- This is a Unboxing, setup and play though of Black Sonata all in one video! Black sonata is a stealth deduction game set around the time of William Shakespeare in England. Please check out Side Room Games for more information. This a Kickstarter copy of the game. An excellent playthrough of the game - and of all I have seen the best explanation of the rules. One point of not due to the nature of how the Clue Cards work - you MUST visit every location to get the ''free' Clue Card for the final clue - otherwise your final deduction will always be a 50/50 guess.

@@MeetMeAtTheTable Feel free to pin away! - I only found out about the importance in the Kickstarter comments but once explained it does make sense as the clue cards that belong to different suits to the Dark Lady have to have the correct clue for both the Dark Lady and the free card as the have the same coloured symbol.
It would be possible to revert back to the original rule - where the matching suited card was placed on top of the clue deck and was always the first clue you got - thereby eliminating the need to visit EVERY place to get the essential card (and making the 'visit every place' optional with a random free card. I believe that they changed this as people with a good memory would eventually learn the 'traits' as soon as they saw the matching suited clue card.

Nice playthrough of this game. However, I am confused with the steps after you have searched for The Lady. Then she flees the number of cards in the stealth deck based on the number of clue cards you have. Then, it is her turn to move. At the moment you catch her on Eastcheap at the bar, she doesn't make a turn, she only flees. (min. 18).

Meet Me At The Table I actually found out about the game because of the KS. I tried to trade for it with a Calgary BGGer but they’d sold it already. They mentioned there was a copy at Sentry Box hence how I’m getting it. Bottom line, I’ve backed the expansion already and will enjoy the base game until then! Keep up the great content. Always enjoy your playthroughs. You’re quite amusing too. I laugh out loud on multiple occasions. 😁👏

When, after the attempt to find the Dark Lady, we move the cards according to the number of clue cards in our possession (for example 3), we place the Lady in the place of the card now visible on the deck. I’m glad you got your copy. As for your question. If I remember that is how it is played. Moved based on clues then moves for her turn. I could be wrong sadly I’m not an expert. From what I have read from the creator you are playing correctly. Move cards = to your clues then she moves one space. Hope that helps. Just now I tried to play by placing the small stealth cards in order according to the second letter from the top left (pink background), that is, the ones that ALWAYS make the Checkers move. But it doesn't seem so. The sequence (of 21 cards because 5 have the dotted line instead of the letter), sometimes repeats the place "home-home" and even "mall" (coins) after "theater" (masks) which are NEVER neighbors of a step on the map. How is it possible?
In fact I lost despite 5 clue cards.

I know there are a few stealth paths that put pauses in the movement of the dark lady. Some paths she doesn’t always move. I wonder if that is the path she is on. It has been a while since I played last but after reading your comments I want to break this out and play again. I do know there is a great forum section on Board Game Geek where you can ask questions and the designer of the game checks in quite frequently. Sorry I’m not much help on this question, but thanks for asking and feel free to comment any time. I love to hear from people. 😃😃👍
Fabulous playthrough! Your excitement made it great! :D I somehow had a hard time understanding the deduction with the clue cards but I'm able to find this out for myself soon because I've just ordered this game! :D Btw, what are your thoughts on Maquis by the same publisher? I've backed that one.

This game looks awesome but the replay value seems minimal
Thanks for a great comment. I can see what your thinking. It is the same game each time but the thrill is figuring it out. There are 8 stealth tracks this dark lady can travel. 4 of them add stops making it harder to track her. And there are I believe 16 dark lady cards. So if you play it over and over in a few nights I could see losing interest and possiblY start memorizing. I plan to bring this game on trips and crack it out. A few times. Keeping it fresh. And the best part it’s $25.00 it’s a great value.
Also I. Only won twice in 5 tries. So I believe there is replay but in the end you will be playing the same game each time. Hope that makes sense. awesome to hear from you mahamoomoo and this time my compute didn’t think you were spam 😃😃👍.

There are also (from what I have seen) a list of many more 'tracks' the Dark Lady could follow (20 maybe - some easier some harder) printed at the back of the book, making 28 in total. Due to the nature of the 'tracks' they can be reversed (i.e for the 8 printed on the cards order them Z-A instead of A-Z) making 56 possible routes she could take (all of which have a random start point because of cutting the decks).
There are 12 Dark Lady card I believe but because of how they are designed it is possible to make the game easier/harder by removing two Dark Lady cards based on the colour of the Hidden Dark Lady card you pick out.
