I sat right at the table when Tommy performed this and explained this in 1977 or 78 I as well as everyone else at the lecture was 100 percent fooled.
One of the things that Tommy does that is really brilliant is that he pretends he's holding something in his hands when he's not, kind of lulling you into thinking, "Oh, okay, his fists aren't closed because he's tricking us, that's just how he holds his hands." It's really smart.

The point is, however, that even a practiced magician will not notice this small things the first time he sees the trick, meaning Tommy Wonder was successfull.

If you watch, he just reaches up and puts the gold coin in his eye, he's not even trying to be subtle about it. But the audience is so enrapt they can't believe it.
There is no such thing as "pure" English anymore. I have lived in both American and England. Both sides screw up the language, just in different ways. Saying US English is unimportant is one of the most simple minded, idiotic statements I have ever heard. Even my step father, (who comes from England), disagrees with your statement.
Yes I have been to the US and a lot of people are overweight and they like eating huge burgers and chips. There are many run down areas which used to be industry. And when you talk to the people, it is surprising how many of them know hardly anything about England or Europe. They don't know or understand the English words for things but we know all the US Amercian words. What does that tell you? A very inward looking and self-centred country. If you are a worker, start by educating your fellows!

To be frank, I think he was one of only a VERY few people who have ever mastered what it means to be a performing magician.
