Dear Amy and Matt, Congratulations on your splendid decision to circumnavigate England aboard Florence! Swapping polar bears for the delightful unpredictability of British weather? Now that's a choice worthy of the highest commendation. After all, why freeze in the Arctic when you can experience the charmingly erratic conditions of the English coast? Hats off to our very aerodyte English men above Bil who sure put many of your followers same feelings Into such wonderful words. One question, I immediately noticed there were no,different materials as a protective sun etc cover on either roller reefing headsail. Will you please explain for us? As always, FWCS fair winds.... ⛵️
Rolly Tasker has been very good for Florence. They look very nice and getting that slot effect with your Genoa and jib is a real bonus that you will find very helpful. The B&G stuff seems to be working well for you as well and I think the circumnavigation of the UK will be epic. You two look so happy. Nice to see you enjoying sailing again.
Gosh....Florence is beautiful I've always thought so even when she came home a little tattered! She has taken good care of you and deserved all the wonderful upgrades...well done all round!
@@giork2828 lol. This is funny. I can't remember the last time I used "gosh". WTF got in to me ? I have a pretty foul mouth usually...haha , no not yet they haven't but concerned!
Florence built by fine Norfolk craftsmen in Wroxham. hence the gel coat lasting the life of the hull in perfect condition , a little bit bias as I am a man of Norfolk living not far from where she was built, Have a wonderful sail round the good old British Isles .
Yes, that's EXACTLY WHAT I THOUGHT YOU SHOULD DO (but I didn't like to say anything negative). 1) I could see you you've been working harder on land than at sea, all winter. 2) you haven't been used to northern winters for years 3) so, you need a rest and a relaxing easy trip to test out the boat. 4) I have been in the Artic, and yes you need more time to prepare, especially if you're going across the straight to northern Quebec province. 5) I think your sail round Britain will produce a lot more interest to your viewers, than they bargain for, especially if you pull in and explore selected places. Off we go.!!!!!!!!
Another lovely video. I personally really hope you to not lose the ethnographic curiosity of what has made your channel so great. The UK may feel familiar to you, but to many it's still a place of wonder. We all discovered so many places and cultures during your world trip, and this could be a chance to (re)discover the wonders of the UK and its culture and quirks. The history and importance of the white cliffs of dover for example, and we can't think of the Ramsgate area without thinking of those Turner paintings. Meanwhile, I really think Amy would enjoy reading 'Sightlines' by the Scottish poetess and writer, Kathleen Jamie. I think it would resonate a lot with this journey (and I encourage anyone else reading this to delve into it too)
Thats nice to do the coastal trip around the UK-Ireland. Should be interesting for many viewers. But are you ready to dodge the traffic and windmills ? I think that will be most challenging for you, looking forward to follow your progress, cheers From Sechelt, BC, Canada.
Hopefully if you decide on the Irish Sea route, you can visit the worlds greatest people moving port of all time - Liverpool. Then hopefully sail between Anglesey and the mainland, down the famous Menai Strait. Nelson once said "if you can sail the Menai Strait, you can sail anywhere in the world". Ps:I live just outside Beaumaris, so maybe a little biased!
The change of plan came as no surprise bearing in mind the late start..I was wondering what you might have chosen as an alternative.. Thought it might be the Baltic.. Great to have you back ! :>)
Fantastic to see you both out and on another voyage, and what better than doing an around-the-British-Isles trip as a shakedown to next years arctic challenge? I'm looking forward to seeing every episode that you put out on this season's trip, cheers! PS: Your filming skills have been honed over the years to become truly epic. You could start an evergreen 'How To Create Amazing Short Films' course, and I'd be the first to sign up. Amongst other things I'd love to learn, is how you launch and retrieve the drone while rocking along in full sail! lol I've always thought of rigging up a 'drone catching net' (but where, on a cluttered monohull?) and have the drone fly right into it, but I'm sure you have a more elegant technique.
After 35 years as an ex-pat I felt quite nostalgic for the old country as you pulled out of Portsmouth with the brand new red ensign fluttering to uplifting music .. well done as always on a superb video .. Florence is looking gorgeous !
As experienced ‘sea dogs’ you should consider taking on something even more challenging. I am talking south of the roaring forties - furious fifties and maybe below. Cape Horn, Falklands (UK), South Georgia (UK), South Sandwich (UK)..etc. We touched Falklands last year as part of a South America cruise and when we were in Stanley (Falklands) I thought I was in London. Little London in a remote part of the world !
