      thanks for the video! i am guessing ADS is an industry leader as many more creators than matt or wess reference you. it would be interesting i believe to see more of the shop side as you must deal with parts and service for a large selection of vehicles ....well there powerplants anyway. again thanks for the video.

I was wondering while watching.... would it be possible to use a milking machine with an end mill, to carefully grind the cam screw down to the cam for removal without having to destroy the housing? The fact that he can identify a specific screw at a moments' glance on a pump he didn't tear down shows he level of knowledge on his chosen craft. Extremely satisfying to see him work!! I had an idea for Corey, which is take a socket and weld inside the lip, adding metal to approximate the shape of the broken screw, then use it to remove the broken screw, and if the screws usually break in the same way, then the same socket should be able remove those screws as well. One might also similarly add metal with a welder to a proper tool instead of a socket and use that to remove broken screws. Or weld a proper tool into the center of a socket?

    ADS appreciated the breakdown discussion and assembly detail and component description. Your technician is well schooled. As a 64 year old retired diesel generator stationary engineer in a very large powerplant your tech covered more than I expected. If he used a small tig torch he could have welded a nut on top of the screw and the heat of tig and 5 sided nut might brake it loose. Spray inside of pump housing with anti spatter spray.

    I remember at the opening he said there is a special tool to remove that ball. Is it like a sleeve which a hex bit inside? Fits down over the ball to keep pressure on the outside so it doesn't crack when you turn it?

    I will never again be dumbfounded at the price of new heavy equipment after watching this. The engineering that goes into one of these monsters is astonishing. What would a new pump like that cost?

    • @AreaDieselService
      @AreaDieselService  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This particular pump has long since been discontinued. Where there are similar new units available they will often exceed the value of the equipment they belong to.

      I discovered this issue when I bought a John Deere 2020 from a scrap metal yard. The injection pump had to be rebuilt. The rebuilders had to get a machine shop to create a new part for the throttle advance. Years ago, John Deere recognized that that model of pump was defective and they replaced many of them. I thought that I got off easy with a cost of only $650. The tractor ran well. Of course I had to put in new liners and pistons.

    Hi from the U.K. that was superb, a great explanation of well how it all goes. Everything has gone electronic nowadays but back in the 90's when I was a fleet mechanic I used to take pumps and injectors to our local diesel service shop in my home town of Chesterfield, David Poole (known as pooleys) now long gone and I always wondered what magic must have gone off with the components and just like yourselves I would get the phone call to say it's ready for collection and it always came back spotless bagged and ready for re-fit. I thoroughly enjoyed watching this and I am going to keep watching your vids thanks to Matt and yourselves. Keep up the great work and many thanks.

    EDM is a pretty awesome tool. Broke a bolt in a cylinder top, then broke the extractor in the bolt trying to remove it. Luckily a local machine shop came to the rescue with this tool.
