I think toxic mist is good for that, but it can be used more creatively. Toxic mist can block an entire push if used in the right spots. Certain routes that include jumping can be blocked by the toxic mist since the carrier for the rainmaker is slowed down to the point that they can’t make the jump.

It's ok to move backwards sometimes. Backing up and trying to regroup when you're completely outmatched can be good, but only move back a little; too much and you're just giving the enemy ground. Also, when you're winning AND there's 30 seconds on the clock AND your team is completely overwhelming the other team, you can grab the rainmaker and run backwards so the other team can't get to it. This ends the game more quickly instead of going into overtime, so it's kind of a mercy kill.

a tip i have, the RM shield is effected by object shredder, for most weapons that is an extra 10% damage on the RM, and it applies to your sub and special as well, there is very few reasons to not bring object shred into RM, it can make a sizeable difference

SaintValiance Cyborchan is text to speech for multiple reasons, the main one being her stream self. She reads comments and donations and the easiest way is to just use the built in TTS I WOULD like a VA for her but unfortunately an actual VA would not be available for every stream I do, and my upload schedule is pretty often and hectic so I dont have time to play "wait for lines"
Does the TTS format you have going on for her ever limit your script for her, or can you get away with any sentence flowing out of her naturally? I'd imagine some of these Splatoon weapon names coming out kinda awkwardly.
Sometimes the quickest route to the pedestal is not the best option. Try and stay alive with the rainmaker and take the safest path (unless your in overtime) and if your team is covering you, it should normally get you much closer to the pedestal. Constantly dying over and over will not help your team. It will constantly become a 3v4 and the odds are the enemy team will win.
They got a buff, they can target the rain maker itself now and the missles land around opponents, so even if they try to run and dodge enemies could still get splatted.
My tip for playing rainmaker is: If you have the rainmaker, its a good strategy to throw your shots at your feet. It makes enemies around you run away, or explode them. Only pickup the rainmaker if nobody else will. Its a big risk, so its sometimes better to play support. If your teammates are nowhere around you, let the other team take the rainmaker, so you can just kill them after they take it. Theres many styles to playing with a rainmaker. The defensive, where you try to protect yourself with the rainmaker, (you dont get far, tho.) The offensive, you try to kill all enemies you see, (leaves you vulnerable and sometimes might hold you back,) And the pusher, you just push through, only really shoot ahead, (this gets you closer much quicker, but leaves you vulnerable. It gets a big amount of kills though.) Those are my tips.
lol in Splatoon 1 i mained the aerospray rg. The original ink mines were deadly. I camped on top of the pillar in blackbelly skate park, using mainly ink mines, and got 13 kills. That was the most I had ever gotten in Splatoon 1.
(DISCLAIMER: I'm a charger user) Well... to be fair, if you pump up the Curling Bomb rush to the max on bonuses, the Aerospray becomes quite useful for RM, since you burst the bubble quickly, pave a straight line for the RM to instantly follow and have a barrage of curling bombs to throw off incoming enemies. You still need protection from the sides, but that 1 single Aerospray user has just solved half the match if you've got good enough teamwork going on.
As someone who's pretty good at turf war but just can't make the transition to ranked mode, this really helped! Please make more of these if you ever feel inspired to!
Unless you have god like aim, I try to kind of spam the rn for added pressure to the enemy team. The rainmaker is not fast enough to kill enemy squids/octos unless you get a direct hit. It also helps your team by inking and applying pressure.
For those who really don't take the rainmaker often, you forgot to add a pretty big thing: holding it slows you down by QUITE A LOT, and is why you shouldn't move backwards, since the distance you're losing is just more time wasted getting back to. Also, a note for those who wants to dedicate themselves in holding the rainmaker, Run Speed Up and Swim Speed Up DOES affect your speed with the rainmaker.
Rainmaker ranks are basically: C ranks: no one on your team knows what their doing but the other team ALWAYS knows what their doing B ranks: If you got to b ranks you were probably the only person on your team in c ranks who knew what they were doing. You think that you’re going to carry the team, but everyone else thinks that THEY will carry your team. There is zero teamwork because everyone is used to carrying their teams in c ranks. A ranks and onward: People actually seem to know what their doing, this is when the mode really gets fun. Everyone has a fair understanding of what roles they have to fill and how to cooperate with one another (mostly).
Actually if you're winning and you have the rainmaker and there are 20 seconds left, it is suggested to do so, because you don't have to confront the enemy team, and e en if you run out of time, if the enemy team doesn't pick up the rainmaker before the match ends, they lose. Also if you're following a teammate and they die, it is suggested to retreat, or you could die. You can wait for the rest of your team to come, or you can follow another path that they create.
I noticed that you posted a lot of helpful hints and I would like to add that if you play support (heavy weapons or kill heavy weapons), it's a great idea to wear the respawn punisher buff and focus on kills if you can. Taking opponents down with the buff will give them massive special and respawn penalties that can be devastating if you have a high body count on average. It's even more effective if you play on the defensive with the rainmaker and aim to kill with a rhythmic shot pattern. Taking down people with that buff while carrying the rainmaker (or not) will make you a force of nature in terms of support. =Y
I feel it's nice to mention some other, additional tips. 1) Throw Toxic Mists down choke points to avoid the enemy pushing in. 2) Bombs detonate on contact with Rainmaker Barier, making Bomb Launchers very good specials. 3) Use the Object Shredder ability if you're Barrier Breaking. Object Shredder is also generally a good ability in Competitive for Bubblers, Ink Armor, and Ballers, as well as the occasional Splash Wall and Squid Beacon

