Great video. I always thought that goldfish was more than just a pet because it has such a long and distinct culture and history. It really is more a national treasure. More Americans are learning to appreciate fancy goldfish in the US.
Michael, your last sentence is one of my goals and why I made this TH-cam channel. I hope not only MORE people here in the USA 🇺🇸 but also all around the world 🌍
My most fond memories of my youth living in Okinawa seeing the Ryukin ; Red cap Oranda & Demekin ( black Moor ) in pet stores there . Your videos are great for the Heart . It takes the stress of Covid19 from my mind at least momentarily
Beautiful style to explain many interesting things about gold fishes. Great videos and correct information makes your blog more interesting for all generation off GF lovers! Bravo and many thanks for it! 👍🙏
Hello Lei, your video stories of the history of goldfish are always fantastic, I had missed the third part. Fantastic traditional paintings and decorations. Best wishes my friend.
Much appreciation for you posting this! There were so many cuties in this video and it was great to see how loved they are; I am however quite confused about how the Chinese view goldfish. I always thought they were revered and loved, and that would make sense considering they're called a 'national treasure' and you see imagery of them everywhere in Chinese culture, but going to China completely changed my view on this. I found live goldfish sold in Children's toys and keychains, went to a fish shop and the shopkeeper used Goldfish as live food for Arowana and Flowerhorns- As a goldfish lover, it's quite distressing to see themeget fin nipped around the tank until only half of it is left swimming. That doesn't seem quite right to treat animals that are considered auspicious in such a manner right? That seems like it'd be more bad luck than anything if you were to believe that Goldfish are auspicious. I would love your thoughts on this as you are knowledgeable in the customs and culture.
It depends on who and where you visited. If you have connection to some high-end Goldfish clubs/farms, you may draw a completely different conclusions. Just like in US, if you visit goldfish section in Walmart or local pet shop, you will for sure be disappointed. However if you know some members of The Goldfish Council (like Gary, Joshua, or Robert), you will be shocked to these beautiful goldfish.
Love this documentary! I watched all parts. Would love to see more of a deep dive into what it is like to be a professional goldfish farmer. More interviews and ins and outs of the trade. I wish I could find high quality single tail varieties. I really like Hibuna, but the closest good breeder is in Hawaii!
You actually made a really good point. Single tail tends to get less attention than other breeds, especially in China. On the other hand, this leads a door for other countries to contribute. For instance, UK added Bristol Shubunkin and US created comet. Thank you my friend
Hi. A nice journy of the goldfish culture in. Chine. Thanks a lot for share it. In my country, Argentina, we lost the hanafusa "pompom" , the breeders don't breed it anymore (sad because i'm looking for it a lot time ago) and bubble-eye is come to not breed it, too.
Obrigado pelo feedback positivo. Amo ter mais brasileiros para assistir seus vídeos. Porém, não falo português. Preciso de mais voluntários para tradução. Você pode ajudar?
Did goldfish originate in China only? How come there are different breeds too? Like chinese ranchu, thai ranchu, and japanese ranchu? And each have their own wen style.
Hi my Friend, thank you for watching. Yes, goldfish Originated from China. Your can refer to many old goldfish textbooks. For instance, the 1st goldfish import to Japan was documented in book 《金鱼养玩草》in 1502. Well documented in Japanese books (see my video in The History of Ranchu th-cam.com/video/Xf2YudYPwBQ/w-d-xo.html). However the breed name is not equal to goldfish origin. Because goldfish have unstable gene, their shape and color will change. With culling process, people can selectively develop a certain breed with a certain attribute that they like. For instance, Chinese and Thai Ranchu are developed from Japanese Ranchu. However the origin of Japanese Ranchu is Chinese egg fish. BTW, I see “Kirin” in your channel name. Do you know the history of Kirin and the definition of Kirin? 🤔 If you are curious, my next video released this Sat on May 23, 2020 will talk all about Kirin goldfish. Let me know your feedback 😄 th-cam.com/video/50OGypm49Qs/w-d-xo.html

Pardon, "a long time ago"
Thank you for sharing this info. Do you normally buy goldfish at pet stores or online in 🇦🇷?
@@GoldfishCorner no, really. I like to visit the pet store ( in A .R we call "acuario") and select by my own the goldfish

This is the last one.
I wish we had a Goldfish Map for America
The Goldfish Council may be working on it.
@@GoldfishCorner that would be awesome!
