Honestly the divisive responses to soul hackers 2 has made me way more interested in playing it, though it wouldn’t surprise me if i end up enjoying this more than SMT V. Also hi Nam.
tbh i feel the same, the game getting mixed reviews and seeming like overall mediocre makes me way more interested esp as i didnt like smtv in many aspects
god i hate the soul matrix. it is the literal embodiment of every exaggerated take people have had about persona 3's dungeons. hell, this is what you get when you make tartarus/the tv world/mementos _not randomized_ like people so desperately want out of a remake. and i can guarantee people will still think it's a good idea after they've experienced it. i beat the game at level 64 on hard. i also felt like it was easy to run out of MP a lot of the time. there were some story fights i had to grind a couple levels for because they were so tanky, but the final boss actually felt the least damage spongey oddly enough. money management felt okay. i never felt like i had more than i knew what to do with, but there were a few points where i would run really low from a COMP upgrading spree. i always prioritized stack boosting skills for my party members' soul matrix stuff. despite typically preferring japanese voices, i actually stuck with english for this game. i wasn't a fan of ringo's jp voice from the trailers because it just sounded like aigis again. i like the english ringo's sass, even if it does kinda contradict her character. the character motivations in this story are very questionable and unclear, which is a shame because the dilemma they're trying to present is actually kinda good. we want all violence to stop, but free will basically contradicts that goal and yet we value it so much. life is full of adversities and contradictions, but those contradictions are part of what make it beautiful and what make people human. i also completely forgot about the societal stagnation thing because they did nothing with it that i noticed.
Currently playing trough it I love the style and Character of the game. So far every time a new character weather it's a party member or just a random shopkeep i just repeat "Oh i like you."
The ending where they go to the spacestation to fight the ultimate lifeform flying twords earth was pretty cool. The super sonic controls were a bit scuffed though.
Yeah, from what I’ve heard from others on top of my (admittedly) short time with the game, it really is just fine. If you truly want to play it or have it in your collection, go for it; it’s fun, has a good enough story, and the characters are all quite fun, a few of which are even elevated by excellent English voice acting. However, uhh…yeah, potentially the automatic game of the year came out last month. If you haven’t played it yet, Xenoblade 3 is actually…man, incredible and fantastic don’t cover it. If you have $60 and want a game, I would pick up Monolithsoft’s latest masterpiece over Atlus’s fun little experience. And yes I’m aware Elden Ring also came out this year
I don't even like XC3 and I agree. Personally I feel like Xenoblade 3 completely flops on multiple things including the first half of the story. The second half is great and is some of the best moments in any XC games but I'd even say SH2 story is better than XC3's first half. The thing is the fact that XC3 actually had good moments that rise above the rest makes it better than just a constant stream of "it's passable" Also Live a Live came out recently before XC3 and Trails from Zero is getting an official localization so I'd say those are the best JRPGs lately Edit: now that I played Trails from Zero....just play that instead, the overall drip feed of world building and character development is just amazing, but can be jarring for those who don't like slow pacing.

The thing about Ringo been a new born it's the body that's a new born she is a part of Aion just given her own personality she still has access to Aion a sentient existence that transcends human intelligence and watches over the world of humans, just think of the AI's we have today yeah there not on RIngo's level but this is the future you're viewing her by the standards of today's AI so yeah she is going to be more advanced then days AI. The way of think that a AI that is a part of a super intelligence not under standing thing's is wrong it's the emotions that AI's don't get and have to learn about. Ringo is a advanced AI so she can work stuff out easy enough.
Soul Hackers 2 definitely feels like a game designed by Atlus *blank*. Like a part of Atlus that isnt their main team but is trying to maintain the traditional Atlus ideas and such. While Soul Hackers 2 does have a good amount of stuff I enjoy like the characters, weapon upgrades and such, it just has a lot of either undeveloped features like the Sabbath and a lot of just frankly quite weird changes like the removal of the risk and reward system with demon recruiting and the real lack of flair with the dungeons. The Soul Matrix had a lot of potential to be really interesting as side character-focused dungeons to learn their story but the lack of actual design to it and, ironically, the lack of character each Soul Matrix dungeon has turns them from super cool on paper to really just a slog to get through. I very much see Soul Hackers 2 as a fun but flawed experience that has a lot of potentially amazing features that I imagine will become amazing when given more time for future games e.g. Persona, SMT and potentially more Soul Hackers games. I do enjoy the game but its nowhere near what I expect of Atlus and I do hope they see the community on this. Im excited to see what their next project is and hope to see some of the systems within Soul Hackers 2 that were underdone be properly done there. Also for god sakes, can we please reduce the amount of dialogue/dialogue overlap during battles. Hearing the same 5 voice lines over and over overlapping with one another as I try to jam to the music and think of what to do in battle is really grading. Same with the nav character in this game. I like her as a character but dont need to hear her every other second.
17:20 just a note as well, by pressing a key under in the COMP smith(PC is Default R) you get to see where you needa go and who you needa kill rather than having to search through the whole demon log first

