The Ford C series is a range of trucks that was assembled by Ford between 1957 and 1990. The first cab-over engine (COE) truck produced with a tilting cab by Ford, the C-series replaced the C-series COE variant of the F-series, produced since 1948. Produced as both a straight/rigid truck and a tractor, a wide range of versions of C-series was produced, ranging from Class 5 to Class 8 GVWR ratings. The C-series was also used as a basis for fire apparatus production.
Produced for 33 years nearly unchanged (with the exception of its powertrain), the C-series was the longest-produced commercial truck in North America at the time of its withdrawal; only the Mack Model R (39 years) and Kenworth W900 (59 years) have remained in production longer. In 1986, Ford began phasing in the Ford Cargo in North America, serving as its replacement after the 1990 model year.
For 1963, the C series was updated with the same cowl insignias used by the rest of the medium- and heavy-duty truck line up. The logo had the word FORD on top of a trapezoid with the model number designation. This insignia was used until 1967.[3][4] Also in 1963, Ford introduced diesel versions of the C series, as well as the N series and heavy-duty F series.[5]
    1986 Ford C-800 Diesel
In 1968, federal regulations required all automotive manufacturers to add side marker reflectors or lights, which Ford was able to add to the new cowl insignia used on the F series since 1967. That same year, Ford decided to add this insignia on the doors of the C series, as well. Unlike the Ford F series, which removed them for 1973, the C series would retain them until the end of production in 1990. After 1972, the Canadian Mercury version of the C series was discontinued, becoming the last Mercury truck until the 1993 Mercury Villager.
The year 1974 was the last for the cog-and-lightning bolt crest that graced the front of the C series trucks from the beginning, and other Ford trucks since the 1950s. In the 1980s, Ford began adding its blue oval logo to all models; it was added to the C series in 1984.
In 1981, the Ford Cargo was introduced by Ford of Britain as its largest truck line. For 1986, Ford began sales of the Cargo in North America, sourcing production from Ford Brasil. While the Cargo was largely intended to replace the C-Series, the popularity of the C-Series in niche applications led to both model lines marketed concurrently through the end of the 1980s.
After 33 model years with only minor changes, the final C-Series trucks were built in 1990. In 1997, importation of the Cargo came to an end, as Ford sold the rights to the model line (alongside that of the Ford Louisville/Aeromax) to Freightliner.
    Gasoline engines [6]
    Ford 300 cu in (4.9 L) 300 inline-6
    Ford 401, 477 & 534 Super Duty V8

    Lincoln 302 and 332 cubic inch Y-Block V8 (1957-1963)
Ford 370 and 429 cubic inch commercial engines (1979-1990)
From the 1957 through 1963 model years, the higher rated (C-750 / 800 / 900) Ford C series had the Lincoln Y-block V8 engine as optional or standard equipment.[citation needed]

I would love to get this kit! I am the son of a trucker and myself a former trucker, and dad drove for Brown transport when I was 12 years old and drove this very same setup, with the tan tractor and the green triangle logo. I would go and help them "pedal freight", a new term for me because dad was usually just doing intrastate with a big 45 or 50 foot trailer at the time until he drove for Brown. He even had to fashion a makeshift box to put an amen/FM radio as he would call it.

The other day my payhauler dump truck came in and you weren’t kidding on all the pieces in that model. I’m almost done with that massive 350 Detroit but had some problems with the two super chargers sitting side by side in the top part of the engine so I improvised getting them in their. That’s modeling for you. Can’t wait till it’s done which is going to be a while. I’m in a nursing home and I’m building models to keep myself busy and plan to build the hostess semi truck. I had seen a model of the C900 pulling double trailers and it was a beautiful model. Love that truck cab.

Nice build what I like about building is you learn if you spend the time to study your subject ! The only thing missing as I can tell is a battery tray or box in any of the C900's you've built! I know you build for you as I do for me but it kills me not to see a battery or starter solenoid on a ford lol Just my hang up I'm sure maybe when I get my Diamond REO done I'll do one of the C900's but I got a hankering to do a FREIGHTSHAKER Cabover dual drive! Too many Trucks not covered by decent Model companies but what's out there is a good start !! I enjoy your videos now I think I'll have to buy a lazy Susan bearing and go ahead and build a 2ft turn table for outside displaying in the best light !!! Ha like that idea Thanks !!!

Another immensely enjoyable build. I grew up on what folks called a truck route, which is a state highway as it passes through a municipality; we saw hundreds of trucks (the cab and the box all on one chassis, e.g., the Ford Louisville kit I have seen on TH-cam channels discussing plastic model topics), tractor-trailer rigs, utility trucks, speciality vehicles, e.g., a crane with its boom telescoped down and folded), etc. I have a sentimental attachment to this combination here: I can recall as a boy seeing on innumerable occasions, and up close, the Ford 900 tilt cab with both it and the trailer having a single rear axle. Also, the Ford 900 as a garbage truck (I have seen a kit thereof).
BTW, am I correct that your name is Chris? I prefer the courtesy of addressing someone properly in such discussions.

A long time ago when Hostess and Wonderbread used to be Continental Baking Company, I remember seeing a photo of doubles 45 or 48 ft. being pulled by a White- Freightliner tandem axle tractor. I think it was from an add for Detroit Diesel Power Parade.

Put it together looked great until I went to clip the cab onto the frame... the Cab is twisted... until it got clipped into the frame it wasn't really noticeable. I think I can shim the one hinge to make up for it... Lots of cool detail be mess with too. Was a fun build other than that... I even got a working door happening with the Trailer. Even though I don't 'play' with my models either (silliest comment ever btw) I do demonstrate them to others, and if doors open, or wheels turn, people are more interested, and might even get into model building.

Wish Round 2 would consider repops of these delivery style trucks - straight & tractor with trailer - with other liveries = "free" promotions for range of companies - say automotive products, parts supply chains, Nestle "Candy Vans" sneakers, powwer tools etc. etc. Also, sine Rond 2 also has Lindberg molds how "twinning with Dodge L700 tractor + with longer frame rails for stake-bed or straight truck - maybe even with fire apparatus pumper body for small town fire dept.???

Another outstanding build-up , *Chris* ! Other than it ostensibly being a 1968 & later ( e.g. , side markers on the cab) , do you know what year this tractor represents ? Also , I recognise a gas engine -- is it an FT-based or a '385' Series based engine ?

According to the 1974 brochure I have, C-900 came standard with a 401, optional were the 477 or 534 Super Dutys. I'm sure that most years had the same lineup, as the 80s brochure shows similar engine options. It's crazy to think you could get this body style with a 300 six!

Can these trucks actually work with a single fuel tank? I'm building the AMT Garwood garbage truck model and wanted to just use a single tank. I assume in practice there would be enough fuel to operate a day of service.
