Hi, "The Kings of France"! As a french history (specially French revolution and napoleonic era) enthusiast, I really enjoy and appreciate your videos, you make them very concise and interesting, specially because of the images and music you use (I love classical music and painting too, and I find your taste very refined). I hope this channel gets bigger. Warm greetings from Ecuador 🇪🇨
Still Louis Philippe I had to follow, and Napoléon III, although I never really consider him a part of the succession... But you are right that their days were definitely counted.
I enjoy your videos immensely. They are so very informative and well narrated. You have a very pleasing voice and you enunciate every word so precisely. A true pleasure.
Hello, I am just catching up on your wonderful, fascinating and brilliant historical videos. This was absolutely marvellous, beautifully presented and narrated as always. Charles X certainly did not learn from the French Revolution or his exile in England where he left enormous debts on his return to France. He sounds quite stupid and delusional and received what he deserved and was fortunate not to have lost his head! Xxxx
Talleyrand said it 🙂 He was SO right lol But, to be fair, he said it about the emigrant aristocrats who came back to France after 1814. Louis XVIII was a more clever than his younger brother. He knew things had changed. Charles X ? Not a bit ! lol
Paradoxically, if any of the last Bourbons had potential to make a good constitutional monarch... it was the one the revolution had murdered. And before that happened, Louis XVI pointed out that his two younger brothers were "more royalist than the king".
Charles X and other members of his family are actually buried in the crypt of a monastery in Gorizia,Italy -right on the border with Slovenia -but of course it was once part of the Austrian empire. And as a postscript -is the 1830 Revolution in Paris which deposed Charles X the setting for the musical "Les Miserables" based on Victor Hugo of course?Or is the setting the 1848 Revolution which deposed Louis Phillipe?
I have doublechecked, according to my information the monestary is effectively in Slovenia though. The setting for Les Miserables is the June Rebellion in 1832.
I don't really know of much books in english. My sources are usually not from English books, but I looked for you and I could find Charles X of France: His Life and Times. Vincent W. Beach on Amazon. I have not read it though.
These videos you make are always fascinating and informative. And it is always quite comical to see how they bring out those nostalgic for and more than just historically interested in monarchy/royalty. Of course, many of these people are also eager to tell us how they are related to Charlemagne, or how their great great great great grandfather...well, you get the point. Salute!
Charles would have done well to heed the words of Shakespeare: "...When lenity and cruelty play for a kingdom, the gentler gamester is the soonest winner."

Funny isn't it that all the great European royal houses never hit the XX mark. In the UK 'eight' seems to be the cut off point. Edward VIII, Henry VIII...

You are correct Megan, it is named after Philippe II D'Orléans, Regent of France for the minor Louis XV. As to videos about Beinville and D'Iberville, I might consider them but it'll be at a later time as I slowly want to start focussing at an earlier stage of French history.

Yes. Funny fact - King Juan Carlos abdicated in 2014 in favor of his 48 year old son Philip, who is now king as Philip VI. When Juan Carlos was asked why he stepped down he said he didn't want his son to grow old waiting for the throne. Now I wonder who he could possibly have been taking a shot at with that reply lol.
One could also consider Charles' successor Louis-Philippe as a Bourbon as he was from a sideline of this family. And in Italy (when it was still a geographical term...) there were Bourbon rulers after Charles, in Parma and Naples-Sicily