My take on SH2 (SMT is my fav series) : Pros : - BEAUTIFUL looking game especially with the DLC costumes and BGM (Love my SMT4 samurai costumes) - BANGER battle themes. Normal, regular boss and phantom society boss themes are FIRE ! - Demon recon is a cool mechanic - Normal difficulty is actually challenging and it only goes up from there. - GREAT character customization between accessories, mystiques, COMP upgrades, skills you get from soul matrix progression and being able to equip a demon for each party member. - The party members are interesting. - The combat is fun with the sabbaths and commander skills (even without the press turn system) Cons : - boring dungeon design - Ringo's walkspeed OH GOD ... - being underleveled and getting rejected during demon negotiations all the time because the party leveling curve definitely doesn't go on par with the encountered demon levels. - Kinda meh story ? But i'm still kinda early into the game to give a final judgement Overall i can say it's a good RPG. Not on the level of the big SMT titles but not as bad as some reviews are making it out to be. Also, two quick but IMPORTANT tips : - turn off loading screen tips for WAY FASTER load times - Set Ringo to be at the center of the screen and the camera to be as far as possible. WAY BETTER visibility.

Also to expand on the discussion about items, you can also see which demons drop what by pressing square (on PS4) in the shop to see what enemy drop specific materials.
Also as far as "talking protagonists" goes... would Chad Yu from the P4A games count? Or Flynn in SMT4A for that matter? Just wondering for argument's sake 🤔
Personally I think there was room for negotiation as well and getting demons from your demons, I also think that there should have been "treasure chests" as well.
Hey I wanted to say that I’d love to see more discussions if you find yourself wanting to do more. It was super cool to hear all three of your stances and helped get a better grasp of what each of you disliked. I had seen Tony and Fither’s videos before this and I felt like I understood their pov’s much better as well as being able to hear your thoughts as well Nam, in an unscripted environment like the usual videos
Great discussion guys and i value your opinion of SMT/Persona games highly, Nam, so i will take your advice and pull out of this video at the story spoiler warning because, although you guys make some great points, i think i will try this game for myself (once it goes on sale,lol). I'm interested in this game, but the camera movements during battle seem very nauseating. :( The switch between camera angles happens so fast I feel like my head is on a drunk tripod.
I finished the game earlier, while I think the game is not one of atlus’s best, I don’t mind because i don’t think it was really trying to be. While not everything worked, I liked the new ideas brought forward, I thought the battle system and character customization were great, visually and audibly it’s fantastic, I liked the characters, and while I thought the story wasn’t perfect I thought it was better than it had any right to. This game felt like it was made by a b team in atlus that just wanted to do their own thing, and while it wasn’t perfect what we got I still thought was really enjoyable. The dlc is bs though I only got the one piece of free dlc and said fuck the rest.
I am really enjoying this game....with that being said if I was going to pick a "third pillar" I would have picked DDS. SMT you use demons, Persona you use "demons" of the psyche, DDS you are the demon.
SMT V had been my most disappointing Switch purchase to date, and launch day DLC was such a scum move I'm very hesitant to give Atlus any more money, so I really appreciate getting insight into this new release
The reception of SMT V has been crazy because you either hear people that absolutely loved it, or absolutely hated it. Personally I don't think it beats SMT IV, but it's a great game imo.
Holy shit. My biggest complaint about Soul Hackers 2 was the loading times and here I find out that you can fix that with a menu option? Why would they design intentionally awful loading times?
Agree with y’all on how it doesn’t stack up to other Atlus greats. So much of the game feels middling, and worthy of the 7/10 I’m generally seeing for reviews. I often find lots to love in 7s, but it’s difficult to say Soul Hackers is a franchise pillar alongside Persona and mainline SMT. Makes me bummed out a bit because I really want more spin-off franchises, particularly like a Strange Journey 2 or DeSu 3, but I’m worried Atlus will see the sales numbers for this and think “well, more Persona it is”.
I think people are just getting too hyped and have so many expectations to this game since most people that would keep an eye on this game or get this game day one must be fans of Atlus games. But Atlus just seems to treat this game as a little dessert. Or maybe this game is just a little test for engine like Cathrine. Anyway I think this game is ok and I hope they will continue to bring us good contents.
For me, I played on hard, it was really only demon tamer fights that gave me a ton of shit, even then they only took me like one or two attempts I just went back and evaluated who I should get rid of first and what the weaknesses were and whatnot, i found them really fun honestly
For the first 4 so hours I wanted to burn my copy and hate this game forever. Now, after everything has opened up and available to me regarding demon fusion circus, different dungeons, and soul matrix+character hangouts, I absolutely love this game. (Especially on hard.) I love the soundtrack, and the TMS team cyber punk visuals grew on me. What Atlus fans didn’t get in smtv with character development and depth, we get here. It’s a great smt entry that struggles to find it’s footing, but once it does, it DOES. Reminds me of a slow burn jrpg from back in the day. This game is a dungeon crawler. It’s not about blowing you away with level design, it’s about fighting nonstop and managing a party+compendium amidst a myriad of sidequests. I implore fans to give it a college try, I literally HATED it at first and now 20 hours later I can’t stop.

You can adjust the camera in the options, they're pretty extensive and can zoom it out really far, change the position, etc.

After coming from Persona 2 EP this game was a rude awakening I found SH2 bosses very very very hard playing on normal btw
