We actually tried something very similar on stream by hacking the Demi Fiend out of existence; if this run is half as interesting as that one was, this video is going to be a riot. Great job, my dude!
you don't even need to hack, the PC version of HD has a glitch where you can use your mouse to "return to stock" demons that are already in your stock. Press down+leftclick enough times and you can dismiss the Demifiend to your bench, the only way to get him back is randomly with Beckon Call
The fact that you and Deus decided to release a video on the same niche game on the same challenge and on the same day is just facinating, it's Cat Concerto VS Rhapsody Rabbit levels of coincidence Edit: Looks like Deus delayed the release of the video, he just said on the community post a while ago
One thing to note. If you want to do this challenge (or just play the game) on Hard mode, but the increased shop prices turn you off from it. The HD remaster let's you switch difficulty mid-game, so you can simply change the difficulty to normal whenever you need to shop for items, then switch back to hard mode
44:30 correct: it's not a glitch that he can spam Beast Eye, he just for whatever reason doesn't have a limit to the amount of times he can cast it in a turn, unlike every other enemy. It's just completely random whether he stacks them a bunch and wipes you; he's not actually calculating how many press turns he needs to get a kill or anything. That's also why some of the viral videos of him show him continuing to spam Beast Eye even he's already rammed the maximum amount of press turns at one time.
@@paul.1337 It seems to be working exactly as intended because it's been maintained in the remaster of the game and every other version. There's actually a glitch on the PC version that lets you remove Demifiend from the party permanently by returning him to the stock using the mouse instead of button inputs. In the Chronicle version on Hard mode, Lucifer's Root of Evil move also becomes a dekaja. So not only does he have more HP, his phase 3 move becomes even more dangerous.
It's pretty funny that Demi-Fiend is considered the most powerful playable in the game because it only becomes true in the late game. Even then, if you ignore items (yes they technically make him unbelievably OP) he's only the best DPS so he's definitely replaceable. Having a dead slot on the team, though, is pretty tough. This is something I do have problem post nocturne gameplay wise where the avatar becomes best attacker and everyone plays support. the Demi-Fiend isn't the only one who can summon demons out of your stock. Baphomet learns a skill that can summon them out too & it can be passed on to others but I think it's random with who gets summoned & with how difficult the run already was I'm sure you didn't have an extra skill slot for something like that.
There's a TH-camr called Deus who's about to release his own No Demi Fiend run but he modded the demi fiend out of the game, can't wait to see how different these are going to be
Just a quick mention, not sure if it was pointed out, but it is possible for demons to summon other demons. Thanks for explaining that ending! And great job on the run 😁
One thing I've always wondered about Nocturne is if it's possible to, like, go through the Assembly of Nihilo *before* the Mantra raid it. Or like tell Gozu-Tennoh to go jump off a cliff and have to deal with the Mantra while you're there. Been through that part of the game like 4-5 times and legit looked for an option like that.
The single thing I want to comment on is how I'm kinda annoyed to hear how people keep calling the True Demon the "true" ending of the game. That ending was ADDED in the maniax version and then carried over to the western release. If anything, it's the SECRET ending of the game. Amala Labyrinth is the optional dungeon along with its challanges, includng Lucifer. He's not a "true final boss" , but just an additional challange, a super boss, if you will. The Freedom ending is obviously intended true ending of the game. Even if it's shallow and I hate it like many people also do.
The way I got uneasy when you said a dungeon got hate was unreal. I just knew you were going to explain an actual annoyance. At least you have good advice throughout the run.
You can glitch DF off your party on the SMT3 HD Remaster. After that, you're free to actually do a no-DF run, albeit with the inability to use items and perform negotiations. You still can only have 3 demons in party, so a demon should have Beckon Call in its movepool to fill that slot. Do note Beckon Call can resummon DF and throw your run away
Amazing, just watched This, and both Persona party only back to back. With such can I recommend that you cap off the Persona trio with a Vanilla P5 run with these rules? I know from personal experience futzing around with the Royal version the AI isn't bad, and Baton pass could be interesting to see how they use it, or just throw it away and always spam it to Joker. Still, can't wait to see what comes next!
