Am I the only person that loved this version of Buffy. When the series came out I had to warm up to Sarah playing the role. Both ladies did a good job. I kinda want a new Buffy movie or series.
There is a rumor there going to reboot it as a tv series again with a black Buffy. I am all for having more black women on TV but I don't think they should change her race. Just like Human Torch in that God Awful Fantastic Four movie. Give black people new creative rules not changing a character to be black. That's like changing Batman to a black man.

Niki L this came waaaay before the series and was actually the inspiration for Whedon's Buffy. They allude to it all the time in the first season when Buffy talks about burning down her old school's gym and getting expelled.

Paul Reuben's Amilyn had one of the best dying gags of all time.
Honestly this trailer caught me, I know the show's a hit and I agree, but watching this trailer gave me a feeling that the movie is gonna be the mix of teen, comedy, and action, and it's from the 90's, a time where movies like this were the bombs
I was surprised that Buffy The Vampire Slayer was actually a movie right before this title became a TV Show that targeted both teenagers and adults! : )
It was 5-years in between the two. We personally love the movie.

Well, I watched the Buffy movie when it first came out, and then watched the TV show.

This movie would have been 10 times better if it had been directed by Joss Whedon. But it's still a lot of fun, it's a comedy, and a lot of it still works. You should just avoid comparing it to the tv show. And I love Pike.

Possible, but I guess most improvements came from fan reactions to the movie itself. The producers and the team had taken those serious, at least at the start of the series. So choosing the Side Cick of Buffy; Alyson Hannigan was great in her role as Buffies friend. She had brought in her own kind of witty humor. Regrettably I can´´t find the test filming on TH-cam with another candidate for the Willow role. Was quite interesting because that young woman had been totaly intimidated by ther task other than Alxson Hannigan.

THE real Pilot of Buffy is a lucky charme to me. On the day when I had studied in California the pilot of Buffy and the Fall of the Wall were broadcasted on the same day on the station I hadwatched back then.

Did I just see Giles as a vampire? Wow! I grew up on the series never realizing there was a movie first. I confess of all the possibilities I didn't expect to see vampire Giles!
No it's Rutger Hauer (Bladerunner) who plays the vampire king, that angle he really did look like Anthony Head tho!
The problem with the film was is they didn’t take it seriously enough.
This is more of a guilty pleasure while The Show is more of a classic

I actually watched this movie in tv first and have been a fan since a kid and to my surprise a few years later, in my teen years, they made a tv show.
This was good movie for 90's but tv show was so much better.. Sarah is perfect Buffy and sorry thanks to her Buffy has been best show ever..
The show is lame. The movie is a silly parody that at least doesn't take itself too seriously

Despite claiming he was cut from the movie, Seth Green does appear in it, although it is just for three seconds, and for two of them he is seen from behind. He is the short red-haired vampire that gets kicked by Buffy outside the gym when a group of vampires, including him, are taunting her. You can recognize him by his haircut alone.
Buffy's last name is never mentioned in the movie. Not until the release of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997) was she referred to as Buffy Summers.
On March 4, 2019, the day that Luke Perry died, Joss Whedon tweeted, "The first time I met Luke Perry we talked about what kind of movie we wanted 'Buffy' to be. I asked if he'd ever seen 'Near Dark' and he gave me a look of HOW DARE YOU SIR and I knew we'd get along. Funny, committed, and always gracious. He shouldn't be gone."

Most of the film's characters (heroes, villains, and supporting cast) never received a last name. Nearly everyone is mentioned only by first name throughout the film.

Buffy is a senior at Hemery High School in this movie, two years older than the Buffy of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997), who starts at Sunnydale High School as a sophomore.
Buffy's "dress" boots for the dance are white hi top boxing boots with strips of white muslin for laces.
The original script by Joss Whedon was heavily re-written to make this movie "lighter". In the original script, Buffy burns down the school gym in which the dance is being held, in an effort to destroy the vampires. In Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997), this fact is referred to several times, as the series is seen as a spin-off of the original, unproduced screenplay, rather than this movie.
On the back of the DVD cover is a picture of Grueller (Sasha Jenson) screaming as he is about to be bitten by a vampire. This scene does not appear anywhere in the movie. When Grueller is later seen to be a vampire at the basketball game, it is implied that Amilyn (Paul Reubens) is the one that changed him

I can’t believe this was the original before the Sarah Michelle Gellar series
The version of the script that Joss Whedon sold to the studio was written much more straight horror/action. The one liners were there, but in minute doses. Whedon had intended to direct the picture himself but stepped away from the project over conflicts with the studio when they made the decision to lose the straight horror aspects and play the film as a comedy.
This Buffy was more like early Cordelia meets Faith than Buffy in the series.
Interestingly I think SMG actually was trying out to be Cordelia when they hired her for Buffy instead.
What's funny is the tv series has a much bigger following and is more popular, but anytime I make a video featuring the movie, Fox deletes it for copyright material. But I can make as many videos I want featuring the tv series.

Yeah, he did a disservice to this movie and "phoned in" most of his performance. He was embarrassed to be in a movie titled "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." So unprofessional.
I liked the show, but it took me some time to adjust to the darker tone that it took. This feels more in line with what one imagines when reading the title "Buffy the Vampire Slayer".

Joss Whedon said the TV series is a soft reboot and he was originally aiming for. They allude in the first episodes that the events of the movie did happen.
We get to see Merrick in the TV show briefly. But Pike is sadly never seen or even mentioned.
Actually no. He says the movie is a standalone production due to the fact the producers changed his script to be less like what he wanted to do. The closest the movie can get of being canonical is through the comic "The Origin", though it still uses certain elements from the TV show
Most rather watch the tv series.
But the original film itself is a whole lot of fun.

I'm going to watch this movie, but I'm always going to see Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy and Kristy Swanson as Marlowe (I'm 14, so I didn't see 90's movies regularly)
My sister let me see this movie as a kid and I legit had nightmares. I cant wait to rewatch and get over my childhood fear. The bad vamps were so creepy

I love the tv series, but after i saw the movie, i think kristy swanson is the most suitable artist plays buffy, she has a strong character. I really like the way she plays the character of buffy..
+WOng JV I love both :) in very different ways. I couldn't imagine Kristy Swanson not play Buffy in the movie and i couldn't imagine Sarah Michelle Gellar not playing Buffy in the TV show. I hope that makes senser

You're obviously not a big Buffy fan. SMG didn't just play that character, she MADE it. You don't realize that a lot of the changes and certain Buffy qualities were made based upon Sarah's contribution and suggestions. When she felt Buffy wouldn't act or say something written in the script she would have it known. Every actor has to be good to play a role (that's their job!) but not every character is made for the actor no matter how good their acting is. It's easy to pick up a scene, get the sassy attitude and read your lines with a bunch of people behind you telling you how and what to say. Sarah did a lot of her own stunts and has a black belt, she was so into her character she even cried on Angel episode I'll remember you and David (Angel) accidently says "It's okay, don't cry Sarah" instead of Buffy, because Sarah realized those characters would never be together. A true actor feels the emotions of their character, they don't just play it. And claiming she had a few years to adjust to it is a bullshit excuse, considering so many actors get emotional and crazy over their movie roles. Kristy just wasn't made for Buffy and she knew that herself
