They are using large brushes. It's very common, especially in jazz, to use brushes in the place of drumsticks or mallets to give the drums a much softer sound.
Of course they are playing with pasta... fettuccini to be accurate, and the one at the right hand side is sitting on a massive chunk of mozzarella cheese while grinding it.
Love DR strings, only ones I'll use. Hi beams, sunbeams, lo riders, acoustic. Those colored strings though... sound dead right out of the box. Lol, I still buy them from time to time cause they look so awesome.
The DR Neon can sound really good. Search "Wanda Wilda That's What I Like" above, she uses them on her G&L 2500, it's probably the best I've heard them sound.
With my first set of black coated DR's, I had the same problem. But after using them again I realized that I had cut the D & G strings a bit too short, just below the "anchor" point. Not hard to do. Since I have changed the length, they sound brilliant, and stay that way for much longer than average. I love the feel, sound, and longevity of DR, personally. Hope this helps.
+Tom Parks Noted, I'll check that out. Appreciate the advice. I think I've tried all colors so far on my bass, I was thinking color combos now (red and white mix match for xmas gig)

+G Indeed. I stand corrected. She defiantly has a great signal chain with good ol' DR tone. Thanx)

Very fine "piece", Guitarist and bassist are fine player, but TWO percussionists for this "combo" are absolutely too many, one was more than enough.
