    relax guys, if you read this recipe in his blog he said that he did know that satay was invented in Indonesia, its just that in this video it is satay in thai-style dont get so offended easily i'm also from indonesia btw

    • @dimasakbar7668
      @dimasakbar7668 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Totally agree with you. To be perfectly honest, when he use "fish sauce (nam pla)" and salty soy sauce, Most Indonesian wouldn't even say that it is Indonesian style~. If i have complaints, it's that he call it an appetizer,but i think he did a good recipe (already tried it myself). Also an Indonesian btw~

      Agita Putri I live in The Netherlands, and there are loads of Indonesians here, so plenty of Indonesian cuisine. Here, chicken satay - Indonesian-style - is far more common than beef satay, though. Is that the case in some regions of Indonesia? (It's too big and diverse a culinary culture to assume all Indonesian food is the same, even in Indonesia.)

    • @agitaputri1993
      @agitaputri1993 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Adidas Love yeah, sate ayam ( its chicken satay) is pretty common, however in indonesia you have different type of satay, every region has its own way to prepare it I guess. Not every Indonesian can make a legit chicken satay, there is something about this being a "street food" in indonesia which makes it different . Though in the Netherlands the taste is nothing like the real chicken satay, except if you can find a good indonesian restaurant in the Hague maybe.

    Oh man, we made this last night and it was possibly the best beef satay I've ever had, and I eat it out every chance I get and I've had it in Asia also. Served it with cauliflower cut into florets, dredged in flour, pan fried in butter. Oh wow, it was fantastic. Thank you Chef John. I was gonna put a picture here but I guess one can't.....

    I made this for my 4th of July BBQ and it was stinkin' DELICIOUS. I did marinade it overnight, which was a bit much, but nonetheless, the flavors are just incredible in this recipe. It was gone within 5 minutes.

      Cao Duy Minh lol, i just posted recently on another of chef johns recipes that he should record some tapes for people that have trouble falling asleep or have insomnia, etc... not that he is boring by no means, he just has a voice that is very soothing and mellow, and helps you to relax. I would much rather listen to him than a rippling brook or waves washing up on the seashore.

    I'm an Indonesian and yeah actually it's originally from Java Indonesia. Mostly we used chicken meat and skin. while grill it, we brush it with mix sweet soy sauce 'kecap manis' + vegetable oil. there are 2 dipping sauces that you can choose to eat with. first is peanut sauce (do not blender it!) and second is sweet soy sauce mix with fresh slice of shallots and chopped of Capsicum frutescens 'cabe rawit' :)

    Tried this last night along with the corn pudding recipe, but with an oddball variation that turned out wonderful. We got a late start, and after the marinating time, it got cold and dark outside so we decided not to fire up the grill. So we did the little meat strips in a sauce pan. The idea was to put each individual strip on a little bamboo skewer and finish them over one of those little hibachi grills like comes in the middle of a pu-pu platter. But since there was that good "stuff" left in the pan, we made gravy to dip the skewers into. Came out amazing.

    It's an Indonesian dish as well (since the two countries and mush of SE Asia share a strong history). Mainly made with cubed chicken breast. Best part of the chicken is keeping a little bit of chicken skin on the breast here and there, and so when you cook it (traditionally on open coals) it crisps a little and you get a little yummy surprised.

    Chicken is the most common way! You can use any heat source, but nothing like a smoky fire.
