That is awesome. Gave me a lot of good ideas. 👍 Also, do your welding before your precision machining or setting your rails. The welds will distort the object.

Hey Giles, I was going to comment that your grinder should have a removable hub. But looks like someone beat me to it. Anyway, I think you'll want to rework your design a bit so that you can balance the wheel WITH the hub. (Which means making a new arbor with the correct taper. You may need to even widen your stand a bit. You may also want to pick up a few more hubs so you don't have to continually balance your wheels if you swap them out.
One thing to note: Mount the wheel, and then dress it. Remove it from the grinder (still on the hub) and balance it. Then remount it.

Thank you so much. I didn’t know how to get the hub off but finally got it off today. Made a new arbor today but this evening I will follow your instructions and hopefully get it right. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 thank you. 😊

Hey Billy, I followed your directions and got great results. 100% difference. Its not commercial grade finish but much much better. Thanks my friend. Gilles

@@LetsRogerThat That's great. Grab some extra hubs as Billy mentioned that way you can have several wheels balanced and ready to go. I have 4 wheels like that.

I am curious, why can't you remove the grinding wheel adapter off the surface grinder? I saw a nut holding it to the shaft in the middle. This way you can balance the whole thing as a unit.

Doesn’t your grinder use removable hubs? If you take the wheel off by itself, balance it then reinstall it, it’s going to be better but not ideal. Better than out of the box but most quality wheels are balanced before shipping. Once you true the wheel on the grinder, your balance efforts will be negated. You balanced it to your balance fixtures arbor, but the hole in the stone is imperfect. That’s why you have removable steel hubs.

I couldn't figure out how to remove the hub, if its removable at all. I agree with you that would be ideal. I rued the wheel and still got scalloped finish so I figured I need t balance the wheel. But to be sure, I will look again and see if I can figure a way to remove the hub. Thanks John.

John with a bit of persistence and a puller I was able to remove the wheel assembly as you suggested. Turns out mine was seized on. Giving a good cleaning today and will balance the whole assembly as you suggested. Thank you so much. Gilles