Hi,Florence and yourselves look great,i enjoyed the fit out well done to you both, but now it is back to real sailing again and it is good that you will be more or less in the position to say”let’s pull in for the night and have a cup of tea”. I am really looking forward to travelling along with you on your new venture.Cheers,Roly🇬🇧.
The map graphics and overall production of this content is excellent. It is 'Main Feature' level. You have raised the bar significantly. Two head sails too! Nice mod.
Welcome back! We are looking forward to going around the UK with you, can't wait to see your adventures again. Florence looks as beautiful as ever. Big hugs to you all. Chris and Noreen - Durban.South Africa.
Looking forward to seeing the country of my birth. I was born in Essex in 1962 and migrated to Australia in 1971 two days after my 9th birthday, I have never been back, guessing the place has changed since I was there last😊. Glad you decided to pull into Lowestoft my Dad was based there for a while on minesweeper trawlers during WW2 using Butlins holiday camp as a barracks. Cheers
Catching up with you after a break Florence looks amazing sailing as a cutter :-)! It's a testimony to your workmanship and seamanship that the shakedown sail was so uneventful!
We are so pleased you are back sailing, especially sailing around the UK & Ireland. We are in North Wales & would luv to show you some hospitality or if we could help in any way if needed. So excited to see your journey & your adventures.Luv T&C
Well I found your videos today on your journey of the long refit, I have watched the whole series on the refit in one sitting, you are both an inspiration and show what bloody hard work can achieve, I know nothing about sailing but wish you both the very very best wishes on your new journey, very well done both of you, your such a good team. 👏👏👏
Hey guys! So many great things to say about this vid...as usual. First is, super stoked for how the refit has worked out for you. It looks like a very good "job well done"! Your cinematography is as usual quite interesting, with great subject matter B-roll, and clear, well thought out arrangement/editing. But mostly, I'm really stoked for your change of plans! I think it's going to be very cool to cruise with you guys around the British Isles. I'm sure the Arctic will be great too, but for me I think this will be more moving. Thanks
I've actually been rewatching old episodes sequentially from before I came across your channel. SUPERB repository of useful knowledge. I particularly appreciate the budgeting, preventative maintenance and planning top tips one can glean from your videos. I had a "trust fund" similar to the one you describe having in that it was an ephemeral one derived from memories of special places and austere environments that took effort and care to reach, rather than dynastic financial wealth. I grew up in the north cascades and my first job was as a mule packer and hunter's guide, I got to see a kaleidoscope of landscapes while running pack strings, I didn't even realize how little I was being paid til I started tending bar and doing woodworking and made "real" money. The notion of a "vacation" has never entered my thinking.
Sailing round the uk is challenging but a great adventure particularly when you are up beyond the Farne islands. I did it in 2016 most of it single handed. Have fun.
Talk about a beam reach! You two are grinning ear to ear as beautiful Florence skirts the waves again. I look fwd to the remote Scotland locations and puffins!
This change of plans is equally exciting, & in that it gives you a great chance to really test all the new bits in changing conditions/ weather while enjoying the homeland that you haven't seen it seems such a Win Win. Thanks always for sharing your unique journeys made only that much more splendid through your artistic Interpretations.
Simply beautiful sail in very busy waters! Your change of plans is a good one as the arctic has to be timed out to maximize the shorter sailing season. Florence just looks rejuvinated!
I wish that I had known you were visiting Whitby. Having followed you and Florence around the world, I would have driven out from York to say Hi. Your weekly post is a highlight of my week.
Hi Guys, we too where forced into Lowestoft that day!, (were the Moody with the purple charity banners as you came in), we were sailing clockwise but had had wind on our nose & lumpy seas right from us embarking from Whitby for Weston Park Cancer Charity. We hit huge waves & winds as we rounded the Isle of White. They stopped 80% of boats doing the round the Isle race but we where all ready in it trying to get into Cowes for safety having turned round to go down the Solent. I could go on but, I'll hopefully enjoy your journey & hope you have the weather that we where suppose to have lol. Regards Graham.
Doesn't seem like 8 months ago since we waved you into Port Solent! Well done 👏 🎉 I remember your faces at HYC when things were not going so well on the refit, Congratulations you've done it, guts and determination did it😂😂
So refreshing to see proper sailors back at sea - and as someone who was born in Warsash, grew up in Lymington, sailed Cadets at Keyhavem, Scows in Lymington and Flying Dutchman at Hamble, Lee and HISC, the Solent connection warms my heart. I still have all the Solent racing marks in my head
Matt and Amy just marathon watched all your videos. Absolutely loved them ❤️ You are a pair of legends and great to see you weren't scared by the Horn as most are ! Up there with the best sailing videos ive seen !
