Hey Paul! Let me start off by saying I loved the video. I consider myself pretty avid in both MD and TCG, but you still got me excited just for those, and Duel Links which I haven't played in like 3 years.
I will say, I think this style is better suited for Team APS. High energy and quick to the point to get it across. I would recommend keeping APS Plus Videos more slow paced and discussion based, allows for better understanding and digestion of the material you are presenting.
Main thing, you keep putting in the work to improve. The fans love to see it. Keep up the good work every at Team APS

I really think videos like this are great, and you covered enough areas that hopefully it will be useful info for quite some time.
The informative and introductory content is maybe not the target videos for the core audience, but it's great for new people which I think yugioh has a hard time reaching out to.

As a Magic player, I find it absolutely fascinating how Yugioh just… doesn’t have other formats. The closest thing it has is Duel Links/Rush Duels, which work by fundamentally altering the rules of the game instead of what cards are available. Commander does have somewhat different rules, but a lot of what makes it fundamentally different are the deckbuilding restrictions and multiplayer nature.
GOAT format is a thing, but an unofficial one and one that is explicitly trying to never change the overall rules and available cards, more analogous to MtG fan formats like Premodern and Old School which exist only in contexts where people are dissatisfied with the direction the game is going.
And Yugioh’s focus on archetypes means Limited formats are impossible, with the closest thing being the video games constraining your access to cards as you progress.

You offer a lot of great info for where I should start looking and I appreciate that, but then I get into a game against someone setting up 50 links and pendulums and one-shotting me on the first turn and I go back to resenting what the game has become; then go do something else instead.

I'd recommend the unofficial ones like edo pro or dawn of a new era. Master duel may be the most mainstream and aesthetic. But even though I'm not competitive it just annoys me not having access to all the new cards or having to grind and grind just to unlock cards and then grind even more if you change your mind what direction you want to take your deck in. And then coming up against cards that are banned just ruins the immersion

    • @allarian8726

How does having to grind to buy more cards ruin the immersion? Its exactly what you would do irl. Dont get the cards you want? Work for another month until your next paycheck and then test your luck again. Only MD is a lot more convenient and in some ways forgiving.

What about Yu-Gi-Oh! VR/DMVR. It's another fun way to play Yu-Gi-Oh, and despite the name, it doesn't require a VR headset just recommended. It has its own card pool and competitive scene/ meta.

I hate Kashtira decks to much. The 2023 Duelist Cup in Master Duel was hell to get through, and I only got to Lv. 15 of stage 1. My 5 year old Shiranui/Golden Land ain't it no more 😅

My problem is being very busy i prefer to play on master duel or edopro but i dont have the time to learn all the thousands of decks
So i rather just prefer to play against a small category of decks and find someone that likes the same

Noticed this channel because of tolarian community college and his episode with you guys. I've never been very interested in yugioh, but cross duel looks interesting. Would it be possible to play that format in paper as well, and would you guys ever consider gameplay of the format? I do like playing 4 player free for all a lot and watch 4 player commander is fun as well. Would be interesting how 4 player free for all would translate.

I get Speed Duels isn't the biggest thing, but it is a supported format, and unlike Rush Duels is actually available outside the OCG in paper.
    Just saying my dude.

I wish there was an official game like Master Duel but without the whole packs and digital card collecting. Make them non-fungible, scarce, and tradeable, and maybe I’ll actually wanna pay or grind to collect them. Otherwise, I wanna just build whatever deck I want and play.

I think Rush Duel could get some popularity if we had it in the tcg. I know some will say we will never get it because the switch game flopped but seeing how 1. it got never proper advertisment, 2. it was released 6 MONTHS before the Sevens dub aired (aka nobody knew about the characters unless you watched the show in japanese) and 3. we never got the missing updates with more cards and the option to finally Fusion summon... Yeah, ofc this game would fail in the west.
Now that the Sevens dub is already close to an end and we have the 24th anniversary, maybe there is a slight hope for Rush Duel tcg - or at least the Go Rush switch game that has all the current RD cards covered. People who played it in japanese said it's way better than the first Dawn of the Battle Royale.
