Rawtherapee - Basic Raw Processing

This video shows some basic steps to process your raw files with Rawtherapee. This should be enough 95% of the time to get good results.

You want to do edits locally? That is not possible in the official release. It works just globally. BUT there is a so called Local Lab version in development which allows for local edits. You can find it here: keybase.pub/gaaned92/RTW64NightlyBuilds/
It is the one with "newlocallab" in the name.
Can you do a tutorial on RawTherapee's LAB adjustments/curves, if you haven't already?

Great tutorial. I am new to Raw Therapee but I wasn't satisfied with the 'sharpen only edges' option. It certainly did sharpen the edges very nicely. But it also made after areas in the image soft and mushy. Quite a lot of detail was lost.
That intro gets a sub! 🤣👏 Didn't see it coming!

Well Done! Clear and concise, thank you so much, this video quickly gave me what I needed to understand how to use the basic tools. After seeing how drab my RAW photos looked initially in Rawtherapee, I was thrilled to be able to use the same tools you demonstrated, and in a few minutes produce a JPG that was much better than even the out-of-camera JPG.

...THANKs ...where can i find great Presets/Profiles for improving my pictures (with a little sharpening, color improvment, light etc.) ...i am not a PRO , but i also want to improve Family pictures a little. Not picture by picture, but a whole folder!
There's presets in RT you can use. And you can also aply them to multiple images.

Why I can't adjust the final photo dimension... It is automatically saved his desired dimension... can you guide me? How can I set it to manual adjust of dimension
I don't know exactly what you want to do, but you should find everything you need in the transform tab. There's the "crop" tool and the "resize" tool. They are pretty self explanatory, but if you want to read up on them you can find info here:

How to compare what we are doing with the original image? How can I toggle between my editing and the original RAW image? No tutorial is saying this.
Around 1:51 I show the left panel. There you can find the "history". It contains all the processing steps. There you can go to the beginning (before any prcessing was done) to see the original raw file.
The easiest way would be to add a snapshot of the raw file after you open it (also on the left panel at the bottom). Then you could always switch back to the raw and by clicking the last step in the history (or adding another snapshot of you current processing) you could compare them.

hey I have a question so when editing my photos and I do auto levels in the exposure tab, it doesn't do a good job if anything it always blows it out, does it have to do with the original settings I used to shoot my photo?
It shouldn't, unless your original settings where such that everything is blownout already. I have no good answer. Please go to the rawtherapee forum (discuss.pixls.us/c/software/rawtherapee) and ask there. The developers are there and can surely answer your question.
It shouldn't always be off in the same direction; it's making educated guesses based on algorithms expecting certain sorts of average scene distributions. A moody dark cloudy scene needs to remain darker, and bluer than a sunny one, and the system will usually exaggerate brightness; also, auto tends to always shift predominant color hues towards their compliments. As long as the monitor is calibrated, adjusting for mood and overall sense of accuracy, then making aesthetic or artistic tweaks within reason, is a good overall work flow approach. Advanced controls can expand detail within dark shadows, reduce bleached out highlight areas, as well.

LOL - don't try "correcting" curved lines on your Parthenon shots - there's nary a straight line anywhere on that monumental edifice. The Greeks were so advanced, they understood how we actually don't often see straight lines at all, any more than a fisheye lens does. Every lens including our eyes', will produce a curve from a straight line unless the line intersects precisely in the center of the image/planar tangent to the lens. Such applied "corrections" to images are useful to architectural renderings and such, but presuming this is a necessary procedure for every image is a mistake.

This is really poor it seems like you don't start from the beginning.
In the description I mention that I start in the "neutral" mode. This used to be the default startup preset but has been since changed.
