Being an Oldsmobile lover for over half a decade, I still wanna do a bug with a toronado drivetrain and a 455 olds out back! On my budget it will have to be done cheap. Good thing is I already have a bunch of parts. Really I just need the bug..! 😎

I put that drivetrain in the back of a fiat x1/9 bug is heavier and my 455 had over 750 horse on the dyno before I put lower compression pistons and a 10-71 supercharger on top didn't get it back to the dyno before the blower exploded but the few runs we did at test and tune we did three eighth mile runs better than 160 mph
Saw build like that at a Northfield Ohio cruise in!! Go for it!
@@rankinmg1 now I got a new idea...clapped out Miata body only, build some chromolly tubes into the basic structure, stab a whipple blown junkyard truck 5.3 LS and a tremec TKX and a fabbed 9 inch out back...keep the manual convertible top and make sure the tubes clear it all. Stance would be the starting point with 275x10.5 "small tire" rubber out back. Either use stock-ish struts up front or just use long travel fox body struts. Everything would be manual from the trans, to 4 wheel manual disc brakes using the classic plastic Mopar master cyl, a tiny manual flaming river "vega" style steering box, and hopefully even manual crank windows! If the thing weighs more than 2400 pounds with driver than I've done something wrong...
I suppose instead of the screw blown LS I could run one of my 620hp n/a Olds 455 motors, but that would confuse a lot of people...lol...
Not sure the width of the big block Olds would make things easy.
I'm planning a trip to the junkyard this weekend..not sure if I'll find a Miata there at this yard but I'm taking a tape measure just in case. Also gonna take 100 pics of the raw material and make sure I'm not overlooking some kind of major obstacle.
A Miata would be cheaper than a VW bug if starting out with nothing I do believe...

For years there used to be a bay window bus in my town that had old tornado drive train. Used to see it all over the place. About the only thing I didn’t like was the radiators he had on the roof.

I always felt like they were the ugliest car one could possibly set out to design. This one looks pretty cool though.
Most overlooked hot rod material out there the bug that is. Light. Aerodynamic. Plenty full. Parts are cheap. And the cutest thing on four wheels.
What amazes me is the iconic bug everybody knows the bug even the kids today know it and I'm not a kid I'm a senior citizen Volkswagen I owned was a bug made in 1958 the same year I was born but this one is absolutely a monster I would like to driven it the shock towers exposed like that you can tell the thing must handle like a beast

Totally cool! I hope he's working on some fairings to cover the tops of the struts. That one you were talking about with the nailhead, was a Buick aluminum 215. Volkswagen beetles are a blank canvas!

@@ScottieDTV You were correct. NO IDEA why it was not shown! That thing is sick and all business. I still want this very colorful (stickers and graffiti...), sun beat Bug shell with wheels on a north street of Tijuana facing west. A heavy wash and clear coat would make it super cool (and a lot of parts). It is one street south and three avenues over from the church and museum. I found a photo last night. Hoonigan (which is not quite the same) had the 'Scumbug' revamped at EMPI, and this had me thinking.
