Very eloquently, concisely, and powerfully said. You are one of the best in delivering a very informative and effective podcast. The frustration with not enough substantial action taken, and the lack of wisdom shown by some of the members of NATO is at least very psychologically painful to many that watch the slow and agonizing destruction of the Ukrainian nation. Too many in the West are still near-sighted and/or are empathetically challenged, and can't seem to see the threats to other democratic and weaker vulnerable nations growing more dangerous as the axis of evil is emboldened.
Thank you, Jonathan, for another excellent episode of Silicon Bites. I hope, someone will finally get into gear, but doubt that this will happen. So true that for all who follow closely it is painful. How much more painful this is for Ukrainians, we will never fully comprehend. 🇺🇦 Перемоги та миру всім українцям! 🇺🇦
Very eloquent and succinctly put. I feel your message should be seen, heard and understood by more of our populace. But that’s maybe wishful thinking… Thank you for your efforts.
Thanks for your efforts Jonathan. I find it truly frustrating that the west cannot get it's head around this conflict, or chooses not to do so for sake of convenience. Refusing to make hard decisions. Where would we be if the UK had negotiated with Hitler at the start of WW11? It's pretty obvious that this isn't going to end in Ukraine. Some small good news from Australia. 49 Abrams tanks heading to Ukraine.
Thank you, Jonathan for tackling the tough issues on Ukraine and its Western supporters. It is heartbreaking to witness the casual and withering response to the threat of annihilation faced by Ukraine. I agree with you, that Pres. Zelensky is making every effort to help Ukraine's partner understand the dire threat faced by Ukraine and that Russia is dead serious about reconstituting its empire. US, Canadian, and European elected leaders speak and act like corporate handmaidens. For 30 years their governments were busy pursuing corporate globalization, eagerly adopting and practicing Appeasement of every non-democratic regime, to ensure they open their doors to new markets and cheap labor. They traded corporate profits for their national and regional security. I wonder what Zelensky and Zaluzhnyi must feel as they witness the shallow, transactional values of the West.
There is no desire for Ukraine to win, the only "desire" is for them to "surivive", whatever that means at the end of the day i have no idea, but it is clear that Ukraine as a country is much less valued as a important country such as Germany or France and does not deserve to really be a part of Europe or NATO, that's the feeling i've been getting from politicans that they at the end of the day dont really care what happens to Ukraine or eastern europe in general, only what happens to the west of Polands borders are important so there is some kind of "we and them" sentiment among people, that western europeans are somehow more important and more valued than people in eastern europe, a picture that i strongly disagree with and is such a disgraceful mindset to have.
I think most European countries are just too peoccupied with domestic issues. Sadly, I believe many of our politicians just wish this war would go away. But it won't and if we don't wake up it will be on all our doorsteps.
Having just finished listening to all parts I’d highly advise the channel History of Everything and the playlist The History of Ukraine. He does a thorough job of explaining just how much prolonged and systematic Russia’s exempts to destroy Ukraine as a people and a nation has been over the centuries
I seriously fear this analysis is not heard and listened to at those levels that should listen ... Our collective European "safety" is very fragile andmost European leaders with their governments have become complacent to the harsh geopolitical dangers.
10 basics of democracy 1 no authority without consent of parliament 2 free & fair elections 3 freedom of speech 4 right of petition 5 no private armies 6 independent judiciary 7 no torture 8 no religous laws 9 no confiscations 10 no jail without a fair trial reference : bill of rights 1689 , rights of man 1789 , US bill of rights (ratified 1791)
Rhetorically speaking, how many countries have already spent their stockpiles in support of Ukraine because they maintained too few of anything to defend themselves, let alone Ukraine -/- the current international order? Too many politicians and not enough statespersons. The U.S. ENCOURAGED the concentration of military suppliers and maintained enough supplies for training...
Exactly! This is one of only a handful of vids which clearly and concisely describe the current situation and why allowing Ukraine to win is in the interest of the whole world. Is it too much to hope that the entry of N. Korean troops into the war will wake somebody up? Probably. The cumulative West seems to be hoping for things to stop and suddenly establish some norm which can be adjusted to. The very unpredictability of such a violent event make the maintenance of any sort of "status quo" impossible. It is only when they realize that the only acceptable end, except to Vlad, is the defeat of Russia, can it ever end. To paraphrase Admiral Farragut, "Damn the nukes. Full steam ahead." The only option Putin has is the nuclear one, and he dare not play it. To do so would signal his desperation, and his end.
Request a technical suggestion. Audio acoustics sounds like a antiechoic chamber. Something like 50-3.000kHz. Open up the audio processing to include other frequencies. Thank you and regards.
FDR may have been great in his own right. Keep in mind though that he betrayed his Central European allies and left them at the mercy of the Soviets. So in this context it may not be the biggest positive to bring up FDR.
Effective US foreign policy disappeared with the end of the Cold War. But not just the US. The West in general sleep-walked into a Fukuyama fantasyland.
A problem with western democracy, which is still the best system, is that the work is done for the benefit of the election cycle. There are few consequences of deliberately poor decisions by politicians that are detrimental for the long term. For example, the power grid of a nation might need repairs. The options could be locally made parts that cost $50k and last 30 years or cheap import parts that cost $30k but last 7 years. One knows the politicians will often choose the latter stupid and detrimental example. The same flaws seem to be at play for the defense assistance for Ukraine.
This speech in the Chatham House clearly shows why general Zalužny has been dismissed by Zelensky who is openly envious, jealous and panicky afraid of any potential political competition, among other disgusting reasons. Physically strong, herculean, well educated and articulated Zalužny is a striking contrast to small, satyric, pathetic, completely ignorant and barely spoken Zelensky.
He is not iron general 😂. He is general Incapable - by this definition of military health comission he was dismissed from army 'ZSU'. Not for any other, not for 'iron' reason 😊.
There are 2 types of ads. Channel embedded ads for channel sponsors and YT inserted to enrich Google who shares a pittance with the channel. About which do you rail?
Perhaps you have not noticed that the majority of vloggers on YT use scripts. When they get enough funding they get a staff to research and write - becoming commentators. Some start out as the face and voice in front of the staff.
Have you ever tried speaking in public off the cuff? I suspect not. But if you have, I suspect it did not go well unless you had a minutely detailed knowledge of your chosen topic.
Spot on, this should be required viewing for western leaders.
Let's hope the kremlinite thugs don't find it though or they'll be clued in 🥵