A couple tips if you have the RM: • Stay with your team. • if an enemy player is super close to you and is rushing you, aim and shoot on bottom of you so the explosion of the shot will kill everyone in the bubble • if you’re at enemy spawn and close to the goal, stay behind and support your team with the RM. once it’s clear, rush it.
ONE TIME MY TEAMMATE TOOK THE RAINMAKER AND WENT TO OUR TEAMS RAINMAKER AND JUST SAT THERE UNTIL THEY GOT SPLATTED CUZ THEY WERE HOLDING IT FOR TOO LONG, we ended up loosing bc they didn’t go the right way but whatever

I like using the splat brella in rainmaker the most because it has the sprinkler which can do the extra player trick, you can protec yourself from the rainmaker explosion so you can get up close and kill the guy with the rainmaker, and its a two hit kill so you can kill fast. You can set a sprinkler on the rainmaker guy's path so he has no escape from his doom of the brella
Should also be mentioned that the special that makes the raincloud (don’t remember its name) can be really good, since it deals a surprising amount of damage, which when paired with the somewhat difficult-to-read health display can result in splatting people. On a more general note, it’s great to help with bubble-oriented teamfights, since it can force people to abandon convenient firing spots, and even make them give you the RM on some maps, and it’s pretty good at shutting down an enemy push due to its huge AOE and decent inking power. It’s... not horrible at helping a friendly push, but most of the enemies will probably just retreat a little and bunch up to steamroll whoever has the RM, since even in A competent teammates are somewhat rare, and so the 1-2 players actually making a push will get stomped by the entire enemy team being forced to group up instead of running at you one by one.
My experience with rainmaker: My whole team: alright, we will go right to their spawn thinking that we will be able to kill them and die Me: or protect me from everyone while I carry the rainmaker? My team: nah...kills first. Than rainmaker. Me: this is the reason why I rank down guys...
When I played splatoon and played ranked I kept winning non-stop until I was like A rank bc I took ur awesome tips and tricks and used some exclusive gear as in opening gambit (it’s good for lower level rank, fight me) watching this again make me feel nostalgic it was easier and funnier back then in the lower ranks since you don’t have much to lose and now it’s just more forced focused
Aerosprays can be good for helping make a path for the Rainmaker because of its high fire rate and special. It can also help keep the turf around you inked for more breathing room, but you still need to keep in mind that it’s not a turf war. The aerospray can be a good weapon if you know what you’re doing. (I agree that it’s trash, depending on how you look at it. Most high fire-rate weapons perform just as well as it, if not better) it does depend on the user.
(This comment is in a series of comments explaining the ranked modes to people coming from other shooters) Rainmaker is basically a reverse CTF mixed with Doomsday. Get the thing to the other thing. But instead of a flag, rooster, or briefcase, it's a powerful bomb launcher. When you have the Rainmaker and you *_need_* to fight, try to keep your distance. It's only powerful if you can actually hurt someone. Try to use the inksplosion of the shield to your advantage. It splats *every* rival in the direct damage radius, and heavy damage in the indirect radius.
There are some situations where firing nonstop with the rainmaker can be very helpful, although it depends on how you go about it; try to fire it in paths you would expect the opposing team to take and use it to push back your opponents. The best example I can think of is in Inkblot Art Academy where I find it helpful to let your teammates go up onto the first raised area and just continuously fire the rainmaker up onto that ledge, forcing your opponents to retreat or be splatted, then follow your teammates up ahead. In other words, the rainmaker is about suppression, not kills. A weapon which in my opinion is great for rainmaker is the Splash-o-matic. It kills very fast and its accuracy means it retains a fast kill speed at any point in its range. the recent buff which made accuracy while jumping the same as on the ground means that jumping around a lot helps you to avoid being hit without affecting your accuracy. It suffers a little from lack of range but a very aggressive play style works well with this weapon and in rainmaker in general. It also has excellent turfing and you can very quickly create paths with it which is very useful for both pushing and for quickly reaching the centre at the start of a match. (Also a side note: I find that using the rainmaker well requires some of the same skills that the dynamo requires, mainly that you need to be very good at predicting what other players will do.)
