Thank you for the lovely comment. I put loads of videos on my website about Zoom and they are very popular. You might find them useful. teachertrainingvideos.com/Zoom
Russell, you do a great job of teaching, explaining and showing . . . I have been watching at least one of your videos per day and I can't thank you enough! All of my adult ESOL classes are now on Zoom as are my Civics and Spanish classes. I could not have done this without your help so THANK YOU!!! Cathy from Virginia
Thanks, Nives. Hope you are doing well. Thanks for continuing to subscribe to my channel. Have you seen the other Zoom videos? some of them quite popular. Cheers, Russell.
My students don't trust Zoom anymore and are asking me to use Teams. I prefer Zoom, but ... I have to heed the voice of the clients! You explain things so well that you should do the same good job and tackle Teams for adult online courses!
Hi Tommaso. Thanks for commenting once again. Teams is being pushed on a lot of educators right now. Zoom can't replace it as a Virtual Learning Environment, that's not what it is. But you could teach using a combination of both. I know people who work in Adult Education who are doing exactly this. But institutions often fear the security and safeguarding aspects of Zoom, so that's why I made this tutorial. Russell.
Hi there. Yes you can. When I record my tutorials I use the webcam through Camtasia, but have to switch it off so that Zoom can also access it, as both can't use it at the same time. In your video settings, you should be able to choose what audio and video inputs you want to use. Russell.
Hi These videos are really useful. They are so concise and help get so much information in such a short time. Thank you Russel for all the great work you are doing. You talked about Video settings, among others. Is there a way to disable the participants' videos? When I disable the videos, participants can easily turn them back on. Can I control who can turn their camera on? Thanks in anticipation of your reply.
You can disable their videos in settings. The latest security features also have options within the meeting for the host to disable these. Depending on which version of Zoom being used.
Thank you, Russell. Very informative again. Is it possible to have separate share sreens for each Breakout Room? For example: Give one room a text. Give the other room written questions for that text. The 'Question' room asks the 'Answer' room for answers.
The students in each breakout room can share whatever they want in the room as long as you give them option to share, so each breakout room could be doing something completely different.
Hi Pavan. It should be in meetings settings. Navigate to the Co-host option on the Meeting tab and verify that the setting is enabled. If the setting is disabled, click the Status toggle to enable it. Within a meeting you then can assign someone to be a co-host. They don't have all the same rights as a host but allow for some things. Check out this article by Zoom as it explains in more detail: support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/206330935-Enabling-and-adding-a-co-host
Hi Ben. I've looked into this and it appears that with a free account you can change the host, but only in premium can you have co-hosts. support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/206330935-Enabling-and-adding-a-co-host
Hi Russell, Q: I am just working with a couple of private students and only tried Zoom Basic. The screen looks different than yours. Do I still have the possibilty of others coming on to my lessons ? I think the directions you gave can be figured out, just a different setting look.
Hi Tim. That's a good question. I only have the FREE (basic) version, too. Apart from a couple of extended sessions, your GROUP meetings will have a 40 minute time limit. Obviously, there is no time limit in 1-2-1 private lessons. This video deals mostly with the security options within Zoom, but there are other settings in basic in this tutorial here: www.teachertrainingvideos.com/key_settings_when_teaching_with_zoom
Hi Russell, thanks a lot for the video. I have been using zoom -I have a paid version- for over a year now and was very happy with it. However, I've just received communication from the Spanish police advising Zoom users to uninstall the app as there are lots of security issues coming up right now. What do you think as all my classes are now via Zoom? Thanks a lot!
Paloma, that was fake news. That was not sent from the police. I have a number of contacts in Spain and the Guardian Civil has put out a notice to say it was fake.
@@ttvRussell Thanks, a lot. In any case, I followed your advice and I have given all my students assurances that nobody will come into our classes. Back to teaching tomorrow. I will try to write a brief post in my blog and refer my readers to your channel, if I may.
Hi Russel, I see in your screen shot of the invitation url and password that the password is still only numbers. On my latest update it seems that Zoom had changed it to alpha numeric for improved security I assume. Thanks for your informative videos. Deon.
"It is possible for example to turn off student webcams on entry and it is also possible to control the audio" when you say this, does it mean it is the same as audion control? I found controlling the webcam different!.
Hello. You can start meetings with participant video on or off (disable in settings). Participants can change this during the meeting, unless you want to override this. In the latest version of Zoom with security button you can disabled these during a meeting.
Thanks for this video Russel, I have a simple but important question. I teach in a lower primary level, students do not have ZOOM account, their parents help them to join the meeting and parents' names appear, is there a way of changing participants' names? Thanks again for your easy to follow the video.
It's a great question. Students can hover over their names in the participants list, then right click and they can see that they can change their names.
Sorry about this question. Is it possible to view all the breakout rooms at once instead of joining them one by one? I want to view all the breakout room and I only hover with my mouse on any room and I can hear students. Thank you
Hi Hamed. I could see why you *might* want to do this. However, I don't think it is possible for the host to join all the breakout rooms simultaneously. In fact, that might defeat the point of them. If you think of a classroom situation, a teacher would monitor pairs or groups of students, not all at the same time. It is good to let some learners get on with a task without the teacher present. You can stay in the main Zoom meeting room, of course. Russell.
Hi! Is there a way where kids can’t change their name to another students name? The issue is many of my students use other accounts that aren’t their school emails and have a funky username. So I’ve given them permission to change their name but I have had students posing as other students and causing disruptions that way
Really good question and I don''t know how to control that. If they turn on their webcams you can see if they are using the correct names but otherwise it is difficult to control. You have got me thinking!! Stephanie I have added more free Zoom videos here www.teachertrainingvideos.com/Zoom
Unfortunately, even after trying all setting for over a year now, I haven't been able to prevent Zoom bombing. You video is indeed useful but for Zoom bomber who intends to spoil the fun for others, actually join in with a name which can be as big as a paragraph of nonsense/shit/filth. There's no limit to a definite no. of characters as names. And hence, the trouble. The most unfortunate part is that meet too has the same problem. Any help??
it is a hard one. I never just share a link. I made sure that people have signed up to the event and that gives me some control but 100% control is not possible. If you use Zoom Webinar you have much more control as no use of CAM/Audio. I am sorry to hear you have had so many problems
@@ttvRussell Thanks for taking time out to answer my question. If only they had restricted the characters in naming (both Zoom & Meet), it would have ended all my problems because I had explored well to control. I have been benefitting a lot from your videos. Thank you for the videos. It has been of great help all through the lockdown. I would request you for a video on ELT resource platform. I did attend your webinar on English Sensation and One more video of yours that I watched yesterday but both are paid platforms. They are definitely excellent platforms but a platform similar to sensation that is free. Thank you once again for your time.

Can I use external camera & webcam for Zoom webinar

Russell Stannard (Teacher Training Videos) ok thank you for response.
so why was the polling feature removed? or is it available with a school license?
It's a webinar feature, I understand, only available with a school licence or pro account.

Is there any option that make the participants can't record the screen (basically the class) or take screenshot
You can't really stop that. People can easily screen record. They have hundreds of options to do that.
Excellent - Thank you :-)

I think co-host is a premium feature I can't see it in my settings where it is located in yours.

Why don't you have same videos for Teams as per Zoom?
Hello again. I haven't got much experience of using Teams, but I do understand that a lot of educators are now having to use it extensively.
