This Tuna was MASSIVE!!

- In this episode of BlacktipH, Josh catches a massive Bluefin Tuna in North Carolina, the biggest tuna he has ever caught! Josh went fishing with Captain Jack and Joe from Afishionado Charters out of Oregon Inlet. Within less than five minutes of deploying our baits, both reels hooked a giant Bluefin Tuna! After a half-hour fight, the first fish pulled the hook. Josh tried fighting the second first, and about an hour into the fight, the hooked pulled! Emotions were very high! About an hour later, Josh hooked the third Bluefin of the day! After a three-hour fight, the team brought the fish boat side, and Josh jumped in the water with the giant tuna. After taking a few quick photos, Josh and Joe released the monster Bluefin Tuna. Captain Jack estimated this tuna to be between 700-800 pounds!

That is a top notch charter captain. Doesn’t dwell on the lost fish, just gets baits rights back out and moves on to the next one with a smile on his face. And the specialized knowledge of the species? Great stuff.

Man, Huge respect for Josh for releasing a huge Bluefin Tuna like that. There numbers are severely decreasing year by year and what a great example Josh is setting!!
pretty sure the season is closed so it goes back whether they wanted it to or not.

@@sprolyborn2554 Here in California I believe theres no "Season" for Tuna fishing. I know Josh Lives in FL so I dont know the regulations there. In the past 10 years the tuna population has dropped 97%... Look it up

Great video Josh! We weny Out on our 35 foot boat and hooked one between 800 and 900 lbs 25 miles offshore.He ripped our gunnel off, took 4 men to hold it down and keep it from flying away. Broke him off right by the boat, but it didn’t matter because we got leader and we were going to release the giant anyway.

@@jjsfishing8226 Their mortality after catch and release is only around 4% according to a fairly recent paper published in 2011, every additional 2 and a half minutes of fight time after ~30min(the mean fight time of 60 fish caught) minutes increase the mortality % by an additional 1%. So it really depends how long Josh fought this fish and how much time they spent reviving it.
By the looks of it, they didn't spend enough time reviving the fish by the side of the boat, and chances are it was crushed by those mako sharks that were swimming around under the boat.
So sad, blue fin are on the brink of extinction too 😢
I am familiar with the look Josh gave the captain when he lost the 2nd fish. It's a" "I want to blame somebody, but I know these things sometimes happen" sort of face.