It may not be the best game out there, but I really like it, specially because of how old it looks, seriously, there's something about how dated it looks that I love, it could be that it's on 3d but V is also in 3d I don't have the same feelings for it
No man, on SMT 3 HD he consistently heals himself at around 15% and he will consistently debuffs u with RNG. The trick was to just become automatic. I used demi fiend commands but I was consistently defense buffed, debilitated him every round, had a party null to ailments, and 2 pierce attackers. Just keep doing it over and over and eventually he gets risky and forgets to fully heal himself, that's when u take him out. (Of course I'm talking about TDE hard mode - Lucifer fight)
i hate how you cant really run a magic demi fiend if you want to do tde all because pierce doesnt affect magic. if it did, like later games, then magic and physical would be rather balanced with eachother in this game.
@@mikeysaurlol usually strength and magic share a wierd balance with eachother. strength gets the raw numbers, but magic often can take advantage of weaknesses and generate more turns as a result. pre smt4 physical skills also have the downside in some peoples eyes that they cost hp. in smt 4 it takes very long to get good strength skills from what i hear and since nothing has defense, and you need mp to use physical skills anyway, people just go magic in that game since energy drain can not only kill enemies but also restore your entire mp pool in like one use. smt5 is pretty good at the balance act, but sadly really encourages you to pick 2 elements rather then being the versatile being that mages usually are. and even then the final boss just gives you a big f u to your magic build. dds in that regard was godly for strength and magic players. simply because of the ability to change your skillset whenever. that allowed mage players to focus on an element on a per fight basis, allowing you to min max and get the weaknesses. something you cant do in 5 cause its near impossible to get some of the endgame essences back.
@@Flutterdark_ you have some good points yeah, physical skills still cost HP in persona though right? when i played persona 4 i thought it was all pretty balanced because for the main character you can swap to a magic focused persona to get extra turns, and by far the character that did the most damage wasn't even my physical mc, but it was yukiko with her severe fire skills
yeah in persona they cost hp but in persona stuff also feels way more balanced because not only can mc switch, but also late game enemies just dont give you extra turns at all. and since you can swtich mid fight you dont ever feel locked into anything. in general i like these games alot more when i can adapt to the situation. not be completely f'ed cause a boss NULLS MY ENTIRE FUCKING BUILD and i cant change it (looking at you smtv final boss) yes i know smt5 gave everyone piercing skills but when the strength mc gets A SEVERE ALMIGHTY STRENGTH SKILL and magic gets JACK FUCKING SHIT it sucks. (megidolean doesnt count its damage sucks) @@mikeysaurlol
@@Flutterdark_ very fair points, though im playing smtv for the first time right now and going for a strength build lmao, maybe a good middleground would be a mix between persona and smt? i had an idea recently thats similar to equipping persona's but instead you as the protag can transfer your soul into demons???, and your full party is demons, like in deus' video of a similar challenge where he got rid of demifiend with a glitch and it changed it so that the demon in the first slot became the character that if they die you get a game over, i personally really like building a protag for the whole game, but i feel like how persona does it is a good mix between both seeing as you can always change, maybe they can just have a story where you play as demons the whole time and its like smt4 where the whole party needs to die for a game over, i think it'd be sick if you can choose your main character and change it from a bunch of demons, almost like starter pokemons lmfao
This is impossible right off the bat. Just being there means he’s absorbing targeted attacks, and you can’t have him dead because you instantly game over if he does.
Haven't watched yet but I suspect it's not that bad if you make an ultra tanky build focusing on making demifiend as hard to kill as possible. I remember trying to play a run kinda like that though I never finished it but mostly cause I got bored lol. Though it wasn't a challenge run more like a quirky build run so I could still use items and do other useful actions which made things a lot easier. Still, the press turn system kinda makes massing not that bad as long as you aren't passing a flashing turn, and since losing demifiend is your loss condition having him be built purely for survival can make the game easier in some ways. Though losing combat items and the ability to switch up your team in combat AND to negotiate (that's a big one) is probably going to make some part of the run really tough. I suspect the early and late game will be the rough part but the vast majority of the game should be fine once you get going.
"Man what the fuck" I hope hardtype makes its way to pc hd sometime. Also why did they do that with Lucifer? The fuck. I was super interested why you did that version specifically.

