One of the best gregvancom's as far as I'm concerned. I'm doing an addition but the roof is too large for traditional hip framing, the thing would have weighed 3500+ pounds and cost $500 more, just got my truss quote from the mfg. I don't have the full drawings yet and just little pictures of all the trusses, I figured out their placement in my head but this (and ONLY this) video solidified it. Thanks bro!

Hoping you can help me understand the purpose of the blocking between all of the trusses. I have that blocking in my garage, but I want to drill holes in it to vent the attic which I plan to enclose and insulate.

I am going to build this exact garage shortly, so thank you for this great video. I have been looking at doing just regular dimensional rafters, which would be 2x6, with 2x8 on the hips. The self supporting nature of the square hip would eliminate the need for ceiling joists or collar ties. The truss construction seems more complicated to construct with more lumber. Is the justification cost, speed, strength or a combination of them? Thanks for all the great videos!!!

How do I remove a hip roof
One piece of the time. I don't have a video for this, but you most of the time you simply start by removing the roofing, then sheathing, then rafters and other framing members that were used to build the roof. You will need to install braces to support the wall framing, to prevent it from moving.
How come you always use trusses. Why don't you show conventional framing. It's better use of space and can build it yourself.
I think this is the only how to roof framing video I have ever made, but I could be wrong. I think the main reason why I haven't made a lot of how-to videos about roof framing is because I've been planning on writing a book, but that particular book is been in the works for about 10 years now.
