- A man is suing an Orange County car dealership after they provided him a loaner car, then reported that car stolen, leading to his apprehension at gunpoint in Laguna Niguel.

Oops. That actually works? At a minimum, they filed a false police report. Lost paperwork or not.
How is paperwork misplaced in 2024? Am I taking it too literally? Was it actually a file deleted on whatever system they use?
If you have never worked in a dealership before, all of their systems are ancient with the dot-matrix printout and carbon copy paperwork. So, in this case, it was literally misplaced in the wrong manila folder or accidentally trashed ala basura-ed.

Clearly, regardless of how cheap they are regarding printers, this would be on computer. Just hitting delete wouldn't do it. "Are you sure?" Someone did this deliberately, and they will go to jail.
Being in a reported stolen vehicle is one thing, but one that’s labeled ‘armed and dangerous’ requires certain parameters to be met, such as a vehicle taken during a carjacking. Either law enforcement incorrectly categorized the vehicle as armed and dangerous, or the dealer made additional incorrect statements.
What I don't get if it was just car theft and no evidence of owner having access to weapons- why all the weapons drawn on the stop?
All those weapons makes a lethal accident more likely. When you are told to raise your hands, that will thin out your waist and could cause one's pants to start drooping falling. That triggers a reflex response to hold your pants, but to a nervous cop, it looks like you are reaching for a weapon and they will shoot. This has happened in the past with tragic results.
I'm sure this will be settled out of court. If this lawsuit reaches the courtroom, what kind of verdict and award would a jury render? Most likely $$$

what does him being black have anything to do with it. Dealership said it was stolen, cops found it. Dealership was wrong. Cops just did their jobs, as the should do regardless of if he's black or white, eventually they heard the guy out and decided the dealership was indeed wrong. Case solved. Good for them.
1st off, it’s Orange County Sheriff’s, not PD. 2nd, what was “keystone cop” like about what the deputies did? It was a felony stop being conducted by a task force, some of which were working in plain clothes. And 3rd, what difference does it make that the driver happened to be black? It sounds to me like you simply do not like the police.
@@aq043 1st off Keystone cops as in the way they approached the guy an unarmed singular person was almost comical yet pathetic and overkill. 2nd it was an "alleged" felony stop we are all innocent until proven guilty. 3rd, just because i critique or give my opinion about something does not imply dislike or have lack respect. oh and last i checked, OC Sheriff's dept is part of OC PD.
They didn't know anything. This was a standard felony stop. The police did nothing wrong here.

That's awful, I saw real car thief running around all over L.A. 4-5 time in a week, and they are treated way better then this guy, I saw car thief ditched a car and walking like nothing happened the cop ran after them then tackled them down, but they treated this guy way worst then those real thug.

What a beautiful couple. As a mixed black woman, business owner and highly educated with earned JD and MBA degrees, prejudice, (prejudging me in a negative light) has been what I have encountered all my life.
When I was younger in Thousand Oaks California, a perspective employer said he could not hire me because he needed someone dependable and I would have children.
Well, I am almost 55 and I have never been pregnant in my life; neither married nor gay. I have dedicated my life to serving my staff and residents. Many women of color are dependable and do not sleep around.
That's a ishtty deal. Life is hard enough as it is to get through, without having an extra burden. Hope you have found fulfillment in your career, and peace in your life. You have my respect! (Middle aged white guy here)

yea, let's not jump to conclusions and hear the other side. Possible they refused to return the loaner car when requested. Why else would the dealer call the wife that morning and say her husband is going to be arrested? If they lost the paperwork they wouldn't know who had the car.
The dealer probably figured who had the car after they reported it stolen.
Sue them! Go pick up your car, done or not, leave that loaner car sitting right where it is. Let the dealership come and get it! NO excuse for this. This could have gone horribly wrong!

youre kidding me right? thats what they do, they arent mind readers knowing if the felon is "friendly" or dangerous. one of our cars got stolen and even the police warned us if we found it to not touch it or else if a cop see's it they will be pulling the car over guns drawn. felons are dangerous.

That is terrible. Cops overdoing it. Give the man some decency. Also, why is there such a strict policy when pulling him over if he does not appear armed? It is crazy the levels they go to to get him to subdue.I really hope this gets the cops in trouble as well, because they could do something serious to a person. That attorney needs to build, obtain good proof that the cops are at fault too. Bad stuff happening because of misplaced paperwork and hush hush habits. They need to fight it stronger.
Actually it’s a felony stop and they followed procedure in dealing with a stolen vehicle. The Kia dealership is at fault not the cops.

he got pulled over because of a bad car dealership not the color of his skin. It is a coincidence he is black. It's completely random that it was his paperwork that got lost. the police didn't know who stole the car when they pulled it over.
