  • Critics argue that a new wave of colonialism is sweeping across the African continent. They say that foreign direct investments and aid rob Africa of its economic independence under the guise of development. But are Europeans and the Chinese really to blame for Africa's problems? Edith Kimani met with young residents in the Kenyan capital Nairobi to find out what they think.

When we complain that our coffee is not getting enough value in the international market ...well have we tried value addition on that coffee? Or are we just exporting roast beans????? I would like to imagine a conversation whereby you tell the German investor to pay more for that coffee just because...If he's a charity organization he might agree but a savy businessman will just go and buy his coffee somewhere else, however if we ground that coffee ,processed it or whatever process we do for value addition the negotiations are much better...good business is only done when you consider each other's mutual interests.

I find it hypocritical to blame all of Europe (50+) countries for the actions of 13 or less that actually had colonies and colonial empires.
Not only that, but a lot of cental and eastern countries have suffered themselves tremendously under invading empires.
To have the people getting interviewed throw around generalist terms like "white people" or Europeans tells me that they aren't interested in having an honest and fair discussion, they just want someone to blame for the failure of their government and communities.
One thing I am absolutely sure of, is that a better future for everyone wonbe built on changing perceived double standards with different ones.
Treat others the way you want to be treated.

African leaders have long taken aid and avoided putting in the hard work it takes to develop. The problem started during the slave trade when Africa began to selling their people for good and products. As time went on more African people were being shipped, the weaker Africa became. This allowed other countries to come in and take land position. And whatever goods they traded for, they did not use it to educate or built up theirs countries.

I love this reporter's energy, and the fact that she disclosed that she was now with German owned media - I love her format of trying to give people and opportunity to speak, and I love her "Donahue" format of going from person to person. One of the respondents, Tony, the guy with the blond dreds is getting on my nerves - he's clearly delusional - he is so brainwashed, I fear the hair color has penetrated his brains. I think she should and could have developed the Chinese invasion and abuse of Kenya a lot more deeply - but it appeared as though every time it was brought up she pulled the mike away much too soon. I truly hope Kenya is now ready to resolve the Neo-colonial invasion of China and the re-invasion of eruope - it's time to bite the bullet and kick them all out, and go solo - I.e. without depending on the white uberstructure. Stay Blessed & ECLECTICALLY BLACK - Gloria Dulan-Wilson

Tony is delusional. You never give in and except being colonized. You let that realization strengthen you and then channel that anger, let it reinforce and guide your passion for change. Not hold it's hand smiling. Like the lady said!! It's not about the individual, it's about everyone. In any struggle the weak will have to be separated.

Africa has been on foreign aid longer than most Canadian/British taxpayers have been born. This while exsoldiers and the mentality handicapped live, sleep and die on the bitterly cold streets of Canada. Our Canadian politicians and bureaucrats on their way to work, stepped over the homeless. Let that sink in. Why? Enquiring minds need to know.

I don't like the way the interview has been ended, and the conclusion that was made at the end. This topic is a very deep one, and cannot and should not be treated so lightly and so casually and left hanging there in the middle of nowhere, with no real idea or perception on how one should confront this situation that Africa is in.

Me thinks ending the use of the word NeoColonialism please.
Why not fit Coaching and Collaboration from a trustworthy Economic Partner to build a better, if not best workable model to build wealth and strength for your country.
Nation building is a long process. It builds confidence and strength in your hearts and minds to build a country you want to be proud of.
