When you catch the mew at level 1, make sure you don't have a full team of 6 already. The mew will get transferred automatically to the pc. When you try to take it out, your game will crash.
I think what he meant by that was, if you have seen people glitch to get Mew, this is probably the way you've seen it, meaning this is the most common way.

One thing not noted (I'm not sure if someone has said this already), but still very important, is that before you set up the glitch make sure you have a space open in your party for mew. If he goes into the pc you won't be able to get him out. I had to restart my game because of this. Also, since I had some trouble with this, to catch abra in pokemon yellow you need to defeat the trainers on the way to bill's house, help bill, then go back the cerulean city. When you get back, the officer that was blocking the door to a house will have moved. Go through the house into the back yard and fight the team rocket grunt there. After that, walk down far enough and you reach an area with 3 paths. Take the middle one to reach a patch of grass that has abra in it. I got one on my first try. Hope this helps!
if you can find an alternative font that's essentially the same as your current one, but the 0's and 8's are more distinct, then i think no one is going to be bothered. also, you could make the 0 appear different from an 8 by skewing the line in the centre 0000 0 0 0 00 0 0 0 0 0 0 00 0 0 0 0000

The way I used to always catch mew ( though this would be later in the game ) is to go up to the old man on route 8 before the underground path. Once he sees you immediately press start and fly to Cerulean City. The game will still think you're in a battle with the old man. Make you way up to route 25 and battle the boy with the slowpoke. You then defeat him and fly to Lavender Town. Once you walk into route 8 you'll encounter Mew. Luckily I hadn't fought the trainer with the slowpoke on route 25 or I would have had to start my game over as a kid.

Given how many corners the developers had to cut to get the game working, it's seriously surprising how most people playing the game normally aren't gonna encounter any glitches. Well, except for the 1/256 chance of a 100% accuracy move and the Masterball not working. And crits ignoring any and all stat modifiers, making crits sometimes deal less damage than a normal attack. And enemy Pokémon using moves of a "Super Effective" type that do no damage. The latter is also the reason why that Shellder only used Withdraw. Yes, it knows Tackle, but Withdraw is Water type, so the game thinks that that move is super effective against Charmander.

Y'see, they just generate a random byte and compare it with a number calculated from the ball's and the Pokémon's catch rate and so on. But due to some programmer not really paying attention, they missed a number. A byte can be any number between 0 and 255. It just so happened that rolling a 0 would mean that the attack/ball always missed, even with attacks or balls that are _supposed_ to always hit.
Fun fact. You say when your catching mew "I guess that takes it down to acceptable hp" or something. The game doesn't recognize lower than 33% hp. So you had it at the lowest it would go.
@@Xani13 Most likely just Gen 1. Gen 1 had a lot of quirks. Like psy type was way too strong accidentally. Ghost types couldn't be hit by any physical move at all. And great balls had the highest catch rate.

This. It also helps to know how a GB Game's save battery works. Because the game is so large (at the time lol), they had to do overlaps with the code, causing it so specific functions could cause events that just to happen to have similar code catalysts. Made up example to show what I mean: Say the Hall of Fame exists at the spot "2116,805" on the map (coordinates, you walk one step = 1 coordinate) You follow some specific instructions, say like using a Super Repel (We'll pretend that the item's 'item ID number' is 805), while having 4 Pokemon in your party (Again, pretending that somehow the Pokemon ID numbers add up to 2116). Then, execute this by somehow turning those 2 numbers into coordinates, maybe by using Fly (teleports you from one set of coordinates to another) and doing something else that overlaps those numbers onto coordinates in the game rather than representing ID Numbers. This will somehow make it so that you "Fly" to the coordinates represented by those ID Numbers (ie, "2116,805"). It's obviously wayyy more complicated than that, but maybe this example can help show you how those people find these kinds of bugs. There are probably a shit ton of these bugs, but very few are even worth mentioning, let alone those that don't just crash the game.

Some of the mechanics for the first glitch are pretty interesting, one of them being that when you go down to face the trainer, there is one frame just before the battle starts, where he is facing south, as all trainers are coded to do, then he faces north to initiate a battle. In other words, you only have the one frame before he turns round and sees you to teleport.
Since this works on the 3DS version, does that mean you can farm Mews to transfer? I haven't gotten to play that version yet, but say you catch the mew, transfer it, then start your game over to rinse and repeat?

Apparently Mew was created and snuck into the game only a couple weeks before the final development. When Nintendo found out about it that's when they decided to promote Mew as a special event only pokémon.

Noah Bass go past the gym and go through the house to bills house, than go south before you go to saffron, I think it's saffron. you can also encounter the youngster and defeat his slowpoke. I managed to glitch 2 Mews during one of my play throughs I got them both before my second badge.

