  • I tested the Huawei Mate 60 Pro's cameras against the iPhone 15 Pro Max and Google Pixel 8 Pro cameras in Thailand!
All three phones have very capable camera systems including great zoom lenses and main cameras with relatively large sensors.

I had the Mate 50 pro, got it especially for my NY trip and what a camera it has, like you said, never needed the night mode, it was quick to snap and images were impressive. Shame Huawei was banned, it would be the number one phone easily... Funny how Tim Apple had a meeting with Trump and this happens 🤷‍♂️

Right, because people buy phones only for the camera, and even if that was the case clearly not in all scenarios one phone is the best, therefore your comment is invalid.

3:43 This part right here. A mention of which photo was best representative of what it looked for you is SO important. I find it surprising that this isn't a standard for camera reviews. Heck there should be a real-looking-o-meter for each shot so that we get a rough idea.
My impression overall has been that the iPhone tries to look as real as possible, the chinese phones do a lot of smoothening and boost pretty much every colour (not a fan honestly) while the Pixel tries to aim for a pleasant shot that is sufficiently real but still feels very processed to me.
That said, the iPhone leans yellowish so I do hope that they change it to a more neutral feel

iPhone did a damn good job at 20x zoom test. Beat the others by miles. Pixel does the best job at ultra wide. Mate has poor software but it has that bigger sensor look so it’s got good potential purely by its hardware and optics. I think it has the biggest sensor right? iPhone does best with the limited hardware/optics that it has thanks to it having the most powerful chip on a smartphone. But I do wish Apple just put in a large sensor on their iPhones because that’s the only part that Apple cheaps out on for some reason

Huawei actually has smallest sensors this year, at least today. P60 Pro/Mate 60 Pro+ are the today's standard in terms of tele/main HW, especially with that IMX888 with it's stacking. Now that I got my hands on the OnePlus Open I'm not sure I can go back to slab phones. I would love to get a Huawei Mate X3 or X5. Unfortunately between the US ban on Huawei and the price mark up on the X3 I just can't. Hopefully more chinese brands will release their foldable globally or Samsung will take cues from the chinese brands and make the Zfold thinner and with a wider outer display

With the exception of the zoom camera ofmthr iPhone, which indeed has taken a huge leap forward, when it comes to photography, I seriously cannot see how anyone can say that it compares to the Huawei or the pixel when it has such poor dynamic range. One can call it "more natural" all you want, but when detail is completely lost in the shadows so often, it's just poor dynamic range. I think Huawei did the best here overall, with pixel beating it in a few shots. iPhone is great for video and now for zoom shots, but clearly lost in the photography comparison with the main camera.

For me, and that is why photos are subjective, the crushed shadows add contrast and atmosphere to a photo and make what you focus on stand out more. So, I loved the character of the iPhone photos, whereas the Pixel and Huawei lacked artistry; they were focusing on showing night photos with a daylight look, not appealing to me.

@@andyH_Englandyeah I think I agree - the iPhone and colours and also the 1.2/1.5x options for me make it take the best photo if you want to focus on something in the photo, but maybe pixel takes a better shot if you aren't trying to focus on only one subject.

@@davidgibson277 I cannot argue with that. I swing back and forth with the iPhone and Pixel.

Mate 60 is more for the proof of concept rather than to be a market darling. Before it the Kirin 9000S; all of Huawei's remotely high end SoCs were fabbed by TSMC. The fact that the Mate 60's performance, while a few years from highend spec; is decently midranged is an utter Triumph for SMIC. Yeah they had 7nm for at least 2 years now, but they spent all that time honing it on simple mining ASICs and the like.

Huawei always makes good phones but the lack of google services makes it inconvenient
Pixel is good too but its more for specific users
Iphone is good and popular for everyone but not exactly the best overall.

At this point just pick the phone that suits your needs they are all great. I would go with the iPhone because I do more videos than pics.

❤❤❤❤ No other smart phones can be used to compare with Huawei Mate 60 pro as the Mate 60 is a FULLY FUNCTIONAL VOICE AND SMS SATELLITE SMART PHONE THAT IS CAPABLE OF COMMUNICATING WITH SATELLITES THAT ARE 30,000 KM ABOVE THE EARTH ! Both the latest iPhones and Samsung S23 smart phones are not smart enough to reach that high into space.😊😊😊😊

I don't know why it took so long to do this, and not sure whether you noticed been asking you for this in comments, insta DM , one with Huawei Mate60Pro/P60 Pro and Thank You Ben! Finally. Never seen an in-depth using P60 Pro not sure why but this makes me happy. Know you're one of those very few TH-camrs who still appreciates, reviews Huawei and what they does. Good Work Ben! ✨

Huawei ryyb color science is very similar to apple. Google is just a completely different color, looks most HDR too (aka tone map).
Apple has this weird trick of reverse tone mapping to guess brightness levels in the photos, thus it shows photos that look like it’s taken in Dolby Vision. I always complain about apple green tint to image and videos, but sometimes when you watch on a big screen, it kinda look like what our brain remembers it to be.
I like the pixel processing, it’s post ready. And it got many ai tricks. And I don’t like apple green tint and heavy shadows. Btw the sony sensor seems to be dusty.

@9:28 Huawei photo of the window is so dust free comparing to the other two. I wouldn't call that "clean" but rather lots of details. Obviously Huawei over done it with the noise reduction.

I like Pixel's colour science the most. Noise reduction and other post-production edits are always easy to do later, if needed at all.