Your joy is so infectious!!! Glad I'll be out on the water tomorrow ... sailing round my little bit of the British coast. You could sail round and round these Islands and still be having new experiences all the time. This really is a cruising paradise.
So how do you like the improvements to Florence? Besides the sails is there anything that really stands out? And has everything worked, or is there more tweaking to be done to her? Is there anything that you wish you did now, but didn't get to it? Great to have you back on the go!
I’m in Oz and loved the view of the White Cliffs from the sea . You have a fabulous sailing channel and I really enjoy being part of your travels. Your photography is wonderful, narratives are quick and to the point and blended splendidly into the story. My only disappointment is you never did much around Oz, especially the Kimberley. Maybe another day. Looking forward to being taken around the UK.
So good to see you both and Florence back on the water. I cannot wait for your voyage around these islands. There is so much to see and I hope you will stop off and give us some ‘home tours’ from a distance. Do stop off if you can in Tongue by Lairg (the home of a late friend). And a few extras if I may; if you have diving equipment do look at the Shiants. and also the west (Atlantic) side of Harris and Taronsay. All beautiful beyond words. You may also like the many gin distilleries (yes gin!). Btw loved the sound track about five minutes in. This is the same one you used on some of the main episodes in the lumpy weather’ coming back across the Atlantic which in my view deserved an award.
I live in Shetland - husband is currently on his yacht for a 2-day movement to a new pier. If you get here by July you’ll see puffins. August most are gone. :)
There is always a profound joy that comes with upgrading your boat that I don't think people who have never experienced it can ever understand. Florence is looking tip-top, I will be looking forward to seeing where the adventure takes you all.
Nice parallel slot on those foresails! Don't feel badly about the Arctic delay. I could use the extra time to get a warmer parka to sit there and watch it! The new B&G set up looks really nice! Very easy to read! Florence has always looked good, but with your terrific high resolution video now, it looks even better!
Glad you are off sailing again after the refit! Florence looks so spiffy! Looking forward to the videos of your circumnavigation of the UK. Thanks for sharing.
My grandfather emigrated from the Shetlands many years ago to Cape Town where I live. It'll be great to see the islands if you stop off there. One of the reasons I love small boat sailing is it's so eco friendly. I heard a statistic the other day that 100 whales wash up on the shores of the UK every year now. I wonder if it's not to do with all those windfarms? They seem like a good idea for us but not for marine life. Looking forward to seeing the puffins!🐧
All the best you two, I love your work, I am not a sailor, I live in the Canadian Rockies and climb as much as I can, so watching you guys sail around the globe and everywhere else has been real fun. Love you show, how you put it together, I don't know what else to say but great job.
I got such joy watching Florence sail. It welled up in me especially with the shots from the bow. That is my happy place. The perpetual surge forward as the power of the wind drives you on. Wonderful. Thank you. It’s winter here and my boat is waiting for the new season on her mooring.
Impressive ❤, very impressive. She even appears to look faster on the water, though probably not? Your plans given for all you do are so prudent to the moment. Love listening to your expectations and enjoyed the view of the refit, like a new boat, kinda. Looking forward to a trip around the home waters. Stay safe. 🥂cheers
Hi from New Zealand guys WOW Florence looks nothing short of spectacular, so so good to see you back on the water and so relaxed and looking forward to your vlogs again
SO many beautiful places to explore sailing around the British Isles. The Outer Hebrides are stunning and St Kilda absolutely ethereal, plus all the other Western Isles, but don't miss the Northern Isles, including the Orkneys (Sanday has beaches that look like the Caribbean) and Fair Isle and the Isles of Scilly. The Irish coast is also amazing. You're going to need much longer!
Must say you both appear rejuvenated after your stint on land. The boat looks a picture and the substantial upgrades sees Florence restored to her best. TBH I had some reservations about how appealing a journey to the Arctic would be from a viewers perspective. Not a destination I personally would wish to experience. BUT a circumnavigation of the British Isles!!!!! Now that definitely ticks all the boxes. As someone much invested in the Viking history in Britain I will be very interested in any nautical 'backgrounding' you may wish to offer up re some of the earliest ultimate seafarers in that part of the world. Much to look forward to and enjoyed.
Yes yes yessss Such a great first video for the fresh season for you guys, your pure contentment shines through! Woop woop! Florence is looking INSANE! You should be super proud. We'd love to discuss the west coast of Scotland over a cuppa with you guys soon!
Have you thought about including the Channel Islands in your round British Isles trip? We have some amazing offshore reefs in the Minquiers and the Ecrehous, the Alderney tidal race…plus we have puffins!
