    5:13 Massa's walk back to the pit was an incredible moment that not even the most imaginative of Hollywood screenwriters could ever dream of. How was it possible for those exact series of events to happen to allow him to walk uninterrupted in the pit lane to receive such ovation from crews & teams? Unimaginable scenes. It's the stuff sports movies are made of. And it couldn't have happened to more deserving person.
    Sure, it was tainted slightly by his U-turn on his decision to retire, but back then, nobody know that would happen.

      Poor Felipe also cried on the top of the Podium at Interlagos 2008 after he lost out the title to Lewis by a single point. That being said, probably one of the saddest moment in Carlos Sainz Sr. lost his engine 500 metres from the finish in fourth place. Had he maintained that position, he would had been World Rally Champion by a point over his rival, the great Tommi Makinen. But instead, Makinen won his third title in a row before getting his fourth in a row in 1999.
      JR Hildebrand's crash on the last corner of the last lap while leading the Indy 500 in 2011 was the most heartbreaking, allowing Dan Wheldon to win the race while JR's crashed car survived to finish second.

      Senna's Mclaren lost all the gears except the 6th. So he had to do everything physically to adapt without the car stalling. When he finished the race, he was exhausted and cramps built in. So he was both happy but also screaming in pain. He couldn't even hold his winning trophy on the podium because he wore out completely.

      I don't know, but Murray could have used kinder wording in my opinion. Luca Badoer was described by Dutch commentator Olav Mol as the hardest working driver in F1 at that time, because besides driving for Minardi, he also was Ferrari test driver. According to Mr. Mol, Badoer had written in his contract that he couldn't tell Minardi any Ferrari go-faster secrets. So, with that information in mind, I always cry with poor Luca and with Minardi, a team which I've always loved.

      Rubens was probably the most popular guy on the grid with everyone - teams, drivers, crowds. What tainted him was being the obvious number 2 to Schumacher. We all wanted him to show us what he could do, and unfortunately, it wasn't until he was in the Brawn and had 'equal billing' with JB did we really get to see it. And damn, he was a great driver. Mika, being Finnish, was usually a very cool, calm character. That was the first, almost Mediterranean, show of emotion from him. I think Murray was surprised because it was out of (his public) character. And back then, guys just didn't cry much in public, unless they had the 'excuse' of coming from a passionate (in the quick to react sense) country, like Brazil or Italy. It really was a very unusual sight at that time.

    • @DanielLearmouth
      @DanielLearmouth 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's more the fact that Hakkinen had an exceptionally rare display of emotion. He was one of the calmest and most cool drivers in F1 (largely because he's Finnish; it's kind of a natural characteristic of Finns), but that moment showed us that he's human like the rest of us, and no less prone to a bit of emotion.
      But yes, I did expect orange juice.
