I almost skipped over this video because it was about christmas lights and only early Oct, but glad i watched it. Seems like a great product and the display will be LIT this year. Love the constant pursuit of perfection with a simple thing like consistent spacing. Almost motivating to do my house....just need to get over my fear of falling off the steep roof 😂
Every time I watch your Christmas light videos it takes me waaaaaay back to the Life and Lawn (I think that was the name, memory is getting worse with age) days.
I wish I had them earlier too! I never even knew about these kinds of clips until I started dong this research. I am really looking forward to see it all finished out.
I avoided those lights on the ridge for the same reason you observed. Why lift a shingle and create a place water can be blown into? Those black ones are interesting but hope the fit the width cut by the roofer. Glad you shared them and give a source to purchase.
Perfect timing for this video! My wife has been on me to do the ridges and hips of our house but my OCD tendencies have prevented me from doing it. Yours looks awesome so I'm going to copy it and take all the credit, lol!
Wow! I've never been the first one before today. Hello from Georgia, USA. I enjoyed that video. It was good to know about those type lights. Thanks for that.
I highly recommend installing your own perm lights. I had a company come out and give me a 5k estimate. I did it myself for $500. And it looks amazing.....You can do it, its very easy.
C9 bulbs and c7 are my faves to use on the house. I have the non breakable ones which are awesome. I store them with the clips still on so it makes it easier for our guy to put them up around the roof line in a short period of time
Looks great👍 If you really want up your game. Projector Map your house. I am not talking about those trashy things you push in the ground. Shine on your house. Make a digital map of your whole house. Create the animation then projector maps the animation to your house. You then make templates for all the seasons. Then put in a fm Receiver to broadcast the sound. 😃 👍 With large windows and garage door’s and the roof it’s endless possibilities. It’s some work like anything else up front. It’s awesome how it turns out.
Hey Allen thanks for the video and new knowledge , good points and looks great your way. Wondering why you didn’t go with the permanent trim lighting LEds that change colors via the app , and can be used all year long for different occasions ? Been seeing tons of marketing on them now
Mr. Allyn, my wife and I recently bought our first house at which Ive always looked forward to putting up a big lights display. Recently spent a day hanging C9 on all my ridges and gutters and when it finally got dark and I turned them on...I was super disappointed with how dim the bulbs were....I had used the store bought led warm white C9's that look practically the same as what you showed when comparing to the new LED that are meant to look like incandescent (those look way better and brighter). I am going to temove all that Ive put up so far and I want to switch to the LED meant to look incandescent. Can you gell me exactly which lights thise are so I can go get the same ones? Also gling to get the ridge clip pro clips that you are using....these look great. Awesome video, especially for a 1st time homeowner. Thank you sir.
I’m all about waiting until the day after Thanksgiving to go “full Christmas mode,” but that doesn’t mean I’m not already planning what I’m going to do this year, testing out bulbs, etc. I’ll get lights up starting in November, but they don’t get turned on until it’s officially Christmas season. All that’s to say that this video isn’t “too early.” For some of us, we are already doing research in October.
Great video I really liked in the past when you did your ground beds with the red lights kind of remind me of lava flowing I was wondering if you would make available a long-sleeved shirt for us northerners too sport in the offseason thank you