Of how not to wage defensive war
The problem with Ukraine's backers is that their response to Russian aggression is REACTIVE rather than PRO-ACTIVE.

Thanks Jonathan 😊
Mr Zelenskyj is the best president in the world.
Slava Ukraini 🇺🇦
Zaluzjny is still kicking ass.
He send his army into mine fields.

Thank you for your efforts.
The failing to recognize the implications of the Ukraine war are symptoms of lack of leadership in the West, regrettably.
Excellent analysis! You should publish it as an essay. Well done!
Thanks for your efforts Jonathan.

I believe there was an attempt, initially. Wasn’t it Chamberlain?
Thanks for the great news❤

The UK would fail on a few of the above points.

When was the last effective foreign policy US President? FDR? It has never been a field of excellence for the US.
God this is so true…
Ronald Reagan was great
Ronald Reagan and probably a couple more - but not too many, neither there nor elsewhere in the world, as it seems, when you think about it....
FDR may have been great in his own right. Keep in mind though that he betrayed his Central European allies and left them at the mercy of the Soviets.

Can someone explain to me how enemy with 100-500 glide bombs daily, and 10 to 1 arty advantage somehow losing 5 times more people? For real?
👍
N. Korea practically invaded Europe and no reaction from the western leaders. They could not have demonstrated their weakness better.

Yup, the end is nigh.
hi....your right....they need to get that international education system to the east pronto....old school got to go...
thanks...
I must disagree, it's more like the Muppet show.

why are you reading up loud a written text instead of speaking about the topic

Cos hes a political commentator not Jimmy Carr
Maybe because Johnathan knows that some of us want to hear what Zaluzhnyi has to say. If you are not interested go somewhere else.
Have been watching you delude yourself with propaganda for months now, good to see that reality can't be avoided forever 😂