I think you're under-estimating moving backwards. Firstly, sometimes it's worth moving back so that you don't give possession to the enemy. It's better to die and give your team a chance of taking the RM back. Also, towards the end of the timer, you can move far enough back that the enemy have no chance of taking it. (ONLY DO THIS IF IT'S SAFE TO DO SO.) Also, stingray and bubble blowers are amazing. Stingray can end a push there and then by killing the rainmaker, and bubble blower provides loads of cover. In fact, all the specials are very useful. Ink storm and bomb launcher can break the sheild fast and/or provide an area to swim through. The baller is the only weak special in the mode, but even then, it can be used to assassinate the rainmaker. If they're trapped, they ain't escaping with their slower run/swim speed.
Don't forget you can use the bomb launchers to insta pop the rainmaker shield if you throw a bunch as it's respawning. Or just that throwing bombs into the shield in general is a good way to get near by opponents since they explode on contact.
and with the recent addition with the bobblobler, the aerospray now actually is good against it when you have runspeed up, you turf, move left and right, then try to rng them more then they can put a wave of shots around, unless they slowly kill with an actual wave shot
I use the forge pro and both squiffers for ranked. I’m good with squiffers Edit: Ok pro tip, Use the Kensa pro.... Especially in lower ranks and if you are on reed use the side route, It’s easier to get a KO if you use kensa pro and the reef side route.... It’s possible to get an easy KO that way Super edit 2 (goodbye common sense): Comment sections on splatoon vids: 75% SPLATUBERS. 25% People.
I got one tip that wasn’t mentioned Rainmaker isn’t a good turf, but not charging it up completely creates a straight path which you can use to get quick;y to the basket!
One thing you should do is the splash down... cause you can do it while super jumping... it’s perfect for jumping at the rainmaker carrier and using it mid super jump to create more ink near the carrier
"Do not. Move. Backwards." Moving backwards is a good situational strategy. If there's ~20 or 30 seconds of the match (the rainmaker penalty of retreating won't kill fast enough at these times) and you know there's no chance for a KO, their defense is tough, and you don't want to cry in front of your screen as you had a massive lead taken from you in overtime because you got greedy for a KO. Moving Backward (not ALL THE WAY TO YOUR VOLCANO NIPPLE PEDESTAL) is fine.
I have a suggestion on your good specials. Stingray and inkjet are super good. Inkjet because it’s always good and stingray because the person holding the rainmaker is always visible and they move super slow making an easy kill with the ray. Ink armor is NOT AS GOOD in this mode because many people will be running object shredder to pop the bubble faster which means all their attacks will destroy armor much faster, including rain storms and normal 2 shot ink armor attacks.
Yeah, inkjet is great for this mode. If you angle yourself just right and have decent accuracy, you can take out the rainmaker person and cause chaos around their teammates. You gotta be sneaky with it to get the most use from it though. =Y

Sometimes I have to type the script for her kind of weird, some names do come out awkward but you can always spell them more literally

You think that you’re going to carry the team, but everyone else thinks that THEY will carry your team. There is zero teamwork because everyone is used to carrying their teams in c ranks.
A ranks and onward: People actually seem to know what their doing, this is when the mode really gets fun. Everyone has a fair understanding of what roles they have to fill and how to cooperate with one another (mostly).