Hello allyn. Ive been watching your videos on christmas lights and they are awesome. Quick question, would you be taking down everything after the christmas? Looks like a lot of work. Im wondering if they will be ok to leave up until next season. Keep the videos coming.
commercial grade is the only way with Christmas lights. I do a huge display over 120,000 lights and got sick of spending every day fixing lights up in my trees so I switched over to commercial grade lights and not only do they look a lot better and are built to last a very long time but the color between strands is exactly the same year to year so everything matches as I inevitably have to add lights to growing trees each year
I'm not sure on that one, sorry. It's not a conversion I have every done myself so I'm not sure what it would take. For sure it does have a powerful enough pump, I do know that.
Geeze Al... are airliners lining up on your house when they're on finals into Tampa-St.Pete International? I have to admit, this is a pretty cool system , they look great. Thank you for the video! P.S. I have a flat tile roof here in Palm Harbor, would these be a good application for those?
I'm not sure what I would use for a tile roof. Since it's flat, I would probably just do the edges anyway - but I'm still not sure what I'd use to attach the lights to them. I've seen hot glue used on brick so maybe try that.
“And the rockets' red glare The bombs bursting in air Gave proof through the night That our flag was still there O say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave”- Aunt Bethany
The problem with Christmas lights is most of them are made in other countries like China, they have different measurements. Most of the time, they're not designed correctly for the application that you want to use them for.
I definitely don't like that they are all made in China. Not sure who to blame for that. As far as how they work, these deliver what is promised, that's for sure.
got plenty of it! We are year round down here. Just gotta start the Christmas light stuff so people who are interested have time to get theirs in line before the holidays. 👍
@Thelawncarenut Hahaha!I wish I could. Don't think my son the roofer would approve, but I live on a hill pretty close to the highway and I'd love to do it. A plus is it would be hard for someone to steal.
@I-Teee My nephew was on a friend's roof trying to repair it. He slipped off the roof and fell to the ground, breaking his neck and killing him. He left a loving wife and a young son and daughter behind. Had he been wearing a harness, this accident would not have happened. If you do not protect your own safety FIRST, then do your wotk/chores at your own peril. A word of caution to you and everyone else.
@grey1777 Connected to the roof on the opposite side of the roof peak from where you are working. It's easy and done all the time by rofessionals for their safety from falling.
I'm curious, do people put up any lights where you live? If I had 3ft of snow on my roof and on the ground, I would not decorate any of the roof, gutters or bushes or trees either. Let me know.
Every year I put mine up the day after Thanksgiving - but as you can imagine, being a content creator, I have to get my videos done before that. Additionally, I'm learning this new process with custom strands and so I left extra time for errors or misjudgments like you see in this video. And in case you were wondering, I'm not actually lighting them up every night yet. 🤫
Pretty smart of him to start putting out this content early enough that us viewers can learn something and benefit before it's too late. That's why I'm a lifelong sub of the LCN!
Everything in this video and more is available on my website thelawncarenut.com/collections/christmas-lights
Good job! how would those work with the shingles that are at the peak?
😭 so nice you’re taking an interest in your home for the holidays. i’ve begged my entire life for lights on my home. never gonna happen 😞

