How to attract kingfishers | Wildlife Photography

- I set out to try a new approach to kingfisher photography that gives you more control over the location of the shoot, the direction of shooting relative to the position of the sun, the background, etc., and that is to set out a new branch for the kingfishers and see if they will start using it.

Wow! That was awesome! Great idea and great shots! Thanks for the set up ideas!
You are most welcome! Cheers, Patrik
Great video Patrik, one tip if I may. Try and get a horiztonal branch for a Kingfisher as they like to smack their prey dead on it.
Thank you. You are completely right. I noticed that it couldn't hit the last crab into the branch, and so it took off to a nearby tree to finish it there. Thanks for the tip!
Patrik

nice work
Thank you 😊
Very nice Patrik. It is great to learn something new - I have only ever seen Kingfishers take fish. Somehow it didn't occur to me that in brackish waters they'd take crabs too. Obviously they have a wider prey than I though. Once in France I hid myself in full sight in the water of a stream. With just my head poking out and the fish nibbling at my body a kingfisher came within 60cm of me and fished round my legs. A most magical moment. Thank you for making this - I really enjoyed it.
Glad you enjoyed it. Yes that was a first for me as well. I was surprised when it cought the crab, but of course it makes sense as the location is perfect for that.
That's a really interesting story. A moment to remember.
Cheers,
Patrik
AWESOME 👏🏻!!! Your work is incredible!! The equipment that you use captures the colors of nature so beautifully!! That was such a Beautiful kingfisher too. I absolutely love how you also capture the amazing sounds of nature in different settings. It sounds like a beautiful symphony. Thank you 🙏🏻 for sharing your work with us all! 💜
Thank you for the kind words! Yes the colors are beautiful, but all the credit goes to the nature 😊 the camera just captured what was there - in this case a really stunning bird. The ambience there was something I rarely experience. When I got to the location for the first time I was shocked at how many birds were making their calls and it created such a pleasant atmosphere. Luckily the traffic noise from the distance didn't affect it too much.
Patrik
@@PatrikInNature you’re welcome and I was shocked at how many bird species you were able to capture in one location. It must have been a healthy ecosystem there. I was so distracted by the birds that I never heard any traffic sounds! Great work!!
Very nice!
Thanks!
Patrik
Some awesome encounters and a really nice video!
Thank you very much!
amazing video and photos❤
Thank you 😊
Wow amazing vedio ang ganda talaga saan yon
Thank you :)
Incredible footage and photos! How did you place the branch? Just made a little hole and pushed it down to bury it? Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! In this case it was pretty easy because the ground was a very soft mud and so I just pushed it down hard and it stayed in place. If the ground was harder, I would first try to make a hole like you suggested.
Cheers,
Patrik
@@PatrikInNature That's great, thanks for sharing, I'll have to give it a try and see how it goes! :) Thanks for taking the time to answer!
You are welcome. Good luck! I hope it works for you as well :)
vad är de för sot mikrofån du har vad heter den
I'm sorry if I translated your comment wrong, but if you are asking me about which microphone I use, all the gear is listed under the video in the description. For vlogging I use the Rode and for ambience in this case I used the Audio Technica.
Patrik
Hi guy, where are you?
If you are asking for a location where this video was shot... it was made on the coastline between Slovenia and Croatia.
Cheers, Patrik
@@PatrikInNature yes the site of your shots. Thanks
Great, no problem :)
what kind of backpack are you using? loving the videos.
I am using two backpacks. One is a very old Tamrac backpack that I bought about 10 years ago, and the newer one is the Manfrotto PRO Light Backloader (I believe it's the M size). I use them interchangeably because I much prefer the Tamrac for longer hikes and heavier gear, while the Manfrotto allows for better gear organisation.
I hope this helps. If you have any other questions, please ask.
Cheers, Patrik