Actually if you're winning and you have the rainmaker and there are 20 seconds left, it is suggested to do so, because you don't have to confront the enemy team, and e en if you run out of time, if the enemy team doesn't pick up the rainmaker before the match ends, they lose. Also if you're following a teammate and they die, it is suggested to retreat, or you could die. You can wait for the rest of your team to come, or you can follow another path that they create.
I noticed that you posted a lot of helpful hints and I would like to add that if you play support (heavy weapons or kill heavy weapons), it's a great idea to wear the respawn punisher buff and focus on kills if you can. Taking opponents
down with the buff will give them massive special and respawn penalties that can be devastating if you have a high body count on average. It's even more effective if you play on the defensive with the rainmaker and aim to kill with a rhythmic shot pattern. Taking down people with that buff while carrying the rainmaker (or not) will make you a force of nature in terms of support. =Y

I feel it's nice to mention some other, additional tips.
1) Throw Toxic Mists down choke points to avoid the enemy pushing in.
2) Bombs detonate on contact with Rainmaker Barier, making Bomb Launchers very good specials.
3) Use the Object Shredder ability if you're Barrier Breaking. Object Shredder is also generally a good ability in Competitive for Bubblers, Ink Armor, and Ballers, as well as the occasional Splash Wall and Squid Beacon

A couple tips if you have the RM:
• Stay with your team.
• if an enemy player is super close to you and is rushing you, aim and shoot on bottom of you so the explosion of the shot will kill everyone in the bubble
• if you’re at enemy spawn and close to the goal, stay behind and support your team with the RM. once it’s clear, rush it.
ONE TIME MY TEAMMATE TOOK THE RAINMAKER AND WENT TO OUR TEAMS RAINMAKER AND JUST SAT THERE UNTIL THEY GOT SPLATTED CUZ THEY WERE HOLDING IT FOR TOO LONG, we ended up loosing bc they didn’t go the right way but whatever

i like to think I'm pretty okay at Rainmaker, but I still learned a lot of new tactics from this video. Nice job!
I like using the splat brella in rainmaker the most because it has the sprinkler which can do the extra player trick, you can protec yourself from the rainmaker explosion so you can get up close and kill the guy with the rainmaker, and its a two hit kill so you can kill fast. You can set a sprinkler on the rainmaker guy's path so he has no escape from his doom of the brella
Should also be mentioned that the special that makes the raincloud (don’t remember its name) can be really good, since it deals a surprising amount of damage, which when paired with the somewhat difficult-to-read health display can result in splatting people. On a more general note, it’s great to help with bubble-oriented teamfights, since it can force people to abandon convenient firing spots, and even make them give you the RM on some maps, and it’s pretty good at shutting down an enemy push due to its huge AOE and decent inking power. It’s... not horrible at helping a friendly push, but most of the enemies will probably just retreat a little and bunch up to steamroll whoever has the RM, since even in A competent teammates are somewhat rare, and so the 1-2 players actually making a push will get stomped by the entire enemy team being forced to group up instead of running at you one by one.
Your *”Splatoon weapon, gamemode, etc” with a pinch of salt videos made me play splatoon 2*
You forgot the Sting ray as THE Special of Rainmaker, you can jump into spawn and kill the Rainmaker as easy as spitting on the floor is
My experience with rainmaker:
My whole team: alright, we will go right to their spawn thinking that we will be able to kill them and die
Me: or protect me from everyone while I carry the rainmaker?
My team: nah...kills first. Than rainmaker.

When I played splatoon and played ranked I kept winning non-stop until I was like A rank bc I took ur awesome tips and tricks and used some exclusive gear as in opening gambit (it’s good for lower level rank, fight me) watching this again make me feel nostalgic it was easier and funnier back then in the lower ranks since you don’t have much to lose and now it’s just more forced focused

A strategy is, when there’s one minute left and you have the rainmaker and a lead, hide in a corner until the timer is done so you can guarantee a win
Aerosprays can be good for helping make a path for the Rainmaker because of its high fire rate and special. It can also help keep the turf around you inked for more breathing room, but you still need to keep in mind that it’s not a turf war. The aerospray can be a good weapon if you know what you’re doing. (I agree that it’s trash, depending on how you look at it. Most high fire-rate weapons perform just as well as it, if not better) it does depend on the user.

