Life is so much better when you spend only half as much on a nice fun fuel efficient 'small' car, instead of a huge luxury boat like some Mercedes or BMW that eats up all of your take home pay. The hard part was trying to find a small car that was fun, they all seemed 'boring'. Now this new Mazda 2 has finally brought fun down to the small car market.
Honesty Counts totally agree. Which is why I love my 1990 crx. At under 900kg from factory and 130bhp it certainly is fun. My brother has one of these 2nd gen mazdas and its a great little car too.
@@domzbu yeah I Know they are very light for a modern car. There isn't much safety equipment in a crx but the visibility is amazing. Haven't been in another car with such great visibility. I do love the Mazdas though and can see myself getting one as a second car being as they're cheap to run.
@@danbrookes2997I was concerned about it not being fun due to no turbocharger. And is the engine sound ok because it seems really quiet from what I’ve watched?
3 month ago i bought my first car n its mazda 2 - 2011 model n em very happy if u compare year model its still looking better than other hatchback & not looking outdated at all i recently test drive of mazda 2021 model n its interior i love it i am obsessed with mazda brand ❤️
Drove the new one a few weeks ago. Was amazing but don't think I can justify the extra money when I look at the cost of a 2013-14 with low mileage. You hear nothing but positive things about these cars. Pretty sure it will be what I'm owning next.
Went ahead and bought a used 2nd gen Mazda 2 yesterday. The new one looks great, but I only drive around 5000 km per year, so I couldn't rationally convince myself that I'd need it.
The plastics of the old mazda 2 " nasty" ? you are severe . They are hard and don't look premium but solid and well assembled anyway . Of course the latest mazda 2 is more attractive and most of all has the skyactiv engine , but becomes more pricey too . I own the old version and it still keeps me satisfied , aside some little negative details .
+Grave Moto Vlog Not expected but certainly desired. Hyundai has rear air vents in it's new generation i20 (if it decides to make it available in Australia)
I like the new one better as it's totally Mazda made. The previous one shares the same platform with the Fiesta and effectively I see more Ford than Mazda in Its design
I note your old Series 2 is a 2008 pre-facelift model. I have a 2012 (facelift) Neo, the base model. It comes standard with cruise control, stability control ?& six airbags.
... I finally got over the SUV syndrome I changed my EcoSport TITANIUM 2017 ... Friends I just made a demo that belonged to VEHICULOS DEL CAMINO ... Mazda 2 Grand Touring LX SEDAN (red mazda) ... 2020 model with only 4 thousand kms .....! I am happy ! ... and you know that I am fascinated by everything: it also has a CD system ..
Well darn, we still haven't gotten the new 2 hatch stateside. Yota is marketing the Mazda2 sedan as the Yaris iA here in the US, but we haven't actually received an update for the Mazda2 hatch. Scratch that, we won't get an update because the Mazda2 isn't being sold here any longer. It's a shame, given how few decent econo cars are sold here. Ah well.
Once your fuel approaches the price we have to pay for it in Europe, things will probably change for the better for you :-) Or maybe by that time only electric cars are being sold? :P No seriously: I don't get why they don't sell these in the US.
I hope that closing shot showing the orange peel paint in the new red one is not indicative of all the new 2's. My daughters gen 2 which has cruise control, great brakes, and is 5 speed manual, has perfect paint. Looks like a step backwards.
i went to look at a few second generation models today used and let me tell you great car for the money.i would be leaning towards maybe a 2009/2010 model knowing of the reliability of the Mazda brand having had a 1989 RX7(MY FATHERS CAR NEW TILL 1994),A 121 Metro 1999 model for three years registered in his name but I was the one who drove it just after getting off P PLATES AND A 2002 323 ASTINA.I later defected to Nissan for a Tiida and a Micra and have been looking everywhere for a replacement for the Micra.None of the new cars in the micro class do it for me even with warranties and all the toys for the money having seen how bad the depreciation is there,I started then debating similar era fiat's,renault, peugeots and volkswagens but was advised no matter how tempting it is no europeans.will be keeping an eye out for one of these given a work associate of mine has one and i have seen it and love it.
Second generation Mazda 2 should’ve obtain a 1.3 miller-cycle supercharger for fuel economy and rear disc brakes; third generation Mazda 2 should’ve also obtain a 1.5 turbo-diesel with an intercooler and rear disc brakes.
Anyone know if the 2016 mazda 2 hatch maxx came with under the hood/bonnet insulation black pad foam heat shield cover? Seems like mine didnt. Just noticed today.
That's nothing. I still drive Mazda 121 DB baby 1994 which model Mazda 2 continues actually. The car is 26 years old and looks that can be driven at least 10 years more.
Just had a test drive here in the UK...very noisy car all that road and tire noise in 2019, although the interior is a huge step up this car feels and sounds too cheap over firm dampers which on UK roads is not good. Although we have never owned a VW the new Polo is far superior in every way especially in SE or SEL model, we were disappointed with the new Corsa too.
Hey Poul. You are a male car reviewer, so how can you possibly get yourself to say, that it is a serious issue, that a car comes without parking sensors? Guys know how to park right? I know, its your wife mostly driving the Mazda 2, but dont destroy your masculinity like that :-)
+Knorsky - hi, not sure what the confusion is? Mazda2 Maxx 1.6-petrol manual is $19,990 drive away. It's the middle-spec between entry Neo and top Genki.
Richard Durie same here. Can't stand the Americans that know nothing about the rest of the world. Australian accent is totally different to any British accent and not annoying in the slightest.

Daniel Brookes yep and this new Mazda is also just 970kg. The safety aspects will be incomparable to a 1990 car.

Mazda 2 is real great car. I have 205.000 miles on this car. And still in good shape.

I'm thinking of buying mazda 2, 2008 model for a starting price of R75k. Please, what's your advice on it?
Everyone should be doing reviews which compare a new and previous model.

replacing a completely running car with low milage ? where do you find money guys ?
you say your wife hardly drives.. So what is the point spending more money on a car just so it looks pretty on your drive.
HarryC26 totally agree. Ludicrous. Especially if she curbs the wheels etc.
1:42 somebody didn’t read the instruction manual. With the proximity key you still need to press the small black button on the door handle
Were you really expecting rear air vents in a sub compact car?

+Ben Haynes first I'd like to appreciate how you actually reply to your viewers even if it takes a while, and I see your point
In more than 10 years my Mazda 2 rear seats have never been used 😂😂😂😂 Only my partner used passenger seat for a few time.....
Prefer the old '2' from all angles. I'd have it in that rather fetching green they did.
I agree the old 2 has nicer lines, I always liked the sport spec one.
I thought I was the only one who thought the old one looked better
I like the new one better as it's totally Mazda made. The previous one shares the same platform with the Fiesta and effectively I see more Ford than Mazda in Its design
@@alessandrovisconi1079 Fair enough, and then there's the 2 Hybrid which is, hilariously, a rebadged Yaris

My 2011 is still fine. It's an econobox with no problems.

I think the new ones have problems not the old ones
I don't think really you should need parking aids on a small car. I have a 2018 2 and the brakes still need improving.
The reviewer mentions "brakes with foreplay" in the second generation Mazda 2.
Should be a hit with the target market then!

Where do we insert the key manually inside the new mazda neo if the key battery died.
The neo doesn’t come with a touch screen but the Maxx and Genki do
This dude hates the Mazda2. Best little car I've owned. My 2014 manual transmission is super Fun to drive, zippy and a wonder with MPGs.
