaker one.
At 10:55 there could be a configuration of the mimics that would screw you up: center, right, bottom right. Here's how I solved it:
Let's suppose boxes on the top are 2 mimics supporting each other. This would make bottom right a mimic as well, so we would have 3 mimics already and the center would be lying, making it 4 mimics, which is impossible. It means the initial assumption of 2 mimics on the top is wrong, and the top 2 are not mimics. This makes right box a mimic, so left box isn't a mimic and bottom right is a mimic, so bottom left isn't a mimic. Now we have 2 mimics: right and bottom right. If center is a mimic, there would be 3 mimics and the center would be lying, proving it's a mimic. However, if center is NOT a mimic, the statement would be correct, proving it's NOT a mimic. Therefore, there's not enough information to identify the center box, and you just got lucky it wasn't a mimic.
0:23 "The top row has at least one mimic" from a chest in top row - it is automatically true. Any chest that claims that a group it belongs to has mimics is saying truth, because if it is a mimic, it makes its statement true, resulting in contradiction, as mimics always lie.
What helps me during the "Is a mimic"/"Isn't a mimic" hints is to think of it like this:
Is Mimic: 1 mimics (XOR)
Isn't Mimic: 0 or 2 mimics (XNOR)
10:50 the box in the middle could also be a mimic. That is a brain fart risky play.
I think the weapons work literally the way they say. they add the TOTAL value of your attack+4(Kukri), so if you have 10 attack, equip the Kukri, you add 14 attack to your stats. 10+4
One thing that Tyler seems to be missing (at least early in the video) is if a mimic in the bottom row say "the bottom row has at least 1 mimic" then it must be telling the truth. Same with top row saying top row, left say left and right saying right.
And the same rules apply if a colored box says there is a mimic among boxes of it's color.
8:28 has a peculiarity with the wording. A chest that says "The box on the left isn't a Mimic." is actually referring not to the box to the furthest left, but the box left from me. I assumed it was referring to the left-most box (thus in the middle row), because otherwise it would've used the same wording as all the other boxes that say "from me".
10:58 is a risk because nothing else confirmed the middle chest was good. the only proof was that there were 2 mimics but if it was also a mimic it would have been lying.
at 18:03 you didnt have to equip a new weapon, your fist damage wouldve been enough, could save durability from equipping only weapons with lower strength where its needed
4:40 Without any other information, the bottom middle one must be true. If it was false, then it would be a mimic, which would mean that the bottom has at least 1 mimic and thus the statement is true. Therefore, it must always be true in all circumstances.
By the way i notice you ignore some of the people in the town, the farmer gives you tips, but the others can let you gamble your money, or improve durability, or other things
"I am a mimic."
Great video 👍
Right before 3:33 there was have to be a mimic among the it had to be the one that said to boxes to mimic, because that means if was true, that would make it false cause it’s a mimic and by default so that means it’s required to be true for it to be forced at the same time so it’s false
I’m loving this game
21:22 "Yay, harder puzzles"
You can equip other gear in the gear tab to avoiding wasting low durability stuff like the flare gun
10:49 The box in the center could have been a mimic because if it were, it would have been the third mimic, itself.
A trick for harder levels, Tyler - if you have more damage than you need to kill an enemy, and more than one weapon, it can help save durability on your best gear to switch to your weaker weapons
EDIT: 12:46 - Tyler straight up forgets he has a spare weapon... my man......
There are different levels on the same difficulty, the last one you get to play 100 floors
confusion is VERY hard, good luck whenever you get to it
Every time you get to a new puzzle I pause to see if I can solve it on my own, and I’m very proud to say I’ve always come to the same conclusions you do. Do I do it faster? I don’t think so, but I get there eventually
Love watching you play this game. I hate doing the actual logical thinking.
0:00 Bye guys, Tyler there
At 19:10 the bottem left could be a mimic because if he was a mimic there would be 2 mimics in bottem row so he would be lying
Hey Tyler, just wanted to let you know that if you talk to Nehsa in the overworld, she can give you some useful tips about deducting mimics. There's a few tips that will definitely help you deduce quicker and more efficiently, so I highly recommend you check out what she says.
1 mimic:
"It's the 3rd, if I'm the 1st"
"Phrase below me was said by a Mimic"
"I am not a Mimic"
"Phrase Above me is said by a mimic"
"There are only 1 false statement"
"The mimic is vouching for itself"
"It's seriously obvious"
Tyler is a mimic
The editors are not mimics
😈
The 50/50 at 3:13 isn't a 50/50. Mimics HAVE to lie.(Otherwise this game would be much less fun anyways.)
The Upper Chest said, There is a Mimic among the bottom row, which is true.
The Bottom Chest said, there is no mimic among the bottom row, which is false.
Therefore, the bottom chest is a mimic, the top chest was safe.
Okay but suppose that the upper chest says There is a Mimic among the bottom row, which is false.
And the bottom chest says there is no mimic among the bottom row, which is true.
There is nothing that distinguishes your scenario from mine
Tyler has no way of knowing which scenario he is in.
RPG maker games have a lot of variety and creativity in how they play.