What an amazing job you have both done, we agree there being out on the water is just amazing and relaxing. We are looking for to your up coming trip around the UK, take care and stay safe.
Florence looks gorgeous after all the upgrades. As an 82 year old former sailor, I am personally excited to vicariously sail along with you as you circumnavigate the British Isles. I spent 30 years sailing the coast of Maine and Nova Scotia first on a 40 ft and then a 46 ft Tartan. My 94 yr old sailing partner is still going out of Camden, Me, but I am unable to join him due to long covid. You both are so inspiring, and the video is just beautiful!
Doctors are now using Ivermectin for long COVID treatment, with a lot of success. Hope this helps you get back on the water with your mate.

Fully agree. Great to watch quality videograph.
Thanks for a great video. Glad to see that you're back on the water. Matt that's a good lady, look after her.
Dear Amy and Matt,
Congratulations on your splendid decision to circumnavigate England aboard Florence! Swapping polar bears for the delightful unpredictability of British weather? Now that's a choice worthy of the highest commendation. After all, why freeze in the Arctic when you can experience the charmingly erratic conditions of the English coast?
Your TH-cam channel is a veritable beacon in the vast sea of online content. The quality of your videos is as comforting as a warm cup of tea and as intriguing as an Agatha Christie mystery. You've cultivated a loyal community that eagerly awaits each new video, drawn not just by your maritime exploits but also by the life lessons you subtly impart.
Your knack for turning every storm into an opportunity and every mishap into a fascinating anecdote is a rare gift. You possess the unique ability to narrate your adventures with disarming authenticity and a touch of humour so refined it almost slips by unnoticed - except to those of us who appreciate a good British witticism.

That's a helluva refit. Good work.
I bet you are loving the new roller furler!
Great to see you back out on the water! Scottish highlands and islands are going to be epic!
The set of the two fore sails are just great.
Good for you, I was fortunate enough to sail around the British Isles with my friend on his Westerly Vulcan in 2016, best sailing ever.
Florence is looking lovely Guys, enjoy your sail.
The boat looks fantastic! And as my ancestry is Scottish and Irish, I’m really excited to see this season!
Please don’t change your content.. you are doing fantastic job. Thanks for sharing your journey with us. Be safe and God’s speed.
Impressive ❤, very impressive. She even appears to look faster on the water, though probably not? Your plans given for all you do are so prudent to the moment. Love listening to your expectations and enjoyed the view of the refit, like a new boat, kinda. Looking forward to a trip around the home waters. Stay safe. 🥂cheers
Your boat looks like new. Love the way you plan your work and adventure. Wish you a great journey.
Florence looks ready to go. Great to have you sailing again. 😊
Hi from New Zealand guys WOW Florence looks nothing short of spectacular, so so good to see you back on the water and so relaxed and looking forward to your vlogs again
Florence looks great. Welcome to Norway next year🌞⛵️
Your sailboat is so nice looking! Starting to really like vintage Oyster sailboats.
Great to see you back sailing and hope you manage to sail around Ireland 🇮🇪 ❤
SO many beautiful places to explore sailing around the British Isles. The Outer Hebrides are stunning and St Kilda absolutely ethereal, plus all the other Western Isles, but don't miss the Northern Isles, including the Orkneys (Sanday has beaches that look like the Caribbean) and Fair Isle and the Isles of Scilly. The Irish coast is also amazing. You're going to need much longer!
Congratulations guys, all the work you have done looks awesome, I can live my sailing life through you guys again….. happy sailing
For me it would be interesting to see what “extras” you keep on your boat for emergencies. Thanks for sharing!
Congratulations, back on the move, you both are sporting happy faces, cuffed looks as you cut through the water...cheers
Congratulations to everything you both has achieved on the refit.❤💙🦋👍☺
Have you thought about including the Channel Islands in your round British Isles trip? We have some amazing offshore reefs in the Minquiers and the Ecrehous, the Alderney tidal race…plus we have puffins!
Wow so many happy comments . And mine too .
Fab set up with the staysail and she pulls well eh . Fair winds (and sun etc😀😎)
I visited Rolly Tasker in Thailand. Quite an incredible place they have.
Kudos to you both for making the jump to hyperspace!! Go Florence!!
Bering 75 is so beautiful in the background. Take your time and just enjoy yourselves.
I would strongly recommend Canna in the small isles, puffins, cute cattle and friendly natives, very pleasant vibe
What an amazing job you have both done, we agree there being out on the water is just amazing and relaxing. We are looking for to your up coming trip around the UK, take care and stay safe.
Lovely BRoll in the grey sky over Dover
Cheers
I am so happy to view your first sail in ages, fair winds and smooth seas.