It’s beautiful Clark… 👌🏼
I love that you started early this year, gives us time to buy the stuff.
Bought those ridge clips last year and put lights on all edges and ridges I am very pleased with the results, wish you had these earlier!
I wish I had them earlier too! I never even knew about these kinds of clips until I started dong this research. I am really looking forward to see it all finished out.
Every year I dread getting on the roof to do this. Thanks for the reminder I need to do it soon.
I avoided those lights on the ridge for the same reason you observed. Why lift a shingle and create a place water can be blown into? Those black ones are interesting but hope the fit the width cut by the roofer. Glad you shared them and give a source to purchase.
Plus I’ve read that if you keep walking on your asphalt roof that it damages it over time, so to only do it when absolutely necessary.
@@nhow4roofer told me the same thing.
@@nhow4 agree, every good roofer will remind you not to walk on the roof especially when weather is hot
Your roof will be fine if walked on for hanging Christmas lights.

I admire your roof work Allyn. I have a 10" on 12" pitch - not getting up there - no way. But, well done!

Love Christmas lights! I've never used C9 LED bulbs I've only ever used the cheap lowes ones, Gonna look into this seems pretty cool
C9 bulbs and c7 are my faves to use on the house. I have the non breakable ones which are awesome. I store them with the clips still on so it makes it easier for our guy to put them up around the roof line in a short period of time

Always light the ridges and they are a pain. These light clips are a pretty neat idea.👍

Sounds like fun !
The black clips are not as noticeable as the white ones too! Definitely a much cleaner look. What are you using for the gutters? Thank you.
these for gutters but only useful if you have detachable bulbs thelawncarenut.com/collections/christmas-lights/products/elite-clip#
Those black clips look way better!!! ❤
I was skeptical at first but really like them now
Hey Allen thanks for the video and new knowledge , good points and looks great your way. Wondering why you didn’t go with the permanent trim lighting LEds that change colors via the app , and can be used all year long for different occasions ?

I've got something in the works. Stay tuned !
I absolutely HATE climbing on the roof. I’m thinking of going with the permanent setups to make my life easier, and to have it for various holidays.

Mr. Allyn, random question: Is there any way to modify your yard mastery backpack sprayer to use a lasco spray gun.
I'm not sure on that one, sorry. It's not a conversion I have every done myself so I'm not sure what it would take. For sure it does have a powerful enough pump, I do know that.

Nice job!
Any chance you could take one of your leaf blowers up there and see if they blow off?
yeah that is a good idea. When I do the next video I'll be sure to test them.
What about the ones going across the gutters or edge of the roof? What mounting method do you use?
I will be making a video about them. These are them: thelawncarenut.com/collections/christmas-lights/products/elite-clip#
The link is not working for the ridgeline clips.
The black clips look like they may work on a metal roof?
I don't think so - for metal roofs you want magnetic clips. I don't have those available but I;m sure you can find them online.
I only wish the spamming ridge clips weren’t so much more expensive than the alternative
“And the rockets' red glare
The bombs bursting in air

Cut to length cord and screw in led are definitely the better way to go.
How come I get a 404 error when I try to go to your link for the spanning ridge clips. Cannot find them on your website.
I'm sorry about that - something happened to the listing - my team will fix it here quickly I hope
Let's get OSHA on that extension ladder, place it 3' above the eave!
Is it possible to do Christmas lights like this on a house with power lines going to it
yes it is, just don't touch the power lines when you are up there.
That isn’t a ridge. That is a hip. The ridge is horizontal. The hip runs down from the ridge to the corners. Great video!!
Bah! Humbug! Too early for Christmas.
😅😅😅
I'll see you on the roof hahaha
how does the ridge clip pro work on a ridge vent
Works just fine . Spans right over them
Did your video show this maybe I missed it?

@Thelawncarenut Roger that love the channel!
But…but what about Halloween lights??
I have something else for that but it won't be installed in time for this Halloween.
Hey, LCN
All i want is one single and 3 dimensional Jerusalem star on my roof.
that would be beautiful! You should make one!
@Thelawncarenut Hahaha!I wish I could. Don't think my son the roofer would approve, but I live on a hill pretty close to the highway and I'd love to do it. A plus is it would be hard for someone to steal.
👀 A C9 LED that's acutally bright?!
I know! These are the best I have found, for sure so much brighter than store bought stuff
that all would be trashed in a Wisconsin winter
yeah if you live somewhere that snows heavy before Christmas it's tough to do ridges at all.
Don't fall off the roof Clark.
I have small LED lights 🤷♂️
Sounds like a personal problem 🤣
Good video, Allyn, but when doing ANYTHING on your roof PLEASE wear a harness for your own safety!! Safety first ALWAYS!!
🙄 yea, cause the average homeowner putting lights up or cleaning gutters harnesses up. Relax, safety patrol.
@I-Teee My nephew was on a friend's roof trying to repair it. He slipped off the roof and fell to the ground, breaking his neck and killing him. Get jellyfish lights or something
I've seen those but they seem expensive and I'm not a fan of anything permanent like that because I change up my display a little bit every year
@@TheLawnCareNut ya agreed. A little too commercial and also ridiculously expensive. Quoted me $4k. No thanks!

@@mobgma so how do you deal with the 3ft of snow? the lights just get buried?
most do not install lights like you have. just around the gutters or eavestrough or soffit.@@TheLawnCareNut
