Two television ICONS. One is ready with a quick laugh, then lays down the cold hard facts about Hollywood...the other is actually interested in the person he interviews...and his humor is so dry, it's almost sarcasm...!

I used to have that same dress Carol is wearing! I loved it, it was from a shop that sold clothing and jewelry from India, and always smelled like patchouli. It's where all the hippy chicks shopped!
I remember watching the movie they mentioned, "Friendly Fire", and that it was good but disturbing and no one in my family liked seeing Carol in a sad role. We never missed her show, always watched it together and laughed. When they did the "Gone With the Wind" skit, I'd never heard my parents laugh so hard. I loved her mop bucket lady, those were sweet skits that always tugged at my heart.
I feel sorry for those who are unable to grok her comedic genius. She was a great Broadway star, too!

There’s the pretentious myth that serious acting is superior to comedy, but being a comedian is far harder and needs more talent than acting. Comedians can always do serious acting, it’s easy. Also, the “serious” dramatic movies often look terrible 20 years later, but the comedies survive. Even silent comedies are funny, but the dramas usually don’t work.

Thank you to whomever(s) posting archival footage. The Pre-Code era is my favorite, and television interviews of the stars aren’t easy to track down. When I came upon bootleg copies of interviews with Bette Davis, Katharine Hepburn and Mae West many years ago, I found myself enjoying Mr.Cavett’s interview style as much as the stars themselves and wished to see more footage of the show.
This TH-cam channel fulfilled that wish and in so doing, introduced me to more of the greats. I appreciate the work of the individuals uploading segments with descriptive titles and the ownership entities that approved of the content being shared.
Also, a tip of the hat to Mr.Cavett for not falling out of his chair when Barbara (Seagull) Hershey brought out a child and then a breast.

sounded like Carol wasn't a fan of Dick Cavett one bit.
but I didn't know the man personally, and when these shows
aired I was just a little kid, so probably any snarkiness , or
misagyny on his part, most likely went over my head back then.

I think the movie that they were in together that they refer to at the beginning was 'A Wedding' (1978). Like many Robert Altman films, it had a large ensemble cast.

do have nothing against the other celebs that were on this show but is this channel ever going to show the Dick Cavett shows where he interviews Jackie Gleason or Art Carney? How about any Honeymooners actors that were part of the main cast? These are rarities much like all the other Dick Cavett shows.

It's much less a comment about anything Dick did wrong and more about the hyper-chronic ridiculousness of cancel culture itself. But I meant his subtle inferences about her "becoming" deeper (with a subtext of "you were more shallow prior"), and his reference to "a woman of a certain age". Nothing actually offensive or provocative, as you say; just comments that would have the wokie bullies after him in our mentally ill times. Have a nice day, Jade.
