  • Join me on this tour of Dreamland in Kent, one of the oldest and most underrated amusement parks in the UK. Based in the quirky seaside town of Margate, it’s a great day out for all the family - with vintage funfair rides, street food, amusements, festival days, DJ nights, art installations and even a roller disco rink!
    Not to mention the historical significance - it’s home to the oldest surviving rollercoaster in the UK, The Scenic Railways which is over 100 years old!
    After closing down for over a decade, in the Summer of 2015 Dreamland reopened after a rejuvenation - it’s back and better than ever! Come along and see what it’s all about in this 4K walking tour! If you’re looking for things to do or places to go this summer, Dreamland should be top of your list!
    My name is Jack and I’m exploring the UK, making travel vlogs as I go. I’d be so grateful for your support, so please do like the video, leave a comment and subscribe to my channel here - / @jackryanmiller

    The events seem to keep it in the press, not always for the most positive reasons but on a sunny day it looks great, shame the residents of those flats didn't like the rides actually!

      I’ve seen this year they’ve managed to get some really big music acts there so hopefully it stays in business. Although as you say a bit of bad press recently 🙁

    Used to go there as a kid in the late 70s and 80s as a kid, day trips from London, it was a magical place, Mary Rose, looping star etc, it’s iconic, so glad it’s come back from the dead.

    Went a few times in the 80s, when it was known as Bembom Brothers, and had some classic rides like Mary Rose and Looping Star. Always thought the entrance down the side-alley was weird.

    It’s become far too expensive since they did away with the wristbands. You would buy a wristband to enter and then all the rides were included. It’s such a disappointment now as it’s now £5.00 pp just to ride the scenic railway. So a family of four would spend a fortune there now. It never gets as busy as it used to now as the rides are so expensive when you have to pay for each ride individually. That’s why they’ve started up the music venues which are so packed and dangerous that there are always people getting crushed as there’s no real structure to them. I’ve lived here for over 30 years now and have only been once since they made it free entry as it’s so disappointing. It’s such a shame.

    • @jackryanmiller
      @jackryanmiller  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes that is a shame I guess the prices are going up because it’s so expensive to keep it all running. Should definitely bring back the wristbands and have the rollercoaster included

    The place has changed since I was there over 45 years ago or more. Remember there was The Haunted House and Spinning wheels where you were pinned to the walls. And the place had a few other great rides some probably destroyed in the fire or perhaps just unsafe for today's health and safety organisations
    There was a great ice cream vendor food shop cafe and a museum of sorts of oddities inside the hall at the front entrance and nearby from Dreamland was a waxwork museum guess that has all gone? And some famous people worked in Dreamland and one belief is Emu and Rod Hul before he was famous that is and Jim Davidson appeared in Margate and I think he worked there as a teenager. And many others.

    My Friends and I used to come to Margate every Bank Holiday in the 1970s and 1980s specifically
    to ride the Coaster because it’s a “Woodie” and they are the best Coasters period!
    You are a Braver man than I am Mate, we went one bank holiday and had a “Few” Sherbets” and so
    I did the Big Wheel.
    We came back the next weekend and stupidly I went on the Wheel ago before any Beers with a Mate and to be honest I was Freaking out because of my Vertigo which must be worse than Yours.
    Never again 😵‍💫
    Did they still have the Rotor ride where you all stand next to each other and when it starts it spins very fast and the floor falls away and you are Stuck to the Wall.

    • @jackryanmiller
      @jackryanmiller  22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Ahh ain’t it funny how the scariest rides are actually the family friendly ones and not the coasters ha ha. I wish I had a few sherbets before making the video 🤪sadly they don’t have that rotor ride anymore but I’ve been on one before at a local fair, and won’t be going on one again 🫣

    Dreamlands not underrated but it is the most disappointing theme park in uk for anyone who has grown up with it. It’s half its former size from the glory days. There is rarely a day when all the rides are open. The events they run there are poorly executed. Think the whole place needs a new management if it wants to stay open for the long term.

    • @jackryanmiller
      @jackryanmiller  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’m sad to hear that. I’m comparing it to my experience of first seeing it in 2014 when it was empty apart from the scenic railway so obviously it’s looking so much better now, but I would’ve loved to see it in the glory days.
