I met Tom Connors once, when I was about 4 years old. Someone introduced him to me as "Stomping Tom", so I said "Hello Mr. Tom". He laughed, and bought me a grape soda.
My late father would often say:"If Stompin' Tom was an American, he'd be a millionaire". We as Canadians don't appreciate our own. At least that's the way it used to be, now, times are changing . I'm originally from North Vancouver, he wrote the song:"When the bridge came tumbling down" that was about the second narrows accident (it happened before I was around, but we learn that "19 men were drowned, so you could get to the other side, of old Vancouver town" Tom was great for teaching us Canadian History.
It’s not that we aren’t respectful of who we have as musical artists, tragically hip proves that enough, it’s just that there’s so little of us and so many of them. Today, for every Canadian, there’s 12 US citizens.
Tom Connors is in my opinion..a true Canadian Legend! We were raised on his songs therefore making him a complete connection to our lives! Thanks so much..❤❤❤❤
From Ontario(Toronto/Scarborough, so a city boy of sorts), and I love this song so much. So proud to be a Canadian that it makes me want to go out and meet new people every day because we are so awesome.
He got this song right , gives me goosebumps , drove across Canada in 2011 with my uncle after my aunt died , God bless this country family and friends
This makes me want to cry, Canada is such a beautiful and wonderful place. Our people are so divided against each other today, they dont realize they are all the same. Proud Canadians!
Back in the 5th grade, my teacher used to play this record, and thanks to him and Stompin' Tom i learned all the Canadian provinces that way. Thanks for posting it's good to hear it again.
This late, great, legit talent, was one of the best. Love hearing My Stompin Grounds on the Petro Canada ad on tv. Any time I hear Stompin Tom on tv , is ok 👍 by me. Canada 🇨🇦 for life!
Stompin Tom was a Legend in his own time and will be for all eternity. Likely the most patriotic Canadian that has ever lived, he makes me proud to be a Canadian. RIP Stompin Tom, you will live on for all time!
where ever you find a heart that's kind, you're in a part of my stompin' grounds!!! well put...R.I.P. Tom... Now you'll be singin this song to the Lord...
Sad loss indeed. A great Canadian! as I listened to this song, I smiled at the words "a piece of PEI" as my roots are there thanks to my dad, even started life there and spent a number of years in Quebec, so hearing Tom singing this song got me a little emotional, and naturally of the sad passing of Stompin Tom .R.I.P you brought a lot of pleasure to a lot of people xxx
The amount of patriotism this made me feel, but not in necessarily a “traditional” sense, but rather in the way that I would love to welcome people here to be our guests and neighbours in a country as greats as this one!
My dad had all his records and this is how I got to appreciate his music. I still listen to STC’s music today, even have a bunch on my phone when I get nostalgic and remember my dad.
Curtis Shukin, my parents had a couple of Stompin' Tom albums, and my father used to say: "If STC was an American, he'd be a millionaire" as I mentioned earlier, we as Canadians just don't appreciate our own enough.
Wow at 3:29 thats me standing in the centre. What a lot of good memories seeing Stompin Tom and more at The Horseshoe Tavern. I still have the napkin he autographed for me.
14 years ago I did my best to get ST to attend a pre-death "funeral" for my hubby who had a couple of days to live After arrangements were made he disappeared...haven't heard anything about it since then...lol. I was advised however that if he's too drunk he wont be on the plane. Priceless. Didn't matter - still played his music all was great. Management did say it was a 50/50 chance he was going to attend - might as well take the chance.
Same here! Now in the Facebook days, most of my friends aren't Canadian - and the ones that are, are too young to remember much of Stompin' Tom. So this, I had to share.. every time I hear this song on the ad I start stomping (in bare feet on the tile floor like a complete idiot) and am momentarily annoyed that I'm not getting the sounds of a cowboy boot on plywood. 😂
When I was a kid I got a total thrill watching him kick the s*** out of a piece of plywood. You could take a quarter of an inch off with a couple of songs
Years ago, I thought that the plywood bit was a real gimic. Maybe it was. That is now a very moot point. I have developed an appreciation for the great talent and contributions to Canada by this great storyteller. Sorry that we lost him over 5 years ago.
I just got back from skinners pond. I think every canadian should visit and bring a designated driver. The stompin tom center has locals playing stompin tom in a bar. 10$ tour of his memorabilia and school. His old house is not ready yet but worth every cent.
I love stompin Tom Connors songs, my favorite are My Stompin Grounds, Spud The Bud, The hockey song. My absolute favorite would have to be Bud The Spud because it represents my home and the potatoes grown there.

Ano Elegance: I absolutely disagree with you. That blond-haired, middle-aged woman looked like she was choked up with emotion and the rest of the crowd looks as if they were hanging on Stompin' Tom's words. I was lucky enough to attend two of Stompin' Tom's concerts in Red Deer, Alberta, and I know for a fact that NO ONE was bored or as Daniel Kling said, "falling asleep". Just because an audience doesn't jump up and down and scream and yell doesn't mean they are not enjoying the music.
That was being polite in a small venue in those days... You enjoyed yourself in silence while the artist played, then you whooped and showed your appreciation.
My dad and. Tom we’re friends and worked together as young men
I’ve said for years that he should be remembered as a true Canadian. A monument or some recognition would be nice.
Theres a statue in Sudbury :)
Love it
I live not even a hour away from where he lived in pei
He is remembered. There’s a statue in Sudbury, The Hockey Song gets played regularly at hockey games (including every Toronto Maple Leafs home game), and it’s in the Canadian Songwriter’s Hall of Fame.
He's got several, thank god
This guy is a legend if you listen to his lyrics. He talks about all of Canada. He is Canada. He gets it. RIP.
No way is this song about Canada? I don't believe you

I'm an American, but lived only a few miles from the Canadian border. I loved Stompin' Tom from the first time I heard him from the radio!
Stompin Tom deserves to be on Canadas new $5.00 bill. He is a true Canadian who sang about Canadas history and the people he met along the way.
If you dont like stompin man Connors then you are not from around here!
This is good song.
@Joseph-Denis Noël there's definitely nothing wrong with Hank Snow, that's for sure.
@Joseph-Denis Noël though I don't know why you'd feel the need to say you didn't like Tom or this video...why not just say nothing?

How can anyone thumbs down a Canadian musical Icon ?!?! .....R I P STC.....your fellow Newfies will always respect you and your musical legend !!!
The man who broke all attendance records at the Horseshoe.
I hope to tell ya, the Seahorse too!
Keep coming back to watch this. No Canadian artist ever loved Canada as much as Stompin' Tom Connors. He is an icon.
Tom Connors is in my opinion..a true Canadian Legend! We were raised on his songs therefore making him a complete connection to our lives! Thanks so much..❤❤❤❤
My grandparents and my father lived on the same road as Stompin' Tom and they said he was a really caring, and nice guy. R.I.P Stompin Tom Connors
I was fortunate to enough to make it to Peterborough to attend his CELEBRATION OF LIFE!
He could have made millions in the US. One of my favourite performers. RIP Tom.
From Ontario(Toronto/Scarborough, so a city boy of sorts), and I love this song so much. So proud to be a Canadian that it makes me want to go out and meet new people every day because we are so awesome.
Whoever push dislike on this is just sad. There should be no dislike button for this guy..
Shame on radio stations, who did not play his music. He was a national treasure.
Shane?
He got this song right , gives me goosebumps , drove across Canada in 2011 with my uncle after my aunt died , God bless this country family and friends
I remember meeting him in the 1970s. He was and still is Mr Canada.
