Alto Choir Part Practice: "Virga Jesse" by Anton Bruckner . Composed in 1885, it is one of Bruckner's most famous pieces, and one of his last works for choir. The text of Virga Jesse floruit is based on Isaiah 11, "A shoot will spring from the stock of Jesse," announcing the advent of a Messianic king in the lineage of Jesse , father of King David. It textually and musically exemplifies the message of Advent: God's promise of redemption through the incarnation of His Son.
