Hillary: Never visited Wisconsin even once because she just assumed the rust belt didn’t despise her name for Bill’s policies accidentally sending their jobs overseas (because that’s what her precious polls claimed), and thought she had those states in the bag
Trump: Has never visited Arizona even once because he assumes that the increasingly blue-leaning state doesn’t despise his party for that farce of a ruling on abortion (because that’s what his precious polls are claiming), and thinks he has not only all swing states in the bag despite barely being up at a time when polls skew dramatically to the right but New Jersey, NY (his birth state that heckles him on a daily basis) and WA (whose remaining republicans have far more enthusiasm for a *governor race* than for him, just drove through central WA and the amount of MAGA merch I saw was a round number)- all deep-blue states that would vote Democratic if the presidential nominee was a farm donkey with the letter “D” next to its name.
It wasn't Hillary's fault the Bernie Bros sat at home and pouted, only to set back their movement 40 years...

This isn’t anything new to Trump. He kept saying that New York, Minnesota, and CALIFORNIA were all in play. He’s lost all of them in both 16 and 20. He’s delusional.
So delusional that he has repeatedly asserted that he DID win those states in those elections. Because every loss is a stolen election, even losing the first primary against Ted Cruz got him to say 'Stolen' in 2016

He started no new wars, he secured the border, he had sound economic policies, and was even moving us away from an antagonistic posture. I sent in my New Jersey Republican Primary mail-in ballot last week. I wrote in Nikki Haley's name. NJ has a closed primary which takes place on June 4th. It's going to be very interesting to see how many votes she gets since her name doesn't appear on the ballot. I'm thinking she'll get 15% - we'll see...
Over 160,000 voted for Haley in the PA primary.
Trump is a tightwad; a rally in NJ is a short run from the courthouse, close to his golf course's owner's apartment, and won't dip into his legal defense funds. Who knows? might not even pay the costs. Aren't there some cities he rallied in in 2016 that never got reimbursed?
Problem is that it's still going to cost money to get campaign staff there to set up the rally and reserve the space for it. It's still a waste of money because Trump won't win New Jersey. He would be better served just going to Pennsylvania instead, which is just one state over and an actual battleground state and is next to New York as well.

He did this kind of bait in 2016, saying he was gonna campaign in Cali and New York. Saw an article saying it was just a tactic to convince Democrats to waste money there
The problem with that is the Democrats aren't stupid enough to believe that because they know he doesn't have a shot of winning there. It's like the Biden campaign saying they're going to compete in Iowa, Ohio, or South Carolina when everyone knows they're not.
Yeah, and it failed horribly. It's one thing if you are like behind 10 points or less in a state and are trying to get it into play to force your opponent to spend money, but it's another when you do it in a state you have no real chance to win. Biden is swimming in cash compared to Trump this election cycle and he could very well end up going to prison if the trial in New York goes badly for him.

Given that these events also get broadcast nationwide across the several media networks that are in his pocket, that would make a lot of sense.
It doesn't matter if he wins New Jersey if the people in Arizona who watched him on TV and say he would win NJ and then heard their trusted pundits say he would win NJ. Any other outcome to that person would be inconceiveable.
Three things:
1. Trump thinks NJ is practically his home state.
2. Trump wants to be in front of fawning crowds.
3j. Based on my experience, not being happy with Biden is not the same as not voting for him when Trump is the alternative.
I recently sent in my mail-in ballot for the NJ Primary. I was pretty sure that if I had the chance, I would vote "Undecided." In the 2020 Primary, I voted for Bernie, even though he had already dropped out. But this time, when I looked down at the ballot, I thought to myself that there is just too much at stake for our country. What is happening in the Middle East may be a human tragedy, but at the end of the day, I put the interests of the USA first and voted for Biden.
I think he's doing this just to grift as many MAGA's as possible. He's trying to suck every last dollar from his cult from every corner of the US.

I’m from New Jersey and this is such a bad prediction lol
Nearly 1.9 million people here voted Trump in 2020 but Biden got just over 2.6 million votes winning by 16 percent. Even in 2021 Murphy barely won even with Democratic turnout in Newark, Jersey City, and other cities in the Passaic-Hackensack river valley being very low.
Not only that but democrats have a huge voter registration advantage here. And I’m in Woodbridge Township, a highly populated town in a very populated part of NJ, very liberal here. There are certainly conservative parts of NJ, but the liberal areas out weigh it.
But this isn’t the first Trump made ridiculous election prediction, in 2016 during the primaries he claimed on Fox News that he could win New York.
Trump may win this election, but he isn’t winning the Garden State. EVEN Clinton won here in 2016 by a margin of 55-41%.

Assuming the polls are accurate and he has 18-22% support with black voters and Biden loses 10-20 points of his vote share with Jews like Obama did in 2012, New Jersey would be very much in play. It would actually be Wisconsin and maybe Michigan where he’d have trouble, maybe rural Maine as well.