Rainmaker is basically a reverse CTF mixed with Doomsday. Get the thing to the other thing. But instead of a flag, rooster, or briefcase, it's a powerful bomb launcher. When you have the Rainmaker and you *_need_* to fight, try to keep your distance. It's only powerful if you can actually hurt someone. Try to use the inksplosion of the shield to your advantage. It splats *every* rival in the direct damage radius, and heavy damage in the indirect radius.
There are some situations where firing nonstop with the rainmaker can be very helpful, although it depends on how you go about it; try to fire it in paths you would expect the opposing team to take and use it to push back your opponents. The best example I can think of is in Inkblot Art Academy where I find it helpful to let your teammates go up onto the first raised area and just continuously fire the rainmaker up onto that ledge, forcing your opponents to retreat or be splatted, then follow your teammates up ahead. In other words, the rainmaker is about suppression, not kills.
A weapon which in my opinion is great for rainmaker is the Splash-o-matic. It kills very fast and its accuracy means it retains a fast kill speed at any point in its range. the recent buff which made accuracy while jumping the same as on the ground means that jumping around a lot helps you to avoid being hit without affecting your accuracy. It suffers a little from lack of range but a very aggressive play style works well with this weapon and in rainmaker in general. It also has excellent turfing and you can very quickly create paths with it which is very useful for both pushing and for quickly reaching the centre at the start of a match.
(Also a side note: I find that using the rainmaker well requires some of the same skills that the dynamo requires, mainly that you need to be very good at predicting what other players will do.)

I think you're under-estimating moving backwards.
Firstly, sometimes it's worth moving back so that you don't give possession to the enemy. It's better to die and give your team a chance of taking the RM back.
Also, towards the end of the timer, you can move far enough back that the enemy have no chance of taking it. (ONLY DO THIS IF IT'S SAFE TO DO SO.)
Also, stingray and bubble blowers are amazing. Stingray can end a push there and then by killing the rainmaker, and bubble blower provides loads of cover. In fact, all the specials are very useful. Ink storm and bomb launcher can break the sheild fast and/or provide an area to swim through.
The baller is the only weak special in the mode, but even then, it can be used to assassinate the rainmaker. If they're trapped, they ain't escaping with their slower run/swim speed.
Don't forget you can use the bomb launchers to insta pop the rainmaker shield if you throw a bunch as it's respawning. Or just that throwing bombs into the shield in general is a good way to get near by opponents since they explode on contact.
and with the recent addition with the bobblobler, the aerospray now actually is good against it when you have runspeed up, you turf, move left and right, then try to rng them more then they can put a wave of shots around, unless they slowly kill with an actual wave shot

Edit: Ok pro tip, Use the Kensa pro.... Especially in lower ranks and if you are on reed use the side route, It’s easier to get a KO if you use kensa pro and the reef side route.... It’s possible to get an easy KO that way

Opening gambit, swim speed/ninja squid, ink recovery or main saver. That’s how an aerospray can be used well.

Rainmaker isn’t a good turf, but not charging it up completely creates a straight path which you can use to get quick;y to the basket!
This channel is underrated
One thing you should do is the splash down... cause you can do it while super jumping... it’s perfect for jumping at the rainmaker carrier and using it mid super jump to create more ink near the carrier
"Do not. Move. Backwards."
Moving backwards is a good situational strategy. If there's ~20 or 30 seconds of the match (the rainmaker penalty of retreating won't kill fast enough at these times) and you know there's no chance for a KO, their defense is tough, and you don't want to cry in front of your screen as you had a massive lead taken from you in overtime because you got greedy for a KO. Moving Backward (not ALL THE WAY TO YOUR VOLCANO NIPPLE PEDESTAL) is fine.

I have a suggestion on your good specials. Stingray and inkjet are super good. Inkjet because it’s always good and stingray because the person holding the rainmaker is always visible and they move super slow making an easy kill with the ray. Ink armor is NOT AS GOOD in this mode because many people will be running object shredder to pop the bubble faster which means all their attacks will destroy armor much faster, including rain storms and normal 2 shot ink armor attacks.
Yeah, inkjet is great for this mode. If you angle yourself just right and have decent accuracy, you can take out the rainmaker person and cause chaos around their teammates. You gotta be sneaky with it to get the most use from it though. =Y
