Yup. Tech N9ne uses this all the time. He is a metal fan afaik, and he has made a lot of metal inspired track as well as collaborated with metal acts, but I have no idea if he does this because he listens to metal. I wouldn't be surprised though.
I am actually a metal drummer and I have looked at rap music as a way to inspire fills. In the past jamming along to really interesting flow sections has been a great help for me. We have so many creative people out there, and even if we come from different genres we can still all inspire each other. Great to see it's a two way street.
I do the same as a drum teacher. Rap instrumentals can used as a great tool to help students develop creativity and improv. I have my students envision they are a rapper writing a song on the snare. They have to ride the beat and understand the value of space between notes. This technique is helpful because many drummers get overwhelmed with all the tools they've developed at their disposal. Also if any drummers are reading this- use phonk instrumentals from record labels like Always Proper to practice Stick Control (or any rudimental excerises) to. You'll be able to turn that ADHD 2 minutes normally spent on an excerise into 2 hours before getting bored.
I absolutely was NOT ready for such a intricate breakdown of the theory/anatomy of a rap song, especially when the finished product seemed so raw and organic. That was hard. The algorithm put you on my radar & I feel like I owe it money now. SUBSCRIBED

As a metal guitar player I’ve never thought about how similar the two genres are, I’ve always enjoyed harmonically dense or band centered rap songs (like devil in a new dress and i by kanye west and Kendrick lamar respectively) but seeing the rhythmic nuances getting used in more thrash and groove styles in s rap context really expanded my view
You just unlocked a new skill for me I’ve been playing guitar for years and considered any rapping I did to be syllable, and rhyme based. Now each conjoining word or rhyme will match up like a chord pattern. Thank you you beautiful bastard
Ive never known any rap artist to be legitimately musically inclined. Usually they just get someone else to make the most basic beats imaginable with totally uninspired lyrics, i find it to be incredibly rare to find a rap artist that is multi-talented that doesnt just rap, or write, but has a functional understanding of musical structure in songs. You my friend, have GOT IT!!!

This short had a full beginning, middle, and end, and you didn't skip any relevant part of the process and you showed the final product (instead of putting it into a new short!) I wish I could learn more about how to write my own rap. But I struggle with inspiration...

Rhythm AND Poetry. That's how it was supposed to be. As a drummer, these are the things that make me relate to all styles of music! I've heard plenty of rappers whom utilize the lyrical feature of a snare solo on their parts in songs! It's amazing!

Stunning as always. I'd also like to hear you rap the basic metal guitar rhythm from the start of the vid, but not within a metal-rap context as that's been done quite a few times (and often - imo - in a non-interesting way) 🧡

Straight gas, if I may. Something that would be sick is if when you switch between the lyrical to the instrumental portion of the song you could raise the volume of that choir just a bit and add a little more in the lower range and get like a Latin catholic chant kinda sound before dropping the metal riff and going with that for a bit before starting the next phrase.
Sick video and nice thinking outside the box. I teach drums and make beats myself. There's a an old school book I teach rhythms out of called Syncopation For The Modern Drummer by Ted Reed.
