Absolutely beautiful car. I was lucky enough to find a low milage 98 v6 4runner with factory locking rear diffs here in the states and it's been modified very similarly to yours! 1st-3rd gen hilux surfs/4runners have to be the some of the most classic suv designs.
I had a 2.4L & then a 3.0L. Absolutely loved both. Sold the 3.0L back in 06 and have never stopped wanting another, I can't stop watching YT vids with them in!
I wish we had diesels for our "4runner" over here! The second gen like yours is a beast but the v6 NA engine it comes with in the states is a pile of junk. Lots of guys take engines from 3rd gen 4runners and swap them to their 2nd gen to get an engine in their rig that can move the truck on and off-road. Nice driving by the way! Looks like a great trip.
Nice Hilux Surf. I have a 3.0L surf and I have the same bull bar as yours but I’m having trouble finding the side bars that you have. What’s the part # and which size you got for your surf? SC/DC/CC?
I reckon if those autos were worked on a little you could actually get some pretty good response out of them esspecially with a different torque converter
He less then landcruiser 80/100 but his mass and great 4wd he for me best off-road car.When i be kid at father be surf 130,and he my first car.I love it
It looks to be an SSR-X surf mesning its got an auto box with the 3.0 tbh the autos are way better for power when you got heaps of it if you build them a little but there are some bits where the auto is the only thing thats letting the car down, if he had a manual he could jump it up some places but the G52 that would usually be in them would be catus after a while Also if you wanna make power out of a 2.8, create engine or you build the engine by getting either stock pistons (the stock pistons can take quite a bit) or you get those stock pistons ceramic coated and the piston walls coated in a different material i forget what it is but it slides really good on ceramic coated surfaces, also ceramic coated bores Then get the full crank assembly balanced apparently theyre more out than a TD42 like horrendously out sometimes After you have obtained the create engine or your built beauty you then choose a turbo that is efficient, either TD04 from HDautomotive or holset either HE221w or what im going with for now a HE211w bit smaller but im not going past 28-30psi Remember lean is good, the pumps you use on a 2.8 are like 60cc, then go 22/60 so 22×60 because 60 is the 1 part fuel and see how many litres of air you get If you build a pump to go 250cc each pump your gonna need 60psi and people do that esspecially when you build the engine like i was talking about Essentially stock motor thats been looked after or a create engine with a decent to good turbo and a boosted injector pump and better nozzles for your injectors= 10psi(if your a pussy and want your turbo to be lazy) to 30 maybe 40psi if you wanna push things Built motor with built pump compound set up which people do look it up on the forums, theres a bloke rn building a comp car not a hilux but using the 2.8 platform and hes compounded it and got it in a rock crawling rig going up against v8s and shit like that apparently he goes pretty decent and keeps up
Can anyone tell me where he got the brush bars from? Cause have the exact same bull bar and want to make the beast look phat and protect the body a bit more,
hey darcy, i modified those factory ARB brush bars that were originally for the solid axle 4 runner to suit the surf, 2 additional bends and 2 cuts and welds. The rockslides and the brush bars are still one piece.
from what i hear they are great would reccomend the 1kz engine instead of this though thats what i am getting and there indestructible now just have to find one in the budget.

Hey Dave, it's as simple as deleting all mufflers from even a standard exhaust system and you'll get that nice whistle!

SkullCrusher 762 hey mate just a lift, front and rear e lockers and all the camping stuff like draws, bars lights etc.
How reliable have you found the e lockers to be. Also what brand? With the lift just two inch suspension? I too have a 90’ surf 2 door.
I could've bought a V8 surf that only needed front windscreen and the passenger door window replaced for $3k and I didn't ☹️
