FRANCE 24 looks at how the EU is working with non-EU countries on developing their agricultural sectors. Albania gained EU accession status in 2014. It already receives a small amount of funds and advice from the EU in how it can change its farming structures. In a country where the post-Communist divide-up of land left the average size of farms at less than two hectares, we look at the ways it can grow for a prosperous future.
Locals insist that whatever happens, they will protect the native species of plants and animals and focus on niche markets.

Albania has to be smart and avoid their agriculture to become industrial . It is better to maintain this structure en try to get labels and protection of special local products by labeling. Alma Cupi has a very good idea of how it should become in favor of the Albanian people and not in favor of the politicians of Bussels.

It all depends on the government, if it will invest in agriculture, for small farms to succeed.

2025 looks to be the year when the EU will expand. Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Albania. Maybe Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo as well. The future of the EU looks bright so long as the populist movements are dealt with.

@Sigmund Falkner I can see potential for Albania and Montenegro to become popular tourist destinations possibly Bosnia and Herzegovina as well. As for the rest they could develop slowly into nice places to live. The Western Balkans are not going to be the leaders of Europe but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be given a chance to develop

Great video and quite impressive description of my country's current agricultural situation. Before 1990 we were basically eating foods, fruits and veggies that were grown organically with seeds and crops that were not GMO's although, some chemicals were used. After 1990 sadly a lot of GMO's inundated my country and you can taste them almost everywhere now. I was there this past summer and sadly I could not find the taste and flavor that I crave most. Incredibly, even ancient figs in June were weird. I was lucky enough to eat some original ones from a farmer from Krrabe. If I had the chance to meet EU's heads of states I'd tell them to visit my country hop on over a donkey (haha) and go up a mountain (where cars, bicycles, etc cannot go) where the real stuff still exists and taste the food like never before. Instead of Albania abiding by EU's agricultural standards, EU should abide by Albania's high peak mountains agricultural standards and the world must follow and the world will be a much better place.

Yes. I'm in Canada, and have had a small farm for over 30 years- people do not know what real food tastes like anymore. Even here, we have much organic, but it's still factory organic, and we import much 'organic' from Mexico.

    • @albusha5150

@@Chahlie I highly recommend you visit my country if possible and if Canada allows you, get some ancient crops in high mountains villages in my country and bring them to your farm. You will be happy you did. Remember you can find them in villagers houses.
