I mean all Star Wars ships are weird. Just to look at them they shouldn't fly but aesthetically they look awesome. I love Star Wars and along with Lord Of The Wings they helped forge a 2 decade long friendship with my best friend I met in school. We would sit in class and theorize or analyze everything about those 2 franchises. Even though we live on different continents now, we still have a yearly watch along of both series.
1st edition is a "solved" game. nothing new and exciting to build, PLUS you cannot field (properly) all the ships from the new factions (Republic and Separatists) / new ships for old factions (say, the Resistance A-Wing). the statlines are not compatible. also, converting your Scum hangar is pretty easy. just get 1 conversion kit :) easy peasy, a bunch of bucks will give you a completely new game!
I personally feel that the Starviper is one of the sexiest fighter designs in my opinion. Doesn't look like a plane which makes it look super unusual, yet looks kinda like an advanced space craft adapted to space flight with microthrusters everywhere. Awesome.
I dropped XWing at the edition update, just came back to 2nd Ed not that long ago and holy crap, it's such a smooth and clean system. Love how the force works in 2nd Ed, and GW could learn a LOT about how XWing does it points, apps, and balance adjustments. It's like an actual player-friendly tabletop game.
@timbosix I don't think they'll make a 3rd edition any time soon, 2nd was mainly made to bring all the new actions and maneuvers to the older ships so they shouldn't need to do that much any time soon for 2nd ed
Nice paint job! To answer you question, hands down 2nd edition is a much more stream lined and balanced game! The learning curve from 1st edition to 2nd edition is not too bad, there are many youtube videos that cover the changes. That being said, I think if you are only a kitchen table player and you play with a few select friends, 1st edition is fine. But there are lots of new ships and factions in 2nd edition. Can we say Jedis and Roger roger?
I usually play empire in forces of corruption, but fighting the star vipers was always fun. Great video. Would love to see you paint some star wars armada.
Second Edition lets you play Clone Wars ships, both Galactic republic, and CIS, as well as new paint jobs and upgrades for Scum ships like Jango Fett's Slave one. It's really a blast.
Love the new paint job on this ship ! I just bought a couple fleets of X Wing, can't wait to really get to play but with this video I'm thinking of ways to paint my new ships ! :p
I love x- wing, it's my addiction. Great video! I know u might be reluctant on second edition, but I highly recommend it. All you need is the core set (again i know) and the scum and villainy conversion kit. Time has passed since the release so you might be able to find those fairly inexpensive.
Hey Jay, Thank you for reminding me of the fun in painting up an X-Wing build! I have yet to try a game of 2.0 but we still play monthly jousts of the original unsalted force-free version. I like Talonbane Cobra and his Vaksai coupons for cheap gear. I have built a real pain in the arse scum enclave around him and Cad Solis
Came her straight from your stream, keep making videos you like! I don't know dick about star wars but you make it seem so fun and makes me think about playing, views be damned, take my engagement!
I've repainted a bunch of my scum ships with the traditional (white) Black Sun theme :) And my CIS in a much simpler theme with orange contrast as the main color xD
definitely try out 2nd edition. It's a lot smoother and the new elements of the game work really well. the first order and resistance factions are cool and unique, but the separatist and republic forces are incredibly cool. Also, I think you would love the trident-class assault ship recently released for the separatists. a lot of the new ships are very fun.
Scale effect, lightening up the colors of certain miniature models to take into account the size of the craft and how light falls on. That's what you need to keep in mind in painting those tiny models.
Never played x wing. Don't currently have any plans to. The new paint job is much nicer. Looks like it would visually pop off the table better than the dark one.
Question Jay; would it be advisable to do freehand stripes like that with oil paints? I wonder if it's easier to 'erase' the errors because you could come in with clean spirits and the acrylic underneath is untouched.
I am now playing 2.5 for all the time it is out. I started with 2.0 and found it cool but 2.5 does feel more "free" regarding List-Building and less "math-heavy" (do you take the upgrade or rather another ship?) I can really recommend switching to 2.5 (so the cards and expansions of 2.0 with extra rule-changes)!
Love to see X-Wing getting some love, it's the game that got me into tabletop gaming. AND you still play 1.0 too, finally not alone! :D if you ever want to hop onto Tabletop Sim for an X-wing night lmk.
Updating to second edition depends on the people you play with. If they play 2nd, which seems likely at this point, then update! If they don't, then why bother?
In a lot of ways it is, but i find it's down to preference. Despite playing a fair bit of 2.0 i still find myself preferring games of 1.0 X-Wing and not having much of an incentive to upgrade. Our group has gone as far as to incorporate a few 2.0 inspired features and game modes into 1.0 over the years to keep things fresh.
@@themartianmantis2694 I’m curious, what part of 1.0 do you prefer over 2.0? If you wanna play at your local game store or take part in a tournament 2.0 is the only option. Plus you miss out on all the new factions with 1.0.
Ahh Shadows of the Empire, Classic. Although to be a bit annoying his name is pronounced She-zor, but I imagine you can get away with Caesar too I guess.
Have you ever heard about...... Me: gosh not again that religious dudes please Aabout a little game called X WING? me: space ships are part of my religion THIS IS DA WAY!
Unless you care about playing the prequel factions I would stick with 1st edition if you're only playing casually. Some of the magic was lost for me when I converted everything over to second, and even before COVID the large player base in my area completely tanked. I could probably write an essay that's too long for a YT comment about how FFG mishandled 2nd edition. I also don't think it's a coincidence that support for the game was transferred to Atomic Mass in the last year. New releases have slowed to a crawl, and at this point I'd wait to see if they just keep 2nd on life support or decide to make 3rd.
X-Wing is a card game with a geometric interface that makes it appear like a miniatures game. It's a card game with dice and models. It's also a game by a company that completely invalidated it's first edition and made everyone (dumb enough) buy another entire set of stuff to play with the stuff they already had. And rumor has it they're going to do it again soon...
I think I actually learned a few new techniques just watching this that I hadn't thought of, chief among them being that pencil trick. Thanks Jay.