The Campaigning in Bluer states is about fundraising and adspace, it helps down ballot races and shows Trump going into the belly of the beast. NJ and NY won't go red, but the margins will be closer than any time recently. NJ
I bet people from that rally aren’t even in NJ. These people would travel states away just to keep hearing the same promises he said in 2016. Just an FYI its 2024 and none of his policies made a high impact on Americans as a whole besides to those 1%. The rest of us have to be blamed for the high debt this country has.
That and asides from the tax cuts for the rich and putting up names for Senate Republicans to pass for judgeships, Trump really didn't get all that much done.

I was thinking the same. Clinton was where Trump is now. Favored to win, but lower enthusiasm on her side. Third party siphoning protest votes from her. RFK Jr is to Trump what Jill Stein was to Clinton. It's a small, but significant amount of votes to hand over the election to Biden. I think these polls are overestimating Trump in the same way the polls were overestimating Clinton in 2016. But we can't let that lull us into a false sense of security. We gotta get out there and vote like democracy depends on it.

Wildwood Beach NJ serves the south Jersey media market covered by Philadelphia news outlets. And Ocean County NJ where this half empty rally occurred is the only solid double digits red county in the NYC tri state area. Also the first county to have high transmission rates at the start of each pamdemic flu season. Not sure why he didn't just campaign in Philadelphia oh right he'd be chased out.
I honestly believe that if there are gonna be any Republican States that go Democrat or close to Democrat in the 2024 Election, it's going to be Georgia and/or North Carolina.

I think the strategy is to raise hopes in the base who don’t know any better. Then when he gets blown out he’ll say it was fixed, that somebody obviously cheated. The play is to throw a big stink bomb, create chaos then try to win in court.

Yep. Honestly it would be more efficient to spend an extra hour a day on the bus to go to Eastern PA (Scranton, Allentown, suburban Philadelphia) or the Philly suburbs that are in NJ than to campaign in a place that is a bit too far for swing voters in PA.
If he is truly stuck in NYC for weeks on end and really can't make regular quick flights for drop in campaign rallies elsewhere, he should focus on campaigning in the places within easy driving distance (which is really only Eastern PA) that are actually winnable.
Granted I personally am fine with Donald Trump wasting his money on pipe dreams. I actually think that campaigning in super blue places like The Bronx will literally increase democratic turnout as people there will remember why they hate Donald Trump (not that more voter turnout in the Bronx makes much of a change on the presidential level, but it could help with the New York Senate and running up the margins with no additional cost for the Biden campaign isn't a bad thing.
Reminder: None of this means anything if polls are even close to correct in this cycle, or if they continue to underestimate Trump as they did in prior cycles (worst case scenario for Biden). Biden needs to keep his focus on the battleground states. We can say Trump is repeating Clinton's mistakes in 2016, but I think Biden really needs to pull out all the stops and campaign as though the polls are correct.
From a strategic point of view, i agree. From a political view, i think it's important to recognise and value your voter base, even in 'safe' states, regardless if that state goes blue or red. It's important for a president's recognition to.show their face, even where it's hard.
Sure, they shouldn't focus on these states, but out of principle, i do think Republican candidates should visit states such as Maryland or Washington, and Democrats should go to Tennessee or Arkansas, even if just once.
I'd love to see Trump to win NJ, only to lose Ohio, Florida, NC, Texas, Arizona, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Penn, and Wisconsin. Won't happen, but that'd be a funny trade.

Well from an economic standpoint campaigning in NJ while you are stuck in New York for weeks on end (due to your trial) isn't the worst idea. I would still splurge a tiny bit to get over the border into Pennsylvania (Scranton is a 2.5 hour drive from NYC) as you could do a campaign rally in Scranton on Wednesday at noon and still be back in NYC for a court appointment Thursday Morning.
Granted he could also use his private jet to airdrop himself anywhere in the Eastern Half of the US for a two hour campaign event, but going to Grand Rapids for three hours of campaign time with 6 hours of total flight time is a bit inefficient.
I think he has a very good chance of flipping NJ. He needs to invest heavily into it. Someone pass that onto him, please.

I think he is campaigning in New Jersey more so because many people from eastern PA often go to Wildwood. He is just posturing about winning New Jersey nothing else. It's not that deep

He's not gonna win New Jersey, but it's not entirely impossible to say it could be in single digits. (though very unlikely) republican shifts in south jersey and lower turnout in Newark area could make this a reality.

I don't even think he thinks he can win in New Jersey legitimately. He he just knows he has to contest it early enough. State he won firmly enough, and then his supporters in the state will riot rather than accept that he lost. Forever. And there's been so many people calling for unity at all costs that he thinks he might get some people in power to say well let's just give it to Trump because otherwise we won't have any peace. If he does this in 5 or 10 blue states there goes the presidency.

Problem is that even if they try to storm Congress again, they won't succeed. Trump isn't President anymore, so they won't have the luxury of not having to deal with a stronger response with National Guard being activated.
