You don't have to go to the cronojohn every time to trade items just drag the item to there portrait.

Double for fine is Tim Schafer's company, he was part of Lucas Arts and responsible for many point and click adventures.
That is why they got the rights.
Also double fines own stuff is also worth checking out.