Although I cannot possibly get Mew because I have already fought the trainer in the Gym and the boy on route 25, if I try to get any level 100 pokemon using this glitch it does not work. Once I teleport to the pokecenter I can no longer interact with anything or open my menu. On top of that, when I go to the bridge, I don't get an encounter. Ever. Does anyone know the solution?
When you do that trick with a trainer, you can't open the start menu anymore. There are two ways around this. One is to battle a trainer. The other is to switch boxes in the PC, causing your game to save, then reset the game. Either way, your start menu will work again. If you battled a trainer: when you return to the screen you warped from, a pokemon will appear determined by the special stat of the last pokemon you faced, trainer or wild. If you switched boxes and reset: you have to either battle a trainer or talk to the guy in Pewter City who walks you to the museum. After this, same thing where the pokemon appearing is determined by the special stat of the last one you faced. Also, even if those 2 trainers are defeated, you can still get Mew. All you have to do is have that final faced pokemon have a special stat of 21. There are two ways to find one: 1: in the wild 2: Get a special stat 21 pokemon of your own, fight a Ditto (found east of Fuchsia in RB, Pokemon Mansion on Cinnabar in Y), let it transform, then defeat it (I think you can run too after it transforms)
At nugget bridge the guy gives you the nugget before the battle so if you lose the battle and come back he gives you another nugget and repeating this can give you infinite nuggets. This works in all games including the remakes
you can also catch a bellsprout in the same area and it learns wrap at lvl 13 so you can trap the abra. much easier and will probably save you a lot of time.
I got Mew to appear first try on my newly bought Poke'mon Blue on the Virtual Console, and my game freezes when I try to take it out of the PC. WHAT WENT WRONG?
No, according to Glitch City the only Pokemon that work are 3rd stage Pokemon (Gengar, Nidoking, Nidoqueen etc, excluding Beedrill / Butterfree) plus Mew. You could get a level 7 Gyarados / Arcanine though which would still be neat.
Scykoh Isn't there another trainer to help you in the glitch to get Mew? Like the trainer on the route to the right of Pewter City, and it's the kid that likes shorts? That's how I got mine, and I didn't have to use Growl six times. :/
***** Hypothetically any trainer you can get to see you while you feint or teleport / fly / escape rope, etc. away will be able to activate this glitch. If there's one that'll do that in Route 3 I missed it, and if that's the case the 2nd method shown in this video could work on Blue / Red using that trainer. I spent 10-20 hours trying lots of stuff with this glitch, but there's still so many possibilities that it wouldn't be surprising if I missed something.

More than likely...I haven't done the glitch yet but I'm pretty sure it should work
Nope. The only way to transfer the Mew is to do another glitch to change Mew's OT to GameFreak. GF saw ahead on this one.

Cosmic Jedman it's a massive glitch that takes a long time to set up and in the end if you don't do it right it will delete your save file but there's a video tutorial on TH-cam

Wtf how does this work? Why is there even a Mew in the game data at all? Was it really just hidden there for someone to eventually find? O_o
This is fucking mind blowing because back in grade school, everyone always talked about there being a Mew somewhere and I never believed them...
Apparently Mew was created and snuck into the game only a couple weeks before the final development. When Nintendo found out about it that's when they decided to promote Mew as a special event only pokémon.

go past the gym and go through the house to bills house, than go south before you go to saffron, I think it's saffron. you can also encounter the youngster and defeat his slowpoke. I managed to glitch 2 Mews during one of my play throughs I got them both before my second badge.

Gamefreak musthave messed something up.
Although I cannot possibly get Mew because I have already fought the trainer in the Gym and the boy on route 25, if I try to get any level 100 pokemon using this glitch it does not work. Once I teleport to the pokecenter I can no longer interact with anything or open my menu. On top of that, when I go to the bridge, I don't get an encounter. Ever. Does anyone know the solution?
Try walking to bills house. You might be able to get the encounter close to where all the trainers are there.

When you do that trick with a trainer, you can't open the start menu anymore. There are two ways around this. One is to battle a trainer. The other is to switch boxes in the PC, causing your game to save, then reset the game. Either way, your start menu will work again.
If you battled a trainer: when you return to the screen you warped from, a pokemon will appear determined by the special stat of the last pokemon you faced, trainer or wild.
If you switched boxes and reset: you have to either battle a trainer or talk to the guy in Pewter City who walks you to the museum. After this, same thing where the pokemon appearing is determined by the special stat of the last one you faced.
Also, even if those 2 trainers are defeated, you can still get Mew. All you have to do is have that final faced pokemon have a special stat of 21. There are two ways to find one:
1: in the wild
2: Get a special stat 21 pokemon of your own, fight a Ditto (found east of Fuchsia in RB, Pokemon Mansion on Cinnabar in Y), let it transform, then defeat it (I think you can run too after it transforms)

At nugget bridge the guy gives you the nugget before the battle so if you lose the battle and come back he gives you another nugget and repeating this can give you infinite nuggets. This works in all games including the remakes

Can you do the level 1 to 100 glitch with the Arcanine and Gyarados you also found?
No, according to Glitch City the only Pokemon that work are 3rd stage Pokemon (Gengar, Nidoking, Nidoqueen etc, excluding Beedrill / Butterfree) plus Mew. You could get a level 7 Gyarados / Arcanine though which would still be neat.

Scykoh Isn't there another trainer to help you in the glitch to get Mew? Like the trainer on the route to the right of Pewter City, and it's the kid that likes shorts? That's how I got mine, and I didn't have to use Growl six times. :/

***** Hypothetically any trainer you can get to see you while you feint or teleport / fly / escape rope, etc. away will be able to activate this glitch. If there's one that'll do that in Route 3 I missed it, and if that's the case the 2nd method shown in this video could work on Blue / Red using that trainer. I spent 10-20 hours trying lots of stuff with this glitch, but there's still so many possibilities that it wouldn't be surprising if I missed something.