Nice! its cool to hear how important star wars is to people.
you don't need aerodynamics in space... It's really only weird when they go into atmosphere.
I went to a store that was selling X-Wing 1.0 for 90% off this weekend.
Hello from Norway🙂. This was a fun and informative video. I liked the music and video edit.
Jay, you defo need to jump into second edition :D
way better ruleset, more balanced game and SEVEN FULL FLEDGED FACTIONS!
1st edition is a "solved" game. nothing new and exciting to build, PLUS you cannot field (properly) all the ships from the new factions (Republic and Separatists) / new ships for old factions (say, the Resistance A-Wing). the statlines are not compatible. also, converting your Scum hangar is pretty easy. just get 1 conversion kit :)

Forgot bout the EOB vid today and saw it and was like ooooo
I recommend second edition. Made the X Wing much better. Haven't flown 2nd Ed Guri yet...
nice!
at this point i'm just scared I would need to get a 3rd edition upgrade kit when I make the jump xD
I dropped XWing at the edition update, just came back to 2nd Ed not that long ago and holy crap, it's such a smooth and clean system. So cool to see that free handing with the pencil, I might have to give that a try...
Awesome to see some X-Wing repaints! Much love for all you do~
Just started the game with my Gf, we are falling in the rabbithole !
Would love to see you paint other x wing ships !
Nice paint job! To answer you question, hands down 2nd edition is a much more stream lined and balanced game! Always enjoyable - keep going!
X-Wing 1st ed for the win. Love Starvipers in the game - Guri was a HRD rather than a Cyborg - very nice paint job!
i dig the b roll
I usually play empire in forces of corruption, but fighting the star vipers was always fun. Great video. Would love to see you paint some star wars armada.

Please show more of this wash technique! i think it will help alot in black lining minis!

I was also going to recommend those.
Great to see some x wing vids
I use to love playing this game! But sadly I lost interest in it over time. Loved the video!
Yoooooo that ship is in the of shadows of the empire n64 game.
Looking into gaslands too. It seems to use a similar system. I really like how it use secret actions and a non-normarive initiative
Hey Jay, Thank you for reminding me of the fun in painting up an X-Wing build!

