City Tour #021 - Natchez, Mississippi
We drive around the city of Natchez, the county seat of Adams County, Mississippi. The city is located on a bluff on the east bank of the Mississippi River, just across the river from Vidalia, Louisiana. In this video, we get out of the car along the way to get a closer look at some of the architecture and interesting attractions.

This by far is my favorite city to visit!!! We went there on our Anniversary 2yrs ago and I absolutely fell in love with it!... It's quaint and quiet but very inviting and charming, peaceful, and the people are Soo very kind and make you feel special and the food is Out Standing!!! I have so much joy just by thinking about it ... I am so glad you filmed here!!! Thank you so much !!! I can go there anytime now😁
This is the best video I have seen on Natchez. Really appreciate displaying the cross streets. It gave a Better perspective. Loved the bits of history. Thank you for doing this video as I am interested in moving there. Drive safe

One of our favorite places to go. I've not been to Savannah, GA, or Charleston, SC. But this is the old south as well. Mississippi and the south are given a bad name...but my friends all people black or white are affected by the aberrant behavior of the radical minority. The people of Natchez are warm and hospitable. Stay at an old plantation or B & B. Delightful.

A cousin & I visited Natchez in 1992. We had lunch in a restaurant on the bluff above the Mississippi River. We enjoyed visiting several historic homes, including the Mississippi D. A. R headquarters and also the very interesting 3-story round house which was begun before the Civil War began. The ground floor was finished and lived in also before the Civil War, but the upper two floors were never finished as the war interfered as many of the workers/carpenters were from the North. This building is not in the downtown area. As I recall, it was in a country area.

Drove out here from Mobile, Alabama two weeks ago since U.S. 98 was a historic link between both cities.
Used to live there and work at The Isle Of Capri. GREAT town, and it was a GREAT place to work.

great video! I just wanna say for anyone who moving here its a great city if u looking for something calm. But as a young person who has be living their whole life here its not really fun.
I moved from there in 1981 right after graduating from northnatchez.i know it may seem dull as a young person I know I wanted to go explore the world as soon as high-school was over. I have begun to realize there's no place like home.i miss the closeness of the people back there during the years of 1981 and before.you could run into strangers,have a conversation like old friends but I know Today everyone is looking at their phones.i see here they still put up the Christmas tree downtown.i am Really wanting to move back cause I'm tired of not having any nature around.nothing but big buildings.

Thank you for sharing this -- I love Natchez! When I was there I saw something called the "cock of the walk" and thought there was a casino in a riverboat across from it. I didn't hear you mention that in the video-- perhaps it is no longer there. I appreciate you gave up your Thanksgiving to do this. You have the best voice to narrate .....
Cock of the Walk was a restaurant in the old train depot. They lost their lease on the building back around 2014 due to the renovations on the building, which is still not complete. They opened other locations decades ago, including one near our home in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. They currently have locations in Nashville TN, Ridgeland MS and Pocahontas MS.
The casino is on a boat, docked on the river adjacent to (below) the old train depot. You can see that near the end of the video. I believe there may have been more than one casino there over time, and it may not have been in that exact location on the river.
The Isle of Capri casino riverboat under the hill closed in 2015. I think it was in bad shape. I miss the buffet. The other casino doesn't have one.
The Cock of the Walk in the train depot closed and there was a gift shop in there and it moved locations. The train depot still looks like it looked like on the video.
The city has a lot of good ideas for these buildings but never seems to complete them.

MY GRANDMOTHER WAS INDIAN RAISED 15 SIBLINGS WITH GRANDPA, THEY WERE POOR LIVING ON A FARM. THEY MADE WELL TO DO CONSIDERING HOW MANY IT WAS. MY DAD USE TO TELL ME WHEN THEY'D GET UPSET HAVING THE PASTOR FOR SUNDAY DINNER, BECAUSE HE GOT THE BEST PARTS OF THE CHICKEN. 😂😂😂😂FUNNY HOW HE TALKED OF THING'S ONE COULD IMAGINE N A MOVIE THE WAY THEY LIVED.
Isn't the "Devil's Punch Bowl" there?
No, that’s in Oregon.
I don't think so. It was no slavery in Oregon. The Devil's Punch Bowl" is right off of Interstate 20 in Natchez, Miss. It is where they round up more then 20,000 ex- slaves and starved then to death. What a horrible way to treat those people. The whole history of America has left out what has really happened in theses so called "land of freedom"... Think about it.
Yes. The Devil's Punchbowl is here just north of the city cemetery.
I been here over 50 years. We used to go down in the hole with ropes but it's posted now.

I want to go to Mississippi so bad. It’s been 3 years since I been. I had plans to go next month but with the COVID-19 getting out of control again I guess I had better not go. It is very strong here in Texas and worse in Mississippi.
This is probably not a good time to travel. We went through 7 states and stayed in 6 hotels and masks weren’t required if youre vaccinated, and we did fine. But right now, I wouldn’t be willing to try that again.
@@504RoadTrips thanks for advice. I have a travel van and this is the second year I haven’t gone anywhere. I am 67 and have been vaccinated but people are still getting the virus that have had their shots. Our governor has the virus now. All the hospitals are full and I just heard on the news they are going to send Texas people to hospitals in Kansas. I think I will spend a couple of nights in my van here at my house and call it a vacation. Lololol

No. Considering it’s elevation, on a bluff over the Mississippi River, even at it’s worst flood stage, Natchez would still be high and dry.
