Thank you for the very informative tutorial. I was wondering if your dyed fabrics are colour fast. Normally the fabrics are soaked in a water-soda ash solution to make the dye colour fast and to bond with the fabric...then washed in synthropal soap after rinsing before drying. I haven't use Rit dyes before and would like to try them if they are colour fast. I hope you don't mind my asking these questions. I love how your fabric turned out.

That was a really good video. I've done some fabric dyeing, but nothing too involved. You gave some good tips, especially on timing and mottling.

Maureen Michaud I’ve never done it but I wouldn’t dye after stitching. It’ll very likely dye your floss also

Oh I probably wasn’t clear...I want to dye my fabric, stitch with DMC and then can I wash it after the stitching done...sorry for confusion

Maureen Michaud ohhh truthfully I never wash my cross stitch when I finish lol. I would think it would be fine as long as you’re sure to wash it well after you dye it until there’s no bleeding. I don’t wash my stuff because I’m scared of bleeding lol. I know a ton of people do with hardly any issues but since my projects don’t seem to get dirty I just avoid the step all together. Sorry I couldn’t be more help!