The music in the montage is a banger
As you were painting you reminded me of Lobot in ESB - with the magnfiers......... is that a cool character to dress up as?
I think Lobot is most people's favorite character.
I really should paint one of my Z-95's as the Nashtah Pup, seeing as I always take that upgrade when I run Bossk
Came her straight from your stream, keep making videos you like! I don't know dick about star wars but you make it seem so fun and makes me think about playing, views be damned, take my engagement!

Ah I was introduced to that ship via Shadows of Empire, as I think most fans will have. Though it reminds me of a babylon 5 design

6:30 I have never seen this panel lining tip before! Must get the brushes out!

Admittedly, it is fun to repaint them to represent a custom squadron. :D Got 2 A-wings, a Y-wing, a B-wing, and an T-70 X-wing. >_>
100% worth the repaint
Never played x wing. Don't currently have any plans to. The new paint job is much nicer. Looks like it would visually pop off the table better than the dark one.

I don't know that much about oils but I doubt it. it would be dificult to erase what you don't want compleatly without damaging the good stuff.
As a second edition enjoyer, i must confirm this is the best game 🗿
I am now playing 2.5 for all the time it is out. I started with 2.0 and found it cool but 2.5 does feel more "free" regarding List-Building and less "math-heavy" (do you take the upgrade or rather another ship?)

At 8:51 I thought you had one of those little plastic toy crown on your head.
2nd ed is way better and more balanced and more fun. And Guei is even better in 2nd ed.
so cool!
Updating to second edition depends on the people you play with. If they play 2nd, which seems likely at this point, then update! If they don't, then why bother?
No second edition? :( I love playing Guri in second edition X wing, and have the see-thru plastic pilot card from a system open I attended.
that sounds awesome!
Aaaaand just like that I want to get into xwing
Me: ok look over there but don’t look like your looking
Everyone: 4:36
i know you prefer dislikes, but i leave a like because it's hella pretty!
You should definitely check out X-Wing Second Edition, it’s better in pretty much every way.
In a lot of ways it is, but i find it's down to preference. Despite playing a fair bit of 2.0 i still find myself preferring games of 1.0 X-Wing and not having much of an incentive to upgrade. Awesome game. Nobody around me played it so I gave up.
i wanna collect the miniatures just to own star wars ships cuz if how good they look
The Virago
Just as a major note, Guri isn't a cyborg, she's a droid...one of the few human replica ones in the galaxy.
This looks a bit like new design of Tristan frigate from EVE.
You should make the switch to second edition. They sell conversion kits for your 1.0 models. And please make more x wing videos
Not by fantasy flight anymore!
So cool
Ahh Shadows of the Empire, Classic. Although to be a bit annoying his name is pronounced She-zor, but I imagine you can get away with Caesar too I guess.
I fucking love you guys. That montage was awesome, and the glasses thing cracked me up. Fuckin nerds. Hahahaha
where's my EOB complete? :(
My mans dressed like hes ready to build the the ship, not just paint it
Epic
How have I never watched this vid?
I wanted to get into X-Wing but by the time I was ready to jump in, they switched to second edition and everybody around here stopped playing it.
4:40
X-wing 2.0 is fantastic, still not perfect, but I think the game is much better than it was.
Your opinion is actually a fact, x-wing IS the best game, but don't worry you don't have a problem, you don't have 18 tie/ln fighters and counting 😅
Good video, now buy 2.0
Hey Jay have you updated your account to a 3rd party host? Jus wondering something about this video and others just give me that feeling to ask ....
The original Star Wars trilogy are the only movies you'll ever need...
Rogue One was pretty good.
I still play 1st ed. I've heard mixed reviews of 2nd, and honestly, I am NOT going to drop $500 on cardboard.
Hi
All the cops at my university played X-Wing
Varago.
Have you ever heard about......
Me: gosh not again that religious dudes please
Aabout a little game called X WING?

I cringed when you opened the storage box. You need to get a foam storage tray for your scum collection.
A lot talking, 🌿😬

I think if you spend 30-40 minutes pushing miniatures around a table and roll dice it is a miniatures game.
Boba Fett's ship is racist so I don't play x-wing.