Great job on this run Nam! Also, do you think SMTIV is possible without Flynn?
Amazing, just watched This, and both Persona party only back to back. With such can I recommend that you cap off the Persona trio with a Vanilla P5 run with these rules? I know from personal experience futzing around with the Royal version the AI isn't bad, and Baton pass could be interesting to see how they use it, or just throw it away and always spam it to Joker. Still, can't wait to see what comes next!
Blitzball is coming...
"Victory, victory, victory!"
- the Besaid Aurochs
You know you could cheese the Riders by petrifying their minions? I think only the Pale Rider's Loas are immune to that.
can you beat strange journey without the pro- oh wait you basically already do that anyways
Daisoiju is one of the best fiends and demons overall.
Despite me using the Switch version (and my first was SMT4), I can understand why this entry is so beloved by the community.
It was a hidden gem almost 20 years ago
It may not be the best game out there, but I really like it, specially because of how old it looks, seriously, there's something about how dated it looks that I love, it could be that it's on 3d but V is also in 3d I don't have the same feelings for it
SMT 3 Challenges are always entertaining. Great vid, nam. Thanks!
I'd love to watch this video, but haven't beaten 3 yet
>amaterasu
>him
About that...
I haven't watched this yet but i better see dante
for metatron he spams dekaja/kunda in phase one but then he forgets he has them
Shoutout to the sponsor, ambitious to include a Karaoke minigame with one singular song
anyway back to Nam's hell
isnt ramen the same minigame?
i hate how you cant really run a magic demi fiend if you want to do tde all because pierce doesnt affect magic. if it did, like later games, then magic and physical would be rather balanced with eachother in this game.
yeah strength is broken in nocturne, though it is in most smt games, smt 4 and 5 too mostly
Dropping an hour of peak? just like that? absolutely UNBELIEVABLE! >:[
How was I watching this and not realizing it was Nam damn I'm dumb
Without protagonist kinda remind me devil children series where you can fight only your devils
"for obvious reasons"
... No... I mean, to people who played the game, maybe. But I haven't, and I'm sure I'm not the only one
They should add a demi-fiend fight in the next persona game
i saw the title and was like "there is no way that he is doing this on hard mode"
well guess i was wrong lmao
Probably a ton of ppl told u already but if u pay the dante dlc for the HD remaster luci won't heal and root of evil won't remove buffs and debuff
This is impossible right off the bat. Just being there means he’s absorbing targeted attacks, and you can’t have him dead because you instantly game over if he does.
Deus is gonna be pissed when he sees this
There's a glitch on the pc version that allows you to remove demi-fiend from the party fyi
Thank you Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne! :D
Video is interesting and all, but couldn’t you download the mod to have game full screen?
43:03
Sinai is pronounced Sigh-Nigh. I've seen enough Naked Archaeologist Episodes to know this.
love the Vancouver ref
oboeshoesgaming has a pretty good video of Wanted Dead if the sponsor caught your attention
What's the ost at the start of the video? I've heard before but I forgot where it was from/it's name
It's just called "Sound test" from the SMT Nocturne soundtrack. Should be easy to find!
I don't have the guts to play Nocturne on hard mode
Oh right, pixie can immediately negotiate too, forgot about that, assumed you'd have to do some compendium shenanigans to get a full team
"Man what the fuck"
I hope hardtype makes its way to pc hd sometime. Also why did they do that with Lucifer? The fuck. I was super interested why you did that version specifically.
seems like Deus managed to make it possible
SMT3 but it's an escord quest.
Yes, unleash hell my demons....
Great stuff! I love watching challenge runs and I am so glad that you was able to do it!
Not gonna lie it’s a bit surprising to hear that you haven’t beaten nocturne on hard mode
nocturne
Lmao at the Van apartment prices dig 😂
This challenge is almost as impossible as not giving you a big ol kiss (on the lips 😳)
Deus: hold my beer
lmao sick wanted dead sponsorship, that game is awesome
Why i can hear devil trigger around 1:00:19? good video btw
The entitled demon run
Always nice to see more SMT challenges
Id watch a death counter run 😂😂
No uber pixie run invalid
Edit: wait what
Two different SMT videos in the same day and sponsered by the same game...hmmm (not judging don't worry)
Still seeing DF moving.
